We loved the Oceanside! We went with our two young kids and the room with an individual deck was perfect for us (although most are shared).
Plus, we had a view of the ocean, well between two buildings, but we could see it! The room was clean, the fridge and microwave were helpful in saving some money, the breakfast was large and great, overall the staff were generally friendly and helpful, and the location was fine for us. A quick walk around the back of the building
to the beach. A bit of a walk, or short cab ride, to get food. Also, the Yankee Clipper next door was great. They have a small snack shop, so we could get sandwiches and drinks there. Also, we were able to pay for the seats in their beachfront area. I don't know if we were supposed to, but we did, and it was great to have the service. The pool was clean and not too crowded. My older daughter enjoyed pool games with some European children. We ordered in most nights and ate by the pool, enjoying some drinks from the bar, and used the leftovers
for lunch the next day. Great way to save some money.

I was surprised to see the negative experiences from those who have stayed this fall. We're heading back in a couple weeks, so we're hoping for the same great experience we had last time.

Stayed for 1 night on our way to the Keys. Booked a king room with balcony and full breakfast. The bed was a problem, the bottom sheet corners would not stay on. Highly annoying. The balcony wasn't really useable, as the AC unit sticks out, makes noise and condensation (water) runs onto balcony. Don't waste your money for a balcony. The breakfast buffet food was terrible. It took 20 minutes for them to replenish the scrambled eggs after we told them it was empty. There are only a few mid-priced options on Fort Lauderdale Beach. None of them are real great. Next time I'll pay out top dollar for a night for a or try something on Hollywood Beach or North Miami Beach.

Stayed here for one night on our way down from Orlando to the Keys. Not the best Best Western I've stayed in but certainly not the worst. On arrival I was greeted by by a receptionist who had obviously had a hard day and didn't really want to be there. Polite enough but a smile would have been nice. The hotel is okay but ceratinly in need of some redecoration. The corridors are really drab and the rooms, especially the bathrooms, certainly need a facelift. However where the hotel really scores is in it's nearness to the beach. Literally a two minute walk out of the front door. Shops and restaraunts are only about ten minutes walk away.
Breakfast is reasonably good with a mixture of hot and cold items. The kids also liked the pool which was open until 11pm. Parking is an extra $5 a day but is in a covered reasonably secure area. Overall an okay hotel for the price but I think I might try somewhere else next time I visit.

Upon arrival to the hotel, I was greeted with the night auditor who was less than thrilled with having to do any work in the middle of the night. She sat in a back office as I entered the lobby at 4 am. I clearly broke the silence of the night by my entrance into the lobby, however I still had to call out to her from the desk. She walked out and with a very audible sigh I was greeted. All she said was, Yes? I said I was looking for a room for what remained of the night. She once again sighed and said she had a room, but that the late hour did not offer any discounts and that check out was still at 11 am. I just needed sleep, so decided to get a room despite the deterrence from the front desk clerk. She continued to sigh throughout the check in procedure. She clearly LOVED her job. NOT!! I was given some vague directions to our room and once we finally made it there my wife and young son climbed into bed while I went to freshen up a bit. Something caught my eye, something moving. Then noticed the something was many small quick ants through the bathroom. I went out turned on the light and found many more coming from cracks and crevices. I went down to the desk to meet the not so friendly clerk once more. She only shrugged when I told her the problem and asked me for my key. She reswiped the key and said I was now in the next room down. I went up to move my family. We gathered up our belongings and walked down the hall, as I went to open the door I noticed 3 more ants moving on the outside of the new room door. I went inside to look for more and did not have to look far. I went down to the desk once again and asked to be moved to another floor. I said it was clear that they had an infestation and asked if she ever knew of any problems. She said that she never had anyone complain before and that this is the first time she heard of anything like this at the hotel. She also acted as if she did not believe me and yelled for the maintenance man to go check it out before she moved me again. At this point you can imagine how happy I was with her less than apologetic demeanor, practically calling me a liar. I got upset and said I would accompany the maintenance man up there and then she once again asked rather rudely, Where are your keys? I said right here, she only held out her hand for me to give them to her. She once again swiped them and told the maintenance man she was putting me on the fourth floor in room 407, not even speaking to me directly. I went up with the man and he clearly saw what I did. He was very apologetic and tried to help us as best he could. He was the only shining gem in this ANT HILL. He walked in with my family and I to the new room to check it with me. We once again found more of the same little critters crawling around. He took us to another vacant room down the hall to find, you guessed it, more ants. We went into yet another room farther down the hall and at this point I was disgusted and extremely tired. I had driven all night and it was now around 5:30 am. We found one or two more ants in the room, but I decided to try to catch a few zz's anyway. He told us the manager and owner knew of the problem but did not want to spend the money on the exterminator. He told us that he just had this problem and everyone there knew of it, however, remember the clerk NEVER heard of it before. I took our luggage to the car as not to have any unwanted guests in them, and went off to sleep after trying to console my young son that nothing would hurt him. I was told I would have to talk to the manager the next day. She said, ohh you were the guy who walked out at first then decided to come back and stay with us. It took me a moment to figure out what she was trying to say, and then I realized that I did walk out to get my credit card so I could check in. She said to me, "With all due respect, you didn’t have to stay with us." I was appalled at this response. She told me in her words, "You in da south, you got to expect suga ants." I was also told that she just could not believe the night clerked acted like that, she said that she was her best employee. I was offered only half of my room rate back. The original rate was $89.00. This was unacceptable. I would not sign my receipt and am fighting this with my credit card company. I have never been more insulted in my life. I work in customer services, and have unfortunately seen some poor responses from other people that I end up fixing, but this one is by the far the worst. I am also writing to Best Western and letting them know how their good name is being degraded in this hotel. Hopefully something will be done. I will update with their response. **UPDATE** Unfortunately their response was nothing more than what I got.

