“Nice enough, right on beach, close to main strip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014

Upon arriving it was nicer than I'd expected, I'd booked on Priceline and named my own price of $175 per night in February. It was a little further north on the strip than I expected but was close enough by car, not walking distance. We were pleasantly surprised they had a room ready for us earlier than stated check in time, however it had a bit of a deodorizer smell and faced the parking lot primarily. They say all rooms have an ocean view but the are all pretty much partial, sideways views, none of the rooms are full ocean front facing. We ended up moving to room 327 which was closer to the ocean but right on top of giant, ugly air conditioner things on the roof of the banquet rooms so the balcony was not enjoyable. The beach, pool, and hot tub area are nice with plenty of chairs available and cabanas to rent. We ate from the tiki bar and was decent enough. Overall the rooms were decent, bed fairly comfortable, and bathroom was clean but small. I was pleased based on the deal I got but I wouldn't stay here again unless it was a good deal.

Room Tip: Higher number rooms are closer to the ocean, lower numbers away from the ocean on top of parking lot...

We stayed at this hotel because we entered a two star price and this was the three star hotel we got. The price we paid was, in fact, 30% less than anywhere else on the web I could find for the same dates, so we feel satisfied we got the best room rate.

After reading reviews here, however, I was a bit dubious of what our stay would be like. We flew in on Saturday evening and by the time we claimed our bags, got a rental car and drove to the hotel, it was nearly 10pm. We were given room 402, which was on the fourth floor towards the back, nearer to the street than beach. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet.

It was obvious this property is probably 35-40 years old as the surrounding buildings were notably taller and larger. Likely, it was originally a Hilton or similar and changed ownership as it aged. We found it to be well kept and maintained.

Things we liked about the hotel:

Directly on the beach.

There were already 4 pillows on the king sized bed, so we didn’t need to ask for more. The bed was very comfortable.

There’s a separate elevator to take you to the beach so you don’t have to parade thru the lobby in your beachwear.

The valet parking is very handy when it rains – they’ll get your car and drive it up under the awning so you can stay out of the rain – very nice for those quick afternoon showers.

Coffee makers and coffee in the room actually tastes good. (There’s also a small frig and microwave.)

Lots of boutique restaurants and shops within walking distance of the hotel.

Wifi in room worked very well.

What we didn’t like:

Jellyfish on the beach in the morning – watch out!

Very little free parking in the area and always taken; metered parking always seemed full as well. Lots of tow away parking if you’re the sort to push that luck.

Parking was $15 a night extra, but as we saw the parking situation of the area, we guessed it was likely a bargain.

All in all, a nice 2 day, pre-cruise stay. We would consider this hotel again, but I still would go to Priceline and enter the 2 star price to get this hotel (or something similar) instead of paying the rates you see on the travel sites.

We stayed at the Ocean Sky Hotel and Resort for four nights. Our experience was mixed.

The location of the hotel is excellent, right by the beach and you get access to the ocean from the hotel. The beach, however, is narrow and there was sea weed both on the sand and in the water. There is a heated pool and a jacuzzi as well as a bar and a restaurant next to them. We had pizza at the restaurant, which was decent and reasonably priced. While you can use most beach chairs by the pool free of charge, the ones on the beach are $5 each per day. One thing we did not appreciate at all is that the worker who charges you for the chairs seems to purposefully wait for you to settle down (i.e. place your towel on the chair, sit down, put your things down, etc.) and only THEN approaches you asking for the fee. And it wasn’t just us, we watched him do it repeatedly throughout the day to other hotel guests, most of whom then gathered their belongings and left – very awkward. Cabanas (soft beach chairs) you also need to pay for, so beware.

The parking is $15 per day and they have both valet parking and a self-park across the street for the same fee. Wifi is free, but we found the internet to be spotty. The staff were overall friendly and the concierge downstairs was very helpful in assisting us both with directions and suggestions about where to go for food/attractions. The cleaning staff were also friendly and did a good job.

The room was clean and spacious and had a microwave and a small fridge in it. The room had partial ocean view, which was lovely. However, if you are going to be traveling there any time soon, keep in mind that there is currently construction happening somewhere very close to the hotel, so sitting on the balcony or even keeping the balcony door open is way too noisy (at least it was for us).

