First off, for $79 per night, what can you expect. We did not have any problems with bugs. The past reviewers are right and they are wrong. The pool area is large with plenty of seating, however they will charge you for everything. A cabana for the day is $16.00 both by the pool and by the beach. Jet skis are $95 per hour or $66 per 1/2 hour which is really expensive (they are independent). Beach had a lot of seaweed during high tide, but not too bad during low tide, saw some really cool fish.
Rooms - they definitely need some updating! they are reminicent of motels. Mattresses are really starting to sink! The bathroom was updated, but small. We were on the 7th floor and had a decent view of the surf (not oceanfront, but a decent oceanview). But needs a definite face lift, don't expect the the Ritz. But we were on vacation and not really spending too much time in the room.
Pool - there is an oversized jacuzzi and the beach access is right there. However, the pool was salty and cloudy. The tiki bar is right there, but overpriced. some days a Margarita was 6.75 (with tip and tax included) and other times it was 8.00. Ordered lunch at the tiki bar and was not too disappointed.
Other - When I was there (down season) the restaurant was not open. However, we were in walking distance to Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, and other GREAT restaurants. Aruba restaurant is really good and on the beach (about 10 minute walk) and Oceans Grill (strip mall right past Winn-Dixie) was awesome.
My worsest complaint was the wake up call at 3:15 a.m. by means of fire alarm. After proceeding down 7 flights of stairs we assembled in the lobby along with 30 other people (some people didn't bother) we were waiting for the fire trucks (which never came) and waited for further instructions. We never got them. After waiting a few minutes, my husband asked was was going on and was rudely answered by the night front desk person. It seemed as if we were bothering her. We were told that it must have been a prank. However, if we never would have asked, we would have sat there all night. Nobody bothered to tell anyone assembled what was going on. It was very disorganized.
The lobby was beautiful and there is a game room, gift shop and nice beach. The Concierge and Nena at the Tiki bar were very nice. It is a decent place to stay for a couple of days (especially with kids).
