I booked this online with Expedia, after I booked my Trip My wife found this site with all the reviews. I was very nervous I have to admit. But when I was there, I was expecting a lot of what people were writing reviews about. I had no problems at all. The staff was great the hotel was remodeled and looked amazing inside with the Resturant and Lounge. The staff was very nice and I could see they really wanted to help me. People were all friendly there and I would recomend anyone to stay at this hotel. It is rated as a 2 star It could pass for a 3 star. This is a trip that made me realize it is what you make of it. I was positive the whole time and had a blast there. You have to eat and The Greek islands it is great! But the staff knew where to go and what to eat and was very knoledgeable about the area.

This place is not for the business traveler.

When I'm on vacation, I'm on my own time and schedule... but when I'm on the road as a "road warrior", time is money.

Ocean Manor is what I'd characterize as a "classic" place - full of funky, 1950's vibe that would generally delight me if not for some key points:

1. Their website has some very nice photographs of the property. Yes, it's the same property as the one I stayed at in real life... but their photographer used the "champagne filter" - get a snoot full of bubbly, and you'll overlook the reality.

2. The website says the rooms have "full amenities". I guess that's a holdover from the 1950's, when "amenities" meant "a bed, a roof, and a floor". There was no iron, no ironing board, no coffee pot, and not even DIAL-UP Internet access! I did get an iron, by going down to the lobby and "checking one out" from the front desk.

3. Upon checking in, I discovered they charge a $5/day "resort fee", over and above their room rates. When I questioned what this fee covered, nobody could tell me. It's a capricious method of increasing their monetary yield, with no commensurate Value.

4. Speaking of which - every time I turned around, it seemed there was somebody else with their hand out, expecting a gratuity. Most annoying was the "valet parking", when there's a huge lot just out front - multiple meetings during my stay meant multiple $2 "tips" to the parking attendants... and that added up. I'll grant that at peak times (say, spring break) they may need the valet service, but I found it annoying.

On the flip side - the beds were absolutely the BEST I've ever experienced, anywhere in my travels. The staff was pleasant and cordial, if sometimes in a "seedy, beach-bum" kind of way.

I like the funky vibe. I spoke with several guests while I was there, some of whom say they've been coming there for 15 or more years. For their sake, and for the sake of the laid-back aura of the place, I'd say "don't change a thing".

As a Road Warrior, however, I need my iron and Internet... so I guess it's back to the Marriott for me. If ever I vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, I'll consider Ocean Manor... but ONLY if they have Internet by then. Even when I'm vacationing, I still need my Internet.

Having stayed at many top of the line hotels I have to say that this one ranks up there with the best. Just recently I stayed in Miami at a top 5 star resort and it could not compare to this one. The staff was exceptional. Whether it was for the room service, lobby bar, cafe,tiki bar,or the lobby entrance everyone went out of their way to make sure we were happy.

Our Room was beautiful. We had a two bedroom suite overlooking the pool and ocean. It was magnificient. Each room had a fabulous balcolny and redone bathrooms with brand new furniture and tiles. The rooms were cleaned and attended to daily. If we were not ready for the rooms to be cleaned they came back with no problems.

The food at both the Cafe by the pool and Rumors was great. The french toast was by far the best I have had anywhere.

The lobby bar provided the perfect ending everyday.

The hotel proximity to everything in Fort Lauderdale is right there making it easy walking and driving distance to many attractions, and restaurants. I highly recommend staying there.

The front entrance is very unappealing. This place is cheap looking and smelly. The valet personnel talked on cell phones while parking cars!

I visited the beautiful and inviting Ocean Manor Resort website and immediately made reservations. I went to visit the site prior to my arrival date and I am glad I did! The photos posted on the website will lure you straight into the serenity of the ocean. The rooms, the lobby , nor the restaurant look anything like the angle of their camera's perspective. There's mold and mildrew permeating the air as you walk the dirty carpeted hallways. Yuck!