One thing that certainly made our stay significantly worse was a problem the hotel had with water. While you were showering, the water would suddenly become cold and after a minute or two warm up again. On another day there was no hot water at all for a while. We notified the hotel staff and they sent a worker to our room, who checked it and did nothing. We followed up several more times and other workers came by, again, unable to fix the problem. The staff we spoke to claimed that we were the only ones experiencing this problem, even though our next door neighbour complained to us that the water stopped while he was all soaped up. There are also references to water problems at the hotel in previous TripAdvisor reviews, so we felt the hotel staff could at least admit to the problem, rather than pretending it is the first they hear of this.

While it was not a terrible experience by any means, we do not plan to stay in this hotel in the future.

We booked this hotel off of Hotwire so were a bit nervous but what a find! Great price for mid February $130 and it is on the beach! Only one tiny issue with the consistent temperature of the water in the shower other than that...beds were comfy and seemed very clean to me!

I stayed here for three nights and found it to be a pleasant place to stay right on the beach great staff!!, great location on the beach, pool, tiki bar, hot Tub, walking distance to Stores and Rest. 10 min drive to Las Olas Blvd. A little dated but clean some complain about 15.00 to park but you know this if you did your research. It's more than I expected for the price I will definitely stay here again and recommend it!

My girlfriend and I had not been to Florida in many years and were very excited for our trip. Our trip began with a slightly rude cab driver that took us to the hotel but that changed as soon as we arrived. The concierge met us at the front of the drive and greeted us warmly!
The hotel is a little dated but it is still very nice and our room was neat and clean. The food in the restaurant is not bad and the portions are great but the service in the restaurant was horrible. I had to go hunt the server down the first night we were there and when we had breakfast there a few days later, the service was just as bad.
While the service in the restaurant was bad , the service at the bar was phenominal; the prices were a little high but the staff made up for that. Mike, Mina, and Sarah are excellent employees and take good care of the guests. They all went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. I accidently left my wallet at the bar when we were in the hottub and the bartender, Minka, made sure that I got it back, in tact.
The beach at the hotel is amazing but be prepared to pay if you want to sit on any furniture other than the mass loungers at the pool.
The surrounding area is nice and is quite accessible on foot. There are restaurants, a grocery store, a liquor store and a beach accessory store. All of this is convenient since the prices at the property are quite high.
I would recommend this place to anyone. We are talking about bringing some of our friends down for a stay.
The entire experience met our expectations and maybe even went above them so, we are looking forward to returning next year.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014 via mobile

My friend and I had been planning a trip to Ft. Lauderdale for some time and had spent an exhausting amount of time researching a place to stay. As we had no desire to rent a car, our main requirement was that we stay someplace on the beach. Our entire intention was to soak up as much Florida sun before returning to the ice, snow and frigid temperatures up north.
Numerous poor reviews of
local establishments had us a bit nervous as to where we would stay. We were on a budget and not wanting to spend five star resort prices. Finally we decided to let hotwire make our decision for us. I am thrilled that it chose the Ocean Sky Resort. I don't know that it exceeded our expectations, but it absolutely met them.
The staff were very courteous throughout our five day stay. The room was clean and well maintained. The view from the 8th floor included a partial view if the ocean. The pool was lovely and there were more than enough lounge chairs for sunning. Complimentary pool towels were provided and we found the food from the tiki bar to be quite enjoyable (we found a chicken and guacamole wrap on the menu that we liked so we had one every day while lounging by the pool).
There was a coffee shop, a grocery store, a Bank of
America, a nail salon and a pharmacy all within a very short walk from the resort. Additionally, there were a variety of bars and restaurants within a mile, both north and south, of the
hotel, so we were easily able to walk in the evenings to our dinner destinations.
Check in and out of the hotel were both prompt and efficient, and there were no additional charges incurred on our final bill.
If I had any"complaint" to offer up, it would be that after three o'clock in the afternoon, the building would cast a shadow over the area of the pool where we enjoyed sunning...easily rectified as we would simply relocate to the beach at that point of the day.
If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place to stay, I highly recommend the ocean sky resort and hotel. It is not a five, or even four star hotel. But it is a perfectly respectable three star hotel and if you go in with that in mind, I believe you will be more than pleased with the accommodations.
