Upon arrival to the hotel, I was greeted with the night auditor who was less than thrilled with having to do any work in the middle of the night. She sat in a back office as I entered the lobby at 4 am. I clearly broke the silence of the night by my entrance into the lobby, however I still had to call out to her from the desk. She walked out and with a very audible sigh I was greeted. All she said was, Yes? I said I was looking for a room for what remained of the night. She once again sighed and said she had a room, but that the late hour did not offer any discounts and that check out was still at 11 am. I just needed sleep, so decided to get a room despite the deterrence from the front desk clerk. She continued to sigh throughout the check in procedure. She clearly LOVED her job. NOT!! I was given some vague directions to our room and once we finally made it there my wife and young son climbed into bed while I went to freshen up a bit. Something caught my eye, something moving. Then noticed the something was many small quick ants through the bathroom. I went out turned on the light and found many more coming from cracks and crevices. I went down to the desk to meet the not so friendly clerk once more. She only shrugged when I told her the problem and asked me for my key. She reswiped the key and said I was now in the next room down. I went up to move my family. We gathered up our belongings and walked down the hall, as I went to open the door I noticed 3 more ants moving on the outside of the new room door. I went inside to look for more and did not have to look far. I went down to the desk once again and asked to be moved to another floor. I said it was clear that they had an infestation and asked if she ever knew of any problems. She said that she never had anyone complain before and that this is the first time she heard of anything like this at the hotel. She also acted as if she did not believe me and yelled for the maintenance man to go check it out before she moved me again. At this point you can imagine how happy I was with her less than apologetic demeanor, practically calling me a liar. I got upset and said I would accompany the maintenance man up there and then she once again asked rather rudely, Where are your keys? I said right here, she only held out her hand for me to give them to her. She once again swiped them and told the maintenance man she was putting me on the fourth floor in room 407, not even speaking to me directly. I went up with the man and he clearly saw what I did. He was very apologetic and tried to help us as best he could. He was the only shining gem in this ANT HILL. He walked in with my family and I to the new room to check it with me. We once again found more of the same little critters crawling around. He took us to another vacant room down the hall to find, you guessed it, more ants. We went into yet another room farther down the hall and at this point I was disgusted and extremely tired. I had driven all night and it was now around 5:30 am. We found one or two more ants in the room, but I decided to try to catch a few zz's anyway. He told us the manager and owner knew of the problem but did not want to spend the money on the exterminator. He told us that he just had this problem and everyone there knew of it, however, remember the clerk NEVER heard of it before. I took our luggage to the car as not to have any unwanted guests in them, and went off to sleep after trying to console my young son that nothing would hurt him. I was told I would have to talk to the manager the next day. She said, ohh you were the guy who walked out at first then decided to come back and stay with us. It took me a moment to figure out what she was trying to say, and then I realized that I did walk out to get my credit card so I could check in. She said to me, "With all due respect, you didn’t have to stay with us." I was appalled at this response. She told me in her words, "You in da south, you got to expect suga ants." I was also told that she just could not believe the night clerked acted like that, she said that she was her best employee. I was offered only half of my room rate back. The original rate was $89.00. This was unacceptable. I would not sign my receipt and am fighting this with my credit card company. I have never been more insulted in my life. I work in customer services, and have unfortunately seen some poor responses from other people that I end up fixing, but this one is by the far the worst. I am also writing to Best Western and letting them know how their good name is being degraded in this hotel. Hopefully something will be done. I will update with their response. **UPDATE** Unfortunately their response was nothing more than what I got.