  • Liked — The only saving grace was the maintenance man, and he is the only one who did not lie to me.
  • Disliked — The attitude of the clerk and management.

Front desk was hospitable and allowed us to check in an hour early. We parked in the gate control garage that charges $5.00 per day and took the elevator to the 3rd floor to our room.

It was to the right of the elevator and not down the hallway in the center where the elevator opens.

Our room had wet carpet. I hate wet carpet. The room was damp & musty. The bathroom did not have an exhaust fan. I did like the granite sink and the shower area was large. Also, the towels were big and fluffy.

The bed was average, but did have a mattress cover and only two small pillows per bed. It got really cold in the room with the a/c blowing at nighttime. The fridge and microwave were handy.
We ordered Chinese food after we got a number for takeout from the front desk and I got sick. It could have been the heat and/or the Shrimp Fried Rice.

The room had a safe and you could set your own pin It was big enough for a laptop and my pocketbook. I enjoyed the balcony off the room but a large Sheraton Inn blocked any view of the ocean.

The ocean is accessible by walking down the block and across the Sheraton's parking area and across a football field length of hot sand at 3:30 pm. The sand was cooler and more enjoyable at 7 pm when the sun is going down. We also figured out that we could pay $6.00 to park in the public parking lot at Fort Lauderdale Beach and walk less.

There are restrooms, outdoor showers, a playground for the kids and numerous picnic tables with bbq grills.
We took a ride on the Lady Lucille boat which was substituted for the Parrot Queen Jungle cruise boat that was in dry dock for repairs.

You can catch the boat a block from Best Western and it costs $39.95 per person for a ride on one of three levels of plastic lawn chairs on the boat. They take pics of you before boarding and charge $20-30 dollars for the pic printout later near the end of the cruise. The boat does not serve drinks or food.
Lady Lucille took us up the channel and the captain narrated
the tour. We ended up in the boat junkyard area and got off the boat to have dinner in a long building filled with long tables and benches.

The food was ok. The entertainment show was ok.
The animals in cages seemed lonely and forlorn.

I was glad to get off the boat.

We had breakfast at 8:30 am at Best Western's Charter Room
on the ground floor overlooking the swimming pool.
They had a wide selection of breakfast items from fruit and cereals to hot scrambled eggs,
SOS gravy & biscuits.

I turned in the room cards at the front desk at checkout and paid $10.50 for parking in the garage.
