“Hotel from Hell”

Very bad experience at the Ocean Manor, Fort Lauderdale. When we checked in they overbooked the hotel by ten rooms. They offered us the penthouse at the same rate as a result. Thought that would be wonderful-not. The room had no cable,fridge,micowave or telephone. Then they rented a storage room out next to us to a bunch of partying
high schoolers on prom night which kept us up until 3am. The next day we requested a different room which wasn't as bad but the pluming
fixtures were loose and a folding door was hinged to be a sliding door. The elevators reminded me of the Tower of Terror. Also, at the Tiki Bar watching the bartenders make frozen drinks was amazing. They
would add less than one shot for two drinks. The web page is misleading. The pool was freezing, no king size beds at this location
and they do not have pillow top mattresses.

After reading all the reviews, we were prepared for the worse but was definitely delighted. We had great service from the front desk on all contacts. They checked us in promptly, gave us great rooms (numbers 206 and 214), helped us with transportation, recommended Arubas's to eat, etc. They were professional and helpful. The pool area and restroom by the pool were clean and staff were also excellent.

We did have problems with having hot water but for just over $100 dollars at Fort Lauderdale and during the Air and Sea Show.....it was definitely worth the money!! We'd come back.

P.S. The restaurant by the pool has great food and for really good prices. Also, the hotel uses AJ and a back-up service for assisting with transportion. They were awesome. Transporting us to the cruise port, and being there when we got back a week later to take us to the airport (without a reminder). Cheaper than the cabs, etc. Thanks Ocean Manor for a great vacation!!

We stayed at the Ocean Manor during March Break for one week. I can understand why so many people have left negative reviews. The hotel from the outside and lobby look good. Elevators are nice but very slow, and hallways can be scary. The key here is to book through a private owner as we did. The rooms from the hotel are badly looked after (unless you are lucky and get a good one). Our room was through a private owner and was clean, safe and had a great view. The pool was clean and warm. The beach was great. The waitress at the pool side restaurant were slow but the food was good and not overly priced. The tikii bar was a little over priced and slow. . . but hey. . . you are on vacation. Across the street was a McDonalds and with in a minute walk were restaurants, convenience stores, souveniers store and a grocery store.
All in all, this was a great vacation for our family. Valet parking was free and they were quick and polite. Obviously you leave a tip each time you drop off and ask for your car. . . but only a dollar or two each time. No problems at all.
Do yourself the favour and go through a private owner and ask for many pictures of the room you are renting.
This was a great vacation !

First of all Valet Parking Only, and they had lost our car a couple times and it took forever for them to get it, some of the young men not speak English. So everytime we left they expected a tip which adds up quickly and not to mention the $15.00 charge for parking you pay at check out. Next upon check-in which is at 3:00, (we checked in at 4:10 pm) we were given a key and sent on our way when we got to the room the maid was still cleaning it and didnt speak very good English so I waited out in the hallway with 3 kids and my mother in law (of course my husband was at the air show) we kept standing there and finally "Rosie" -the manager for the housekeeping noticed I was waiting for a room, told the maid to go faster because the guest in waiting she even had another maid help her this went on for 20 min. When we did get into the room the double beds looked like the would fall down you could shake the bed frame, the furniture looked like they got it off the dump, there was plexy glass for the door that over looked the ocean. The glass did not fit into the door frame!! There was a 1/2" gap that my 2 and 3 year old could get they fingers stuck in not to mention the "lock" which they could open the door to get to the balcony! The balcony table and chairs where rusted and one of the chairs had one leg shorter than the others. Inside on one of the walls it looked like someone had spit tobacco on the wall and it was never cleaned. To top it off I pick up the phone to call the front desk and they is NO PHONE LINE!!!!!!! I told Rosie that there was no way my family is staying in the dump. She said she would talk with the owner, she did get us another room but we were in an OCEANFRONT room and was moved to a OCEAN VIEW (partial) with no price break. We were also told that there are different investors that own the hotel rooms so some rooms are booked by the hotel and if you booked through the internet than the staff had to contact that owner to resolve the problem! And watch your bill we got charged an extra resort fee!!!!!!!!!!!!stay away!!!!!!!!!!

We thought we had a dream vacation planned- the beach was very nice-gounds were very clean-then the nightmare began. After 3 girls from Texas checked into this Hotel, we were plaqued with every problem you could think of, not to mention the rudness of ALL the employees at the front desk of this hotel. From the get go-we had NO HOT WATER EVER!! When we would call down to complain-we were told we were the only ones that did not have hot water and that in a few minutes it would be fixed-no- not for the whole time we were there 6 days!!The refrigerator door did not close good and we finally figured out that you had to give it a good KICK at the bottom for it to stay closed or else we would loose our food and ice. We never had a soft towel or never enough towels, always had to call for more-with 3 girls we used a lot!! If you went out to the beach - you had to RENT everything from your beach towels-chair and even an umbrella!! Then you would only stay on the beach from 9-5pm when there is so much sun left in the day to go. We were all quite dissapointed in this stay at Ft. Lauderdale's Ocean Manor. I would not recomend this place to any of my friends to stay at-EVER!! My understanding was that they had personnel probelms and could not get people to work. Some days our room never got cleaned. Vacationers BEWARE of this place.

This place had great potential. The rooms were clean, the pool and grounds were beautiful but here are the problems we had: We could never get washcloths. Every single day I had to call the front desk. The AC was in the ceiling and dripped condensation on the floor. We had to put down towels to keep from slipping. The AC was also very loud when cutting on and off. The electronic keying system went on the fritz and people were locked out for hours. There was never enough hot water. By 10am it was gone. The electrical outlet in the bathroom was very loose and our hair dryer would go on and off. The maintenance staff was very unfriendly. I almost stepped in dog pee in the lobby. You were not allowed to have anything around the pool or on the private beach that you didn't buy or rent from them. After all this, upon check-out, I was charged a $5/day resort fee which I was told covered several things including the "complimentary" parking. I guess I had a different understanding of "complimentary".

I recently booked a stay at the Ocean Manor Beach Resort in Lauderdale-By the Sea. After checking in I could NOT have been more disappointed in my choice. The rooms were dirty, chipped or unpainted walls smelled of mildew just unbelievable. I am still wondering where they got the pictures they posted on there web site, They sure were not any of the 3 rooms I was switched me to before demanding my money back and leaving to find an CLEAN place to stay.
