I was leery about checking in due to all of the negative reviews I read online. It actually wasn't that bad, but depends all on what type of vacation you are expecting. If you just want a decent place, clean rooms with comfy beds, great beach/pool/jacuzzi area in order to soak up some sun and relax, then it's not bad for the price. If you are expecting luxurious accommodations or amenities, then this isn't the place for you! Check in was quick and the staff was friendly. The online pics are pretty accurate, however, because of all of the mirrors, the rooms appear larger online than they actually are. The lobby was very nice but furniture is outdated and it smells like mildew. The rooms were pretty standard but we ended up switching to the other side because of the construction that is going on next door (and YES they do work on the weekends despite what we were told by the front desk). I didn't see many eating in the restaurant. Most ate on the patio facing the pool/ocean. I only ate from the restaurant once and paid $30 for two mimosas and an egg platter (2 eggs, home fries and meat). The pool/jacuzzi/beach area is really nice. The lounge chairs on the pool deck are free, but cost $5 (umbrellas are $10) if you want them on the beach. The beach is literally STEPS away. You can lounge on the pool deck and look at the beautiful ocean right in front of you. The hotel is located in a quiet, condominium/hotel area so there isn't much to do w/in walking distance. Beach Place is not far via cab/car (approximately a $10 cab ride) and is a younger atmosphere that has plenty of restaurants and bars (like Fat Tuesday, etc.) The Riverfront on W. Las Olas Blvd. is also geared towards the younger crowd and has plenty of bars/restaurants. This was about a $18 cab ride. FYI: although Miami is only about 25 minutes away, it is about a $100 cab ride! Directly across the street is McDonalds, Bank of America, Winn Dixie (supermarket) and some other shops. There is a deli (East Side) that has great food and they are really cheap. I had breakfast there twice and got A LOT more than at the hotel and for A LOT cheaper (2 eggs, meat, grits, oatmeal, bagel, home fries for only $6)! Winn Dixie sells beer and wine so if you drink that, it is an alternative to spending money on that at the hotel. The pool lounge (live entertainment area they boast on the web site) was closed for renovation. For what I was looking for: relaxation, clean rooms (oh, the beds were REALLY comfortable), great pool/beach area, I couldn't beat this place for the price. If I had to do it again however, I would still prefer to stay in Miami!
