We had a wonderful time!!

My family spent three nights at the Pelican - I wish I would have stayed longer!!

The hotel was extremely comfortable. We had a two king bed oceanfront suite. The rooms were immaculate. I normally don't really like hotels but I felt completely at home here.

Pros: The huge comfy rooms, the beautiful view from our private balcony. I loved having a seperate living room! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The lazy river was fun, the hotel is right on the ocean. The food at the bar restaurant (can't remember the name) was great and not expensive. The AC was extremely silent which is something I love!!!

Cons: Valet parking at $12 plus tips (and we are the type of people that are in and out a lot) - although the service was very fast. The lazy river could have been cleaner.

Overall it was a wonderful experiance and I will certainly return to this wonderful property.

From start to finish we were very pleased with our stay. Our flight was early and our room wasn’t quite ready so Vincent the bellman, stored our things, showed us around, and gave the kids things to play with in the water while we waited. Because of our wait they upgraded us to a Double King Suite on the first floor. The location was great for the beach, the pool area was a bit small and crowded but served its purpose. One down point is some people would go down at 8 am, reserved their lounge chairs then casually eat breakfast and show up hours later to sit. If you did not plan on going out the pool before hand you were not going to get a seat, which was very inconvenient if you had kids, you had no place to watch them. Not the hotels fault, just the inconsiderateness of others. The lazy river was one of the key reasons we went, but could have used more frequent cleaning. The Front desk was very accommodating and Dominica was wonderful, always remembered our last name and greeted us with a smile. When ever we needed something they were on it! The taxi's are not that expensive to grab one and go to the shops.

Another main reason we chose this resort is that it prides itself as a non smoking hotel and we are non smokers. However, those who smoked didn't seem to care about the rules. There were times that the smell of cigarette smoke would seep through the air vents from someone smoking in the bathroom. The pungent smell was not welcoming and had to vacate several times to keep from getting terrible headaches and sinus issues. Nothing against other smokers, but have respect to those who are not, read the fine print and go else where.

We will definitely return

We are just finishing our stay at the Pelican Beach resort. We are very impressed with the physical aspects of the property as well as the professional, very very friendly staff. We are parents travelling with two children ages 9 & 11. We stayed in an oceanfront King Suite. The suite & property looked exactly like the pictures on the website. The houskeeping was terrific. Our package included two passes to the breakfast buffet, which worked out great ( a 14.95pp savings). The kids buffet was 5.95 each. It featured made to order omlettes and belgian waffles along with the usual assortment of breakfast meats, pancakes, cereal, fruit, breads etc.. The suite comes with a refrig & microwave. At the suggestion of the other posters on this site we stocked up on snacks like microwave popcorn & hot dogs. After our big breakfast, this worked out well for the afternoon. The food at the resort is a little on the costly side. ($7.00 hot dogs at the pool was more than a little over the top)

The resort had a nice pool and lazy river (no, despite the previous post, there were no dipers floating in it!!). It was clean, and the kids really enjoyed it. The beach was just a few steps away. The resort provides towels & chairs for both. The pool area is a bit shoehorned in, but since this is "off" season it was no problem. They ran short of towels a few times but restocked in no more than 15 min, just a minor hassle. There is a large veranda with many rocking chairs facing the beach, and soft rock/caribbean music playing. It was a nice place to take a break. The lobby was also comfortable, air-conditioned and they had board games to check out. They have computer stations with free internet & printing capabilities, as well as eternet connection & internet service from the room if you bring your laptop.

One downside was the 15.00/day parking charge, they should just include it in the hotel rate rather than irritate everyone with it. That being said, the staff was very responsive in retrieving our car & we felt great being welomed back by the valets upon our return.

One special thing during our stay was that we had the opporunity to watch a wedding (&rehearsal) take place on the beach. The Pelican resort seemed to have everything set up well, with a wedding coordinator directing the whole affair which from our perpective went off without a hitch (no pun inteneded :))

The hotel is located on A1A about two miles north of Las Olas, and there is a nice walkway that runs from the hotel along the beach. It was great for a walk or jog.

Overall our experience was very positive, we would definately stay here again.

The Pelican Grand was beautiful, however there are bad and goods things to be said. First, the good - the service inside the hotel was great, always helpful. The restaurant was great as was the pool bar, both have delicious food. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the view from our room was spectacular.

Now for the things that I was disappointed with - the entire facility is non-smoking. As a smoker, I respect the fact that there is no smoking on the property, however I feel that those who want to smoke should at least have an area with an ashtray.

One last thing, to the hotel's benefit and discredit. I booked my room through Expedia. I was guaranteed an oceanview room with a balcony. When I checked in, I had a street view and no balcony. 25% of the very last corner window had an oceanview. The hotel should be ashamed of themselves calling that room oceanview. I, of course, called the front desk and they moved me to a beautiful ocean room that was wonderful. The mistake was on the end of Expedia, that never should have guaranteed me a balcony, however the Pelican should not advertise that room as oceanview.

The good far outways the bad in my situation. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone, especially if you have children.

On first impressoins it was quite dissapointing walking into the Reception after seeing Pictures on Internet. Especially the Pool Area. The Rooms are really big and very nice. Breakfast is really nice except it gets really busy and sometimes you can have an hour wait. My main Dissapointment is teh Pool Area, the Lazy River is the Laziest I have ever seen. The water is dirty, you get 100's of Kids trying to knock you off your Rings and it is not relaxing in the Slightest. I think the Hotel made a mistake trying to do this, as it has also meant that they compromised on the main Pool as it is really small and there is hardly any room too sunbath, everyone is on top of each other. One day they were even shooting an advert in the Pool which meant that no guests could use the Pool all day, plus they must of made an extra effort to clean the pool that day as it was the first time I had seen the Bottom of it. For the money you are paying I dont think the facilities meet the requirements. The Pool staff are friendly but they dont start serving until about 11.30 - 12.00 you cant even get a drink in this time UNLESS you go to get it from the shop. Its Ok for a base but defo not for the Upmarket more Lower end.
