I was leery about checking in due to all of the negative reviews I read online. It actually wasn't that bad, but depends all on what type of vacation you are expecting. If you just want a decent place, clean rooms with comfy beds, great beach/pool/jacuzzi area in order to soak up some sun and relax, then it's not bad for the price. If you are expecting luxurious accommodations or amenities, then this isn't the place for you! Check in was quick and the staff was friendly. The online pics are pretty accurate, however, because of all of the mirrors, the rooms appear larger online than they actually are. The lobby was very nice but furniture is outdated and it smells like mildew. The rooms were pretty standard but we ended up switching to the other side because of the construction that is going on next door (and YES they do work on the weekends despite what we were told by the front desk). I didn't see many eating in the restaurant. Most ate on the patio facing the pool/ocean. I only ate from the restaurant once and paid $30 for two mimosas and an egg platter (2 eggs, home fries and meat). The pool/jacuzzi/beach area is really nice. The lounge chairs on the pool deck are free, but cost $5 (umbrellas are $10) if you want them on the beach. The beach is literally STEPS away. You can lounge on the pool deck and look at the beautiful ocean right in front of you. The hotel is located in a quiet, condominium/hotel area so there isn't much to do w/in walking distance. Beach Place is not far via cab/car (approximately a $10 cab ride) and is a younger atmosphere that has plenty of restaurants and bars (like Fat Tuesday, etc.) The Riverfront on W. Las Olas Blvd. is also geared towards the younger crowd and has plenty of bars/restaurants. This was about a $18 cab ride. FYI: although Miami is only about 25 minutes away, it is about a $100 cab ride! Directly across the street is McDonalds, Bank of America, Winn Dixie (supermarket) and some other shops. There is a deli (East Side) that has great food and they are really cheap. I had breakfast there twice and got A LOT more than at the hotel and for A LOT cheaper (2 eggs, meat, grits, oatmeal, bagel, home fries for only $6)! Winn Dixie sells beer and wine so if you drink that, it is an alternative to spending money on that at the hotel. The pool lounge (live entertainment area they boast on the web site) was closed for renovation. For what I was looking for: relaxation, clean rooms (oh, the beds were REALLY comfortable), great pool/beach area, I couldn't beat this place for the price. If I had to do it again however, I would still prefer to stay in Miami!

My husband and I spent a long weekend at the Ocean Sky in mid-March 2007. The lobby was very nice and we found the lobby staff to be helpful. We encountered a small problem with the first room that we were given, but when we notified the front desk staff we were rapidly moved to a new room. Our room was a bit dated, but clean. We enjoyed a nice view of the beach and ocean from the balcony, however, I do agree that the dividers between the balconies provided little security or privacy. We were very careful to lock all three locks that were on the balcony door! The beach and pool areas were clean and appeared to be well maintained. There was a nice Tiki bar poolside with good drinks. The hotel was located an easy drive from most attractions. This hotel could be an easy 3-4 star with a bit of updating to the rooms. We would consider staying here again if we were to visit the area again.

This hotel was not good at all. We got rooms different from what we had asked for the first night. when we arrived they could not get our swipe cards to work on the room door so they told us we would just have to contact security every time we wanted in and then i had $140 stolen from the room while we were at the beach and all the hotel manager could say was "Oh well theres nothing we can do about it". definitly would not stay here again.

I read the reviews and was not expecting the RITZ. I also paid $71 a night and the hotel exceeded my expectations for that price. My husband and daughter stayed for 3 nights after a long vacation in Barbados-so we knew it was a downgrade.
PROS
~lobby is lavish-makes you feel like your stepping into something really fancy! (but keep reading....)
~I heard about bad valet service-but i never had to wait or encountered bad service.
~the pool area is large, clean and the bartender is nice
(the older blonde lady, not the younger european one)
~the beach is FANTASTIC-highlight of the property. the waves are calm and you can go out really far without it getting deep. there is a watersports hut to go jetski'ing etc. they rent the beach chairs/umbrella for $20. that is crazy-so i just used the pool lounges which are free..the beach is so close you can lay on the pool deck and stare at the water anyway.
~the huge jacuzzi is great but it was already 90 degrees outside so that was best for the nighttime.
~i ordered a children's cheeseburger (only $6 w/ fries) it was so good and those burgers were HUGE!
~the beds were comfortable for a budget hotel, with clean linens
~housekeeping did a good job, but i asked her to sweep the balcony b/c it was full a dust. she looked at me liked i asked for a kiss! i even said give me a broom so I can do it myself-still the "are you crazy" look persisted, i just gave up.
~the room has a micro & fridge, which helped b/c there is a 24 hr walgreens 2 min away and we stocked up on snacks/juice.
~all rooms have at least a partial oceanview, it was beautiful!!!!!!
CONS
~the hallways have a cheap motel look
~the balcony door is a real door and all the balconies are connected to each other and very dusty, the plastic chairs were so dingy i couldnt even scrub the dirt off to sit on them.
~the fridge only keeps things "cool" NOT cold (beware)
~construction going on next door woke us up at dawn!

all in all it was not horrible for what I paid for. but do not pay more than $70 a night.

  • Liked — location right on a great beach-easy to get to from both airports
  • Disliked — dusty balcony,

Just got back from my stay at this hotel over the 4th of July weekend. Have to say i was not impressed, but it's cheap so i guess you get what you pay for.
My main complaint would be that the door would not work, no matter how many times we switched out the cards to try and open it. We complained, they said they would send someone to fix the door card key reader thing, but that never happened.
Also housekeeping, not the greatest. First of all they didn't come clean our room until about 4 or 5 pm in the afternoon, and on one of those occasions when we were in the room, the maid cleaned the drinking glasses with the same towel she had just used to dust with.
They do charge you 8 bucks a day for valet, but there seems to be a shortage of available valet guys, and they don't come in until 6 am. So if you have to be at the airport before 6 am, you will be doing your own valet as we had to.
In general, i just found the place lacking in basic services that i think any hotel should have whether 5 star or 2 star, and the staff
could use a little education on customer service.
