I hesitated to book rooms here after reading the reviews that were listed but having grown up in this area, I do understand that this hotel and the area surrounding is very old. It is also understood that tipping is very important for good service, so if you're cheap or you just expect someone to do it cause they're supposed to go somewhere else. The economy here is built on the tourist industry. The hotel is very close to shopping, restaurants (try the East Side Deli for breakfast), there is a grocery store across the street. Best restaurant in FL is "Casablanca Cafe" which is 5-6 miles south on A1A. The hotel is right on the beach which is wonderful, the pool is delightful, clean and well kept. The staff is responsive, the bar is good. The rooms are old, if you are looking for glitz and glamor, this hotel is not for you, go to South Beach or Las Olas Blvd. I had two rooms at 159.00 per night for a week, the maids were wonderful (given that I tipped them $20. the first day), anything I asked for I got. More pillows, more coffee, etc. There are refrigerators in the rooms, the air conditioner is cold and the TV worked. The beds are comfortable if you like soft beds, I do. You do pay for daily parking and the daily safe charge, even if you don't use it. Get over it, that's the standard in Ft. Lauderdale. The vallet's were also wonderful and prompt. . I would definitely book a vacation here again, this is old Florida, let's keep a little of it alive before it all becomes condos and South Beach.

We were transferred to this hotel after our original hotel had overbooked. We were so disappointed both in location and standard. I would never, ever have chosen it. Extrance, Foyer and pool area were first class but lifts, hallway and roms were filthy. Doors hanging off, musty smells, walls and paintwork badly marked. This hotel should never have been classed 3*, one star would have been more appropriate. The location is most certainly not central and there is practically nothing in the area. We arrived in the evening after a long flight from UK and wanted to go out and unwind before retiring - nothing in the area.

We were very disappointed with this hotel. They have improved the lobby to make you think it is a nice clean place... but it is not. The rooms were small and musty. The ceiling had so much plaster on it it looked as though it was going to fall down. It appeared as though this plaster was covering leaks and mold. There were not enough towels, the carpets were gross and the balcony over-looked a large industrial fan. There were really no barriers between units on the balcony so it felt as if anyone could come to the balcony door or look in or... It just fel unsafe. They have advertised rates at $109 but won't give that to you unless you simply show up (no reservation) so it is frustrating to pay so much more for the same room. I found the valet service was a nice touch though.

We were told this was a 3 star hotel. We surmised it deserves half a star.
The cons are: There was sticky floors in the bathroom, the vent was stuffed with dirty stuff. The room smelled like over used carpet deoderant/cleaner. The balcony railings supports were all cracked and looked like an accident waiting to happen. The outside doors were peeling. The view from the balcony was of trash below, and a very small slice of the ocean. The lock on the outside door could easly be broken into. The balconies were all connected. The food in the restraunt was VERY over priced for cheap junk food.
The Pros are: nice pool area, and beach. Nice lobby.

Considered yourself warned by someone who spent a night in this hellhole, and made a call back to our travel agent to get us out of that place. DO NOT GO THERE!
