Read some of the negative comments about this hotel while we were planning a fun hop to Fort Lauderdale. For fun, I decided to make a low bid on one of the sites and to my surprise this Hilton accepted it. Now I'd like to set the record straight --
The hotel is old-school with a big resort feel. Right off of highway 95, making it central...minutes to a lot of places -- Fort Lauderdale beach, Hallandale, Miami -- very easy travel. Griffin is a major road that cuts across to West FL...Making it minutes to the NJ Turnpike and casinos. Lobby is clean, staff was friendly and professional (I don't ask for them to be my friend....just do their jobs...and they did with a smile and a free bottle of water -- hooorah!). The public spaces were clean and comfortable.
The room was large, bathroom was clean and very functional (big mirrors, storage places and a nice countertop)...bed was comfortable (nice King)...desk with a comfortable chair...the the usual (hair dryer, iron and board). Okay -- yes, the TV is old fashion but it worked just fine -- 42 channels and some on-demand options as well. (Sorry, I know this might be important to some but the way I figure it is if I wanted to watch TV I would stay home and watch my new 80-inch -- enough said). The Internet signal wasn't crispy but was expensive at $12 a day. I decided to skip it -- I was there on fun time...so, I just took my tablet to a nearby Duncan Donut that had free wi-fi and did email and online stuff while sipping my morning coffee. (Kept the room rate down...)
The pool was very nice and had plenty of chairs and towels. The gym was larger than most hotel gyms with plenty of cardio equipment and free-weights. Ample parking in a covered multi-layer parking lot -- There is a cost for this -- $15 a day -- so if you are making an online bid take that into consideration -- $50 a day actually means $65 if you're parking a car -- which of course if you want to travel around....you want to have a car as the hotel is short driving distance to attractions...you'll get a lot of walking in if you are getting around on foot. Also, the parking lot is about 200 feet from the hotel entrance...the walk way is lit and covered...still it is a little spooky at 3 a.m.
Overall, we were very comfortable in this hotel...the room was a great value for the money we paid. Further, we felt comfortable enough to take advantage of the pool and gym -- and found it easy to get around to the different places we enjoy while in Florida.
