We just returned from a week stay at the Ocean Manor Resort Hotel. We traveled with two other families and I can honestly say all of our rooms were very nice. We did all book through private owners. We stayed in unit 816. It was absolutely beautiful! It was very clean and had a magnificent view of the pool and the ocean. It also had an oversized living area because the balcony was enclosed and made into part of the living room. The room had two master bedrooms with walk in closets and their own bathroom. We rented from Diane and she was very easy to deal with. Our friends rented unit 710 (a two bedroom) which also was very nice with a HUGE balcony overlooking the ocean and pool area. Our other friends rented unit 801 (a one bedroom)which had a nice view of the city and good sunset views. Their unit was immaculate.
Ocean Manor is in a good location. There is supermarket, pizza place, bagel/deli place, McDonalds, and Dunkin Donuts all right across the street and withing walking distance. The street you had to cross was not that busy in July, but may get busier in the winter months.
We went to a Marlins game, traveled to South Beach in Miami, went to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and Dave and Busters in Hollywood. All of these areas are 30 to 45 minutes away. We also walked around Los Olas Blvd and Lauderdale by the Sea which are both only a 5 or 10 minute drive. The airport is also fairly close --about 20 minutes.
The hotel is being renovated, but the beach and pool area are very nice. The staff was friendly. The Tiki bar does provide music on the weekends. They also provide beach service on the weekend. As long as you are discreet, the staff does not give you a hard time about bringing your own refreshments to the beach. (They were a little more watchful on the weekends.) Of course, I am sure they would rather you bought all your drinks at the Tiki bar. Be sure and check out the coupon books in the front lobby because there are two coupons in there -- one for the restaurant ($5 off a bill of $30 or more and one buy one drink get one free at the Tiki bar.) Also the restaurant automatically adds an 18% tip onto the bill which the waitress did not mention to my son so he ended up double tipping. Not a problem, but it's nice to be aware of it.
All in all we had a great time and I would definitely go back if I am in the Fort Lauderdale area!
