Just returned from our one night stay at this "resort". Truthfully, it was one day too long.
Let me begin by stating that this hotel has a 4 p.m. check in time. I was aware of this, but had asked for special consideration due to the fact that I was bringing my 81-yr-old father along and I knew that he needed to be situated long before that time. I spoke directly to the manager who assured me that he understood and would accomodate our special request. I made 4 phone calls to confim that this information was a part of our reservation - each time I received an affirmative reply.
We arrived much later than 1 - it was actually 3:45; 15 minutes before the "regular" check in time. My room wasn't ready. As a matter of fact, the guy at desk told me that the people in "my" room had requested a late check out and would be in there until 5 p.m.!!! He looked at me with a blank questioning expression as if he couldn't understand why this would be an issue.
I was not pleased. It took about 30 minutes more for the staff to pull another of the "ocean front suites" together.
The elevator is ancient - rickety and uncertain. The hallways feel like they were last painted in 1953. There is a dampness, a mustiness to the common areas.
The room was a serious disappointment. I could see that the management is trying to make improvements as a beautiful new kitchen area was in place (though the refrigerator door was falling off). There was a view of the ocean - if you stood up. Not visable from the chairs or couch in the living area. There was a new plasma screen TV on the wall, but the TV in the bedroom didn't even have a cable hooked up to it... must have gotten overlooked while the improvements were made. The bathroom has nice pieces of marble - but some were cracked and broken, the knob fell off the shower controls. The beds were very simple and basic but, in fairness, they did seem clean.
Overall, a tasteless presentation that smacked of the type of hotel I didn't mind checking into in Ft. Lauderdale for Spring Break - in the 70's when I was 17. But spending over $200 a night for this drab, broken down, shop worn excuse of a hotel room was just over the top. And that was a special website-only discount.
Oh! There is no self parking in their small lot. It costs $8 a day for a valet to put your car within 15 feet of the front door.
So, as a synopsis - DON'T STAY HERE! The reviewer who said that their website designer deserved a medal was spot on. The website photos bear no resemblance to the disappointments that lie just inside the front door of the Ocean Sky "Resort".
