This is located right on A1A right next to the Yankee Clipper. A short cab ride to/from Ft. Lauderdale Airport and even shorter ride to Port Everglades. A bit farther away from most of the restaurants than we anticipated.
We arrived earlier than check in. They held our luggage and we walked to the Bahia Cabana for a bite to eat. When the room was ready, they called our cell to inform us. Front desk staff was pleasant and efficient at check-in.
Checkout was a bit long as there was only one person at the front desk who had to answer the phone, answer lengthy questions asked by visitors, and handle the checkouts. He went into the back room and returned with additional staff following shortly thereafter to handle the customer line that had formed.
This is an older hotel. Looks like it is freshly painted on the inside. Pleasant lobby with a big salt water fish tank, although it was on the dark side.
We booked a balcony room, which ended up being in the back of the hotel, 3rd floor, room 322. The balcony overlooked the exit from their parking garage and the Yankee Clipper Hotel, which was situated next door and a wing of it stretched behind the Best Western. Very noisy location due to the room being near the exit from the parking garage, the Yankee Clipper dumpster, and there was quite a bit of traffic on the side street. No view of ocean from the balcony.
The room had two double beds, iron, hairdryer, safe, microwave, coffee maker. Looks like they did some upgrades to the bathroom. They provided plenty of towels, shampoo, lotion & soap. The air conditioning worked perfectly. We had to run the water for quite a bit waiting for the hot water to travel up to the 3rd floor. But, once it arrived, we had plenty of hot water for two long, hot showers. The carpeting could have used a good cleaning. I was wearing my white sport socks and they got filthy from walking on the carpeting.
The beach was a very short stroll from the hotel.
The rooms on each side of the hotel had a door from the corrider and from the outside walk-way. The outside walkways were not private to each room, but were accessible to all guests. Our room was near two doors to the outside walkways, through which guests would enter/leave and the doors would bang closed.
Excellent breakfast buffet. Bar is open late afternoon into the evening and serves light meals that can be heated in their microwave/small oven. Outdoor pool is advertised as heated. Can't vouch for that because we didn't use the pool. Had a few round tables and chairs around the pool and some loungers. There was another level above the pool with loungers.
We ordered a pizza from the advertisement on the room key card. It was good, but was delivered with no napkins. So, if you order a pizza, ask them to deliver napkins. :-)
The most disturbing thing that occurred, was we went out for the day and arrived back at the hotel around 8pm and found our door not securely closed. Nothing was disturbed or missing, so we just figured the door didn't close securely after the maid cleaned our room that day. We mentioned it to the front desk when we checked out, just to let them know what happened. That way, they can inform their staff to check to be sure the doors are locked when they leave the rooms.
Our stay was comfortable, but we would choose a hotel closer to more restaurants within walking distance.
