We are just finishing our stay at the Pelican Beach resort. We are very impressed with the physical aspects of the property as well as the professional, very very friendly staff. We are parents travelling with two children ages 9 & 11. We stayed in an oceanfront King Suite. The suite & property looked exactly like the pictures on the website. The houskeeping was terrific. Our package included two passes to the breakfast buffet, which worked out great ( a 14.95pp savings). The kids buffet was 5.95 each. It featured made to order omlettes and belgian waffles along with the usual assortment of breakfast meats, pancakes, cereal, fruit, breads etc.. The suite comes with a refrig & microwave. At the suggestion of the other posters on this site we stocked up on snacks like microwave popcorn & hot dogs. After our big breakfast, this worked out well for the afternoon. The food at the resort is a little on the costly side. ($7.00 hot dogs at the pool was more than a little over the top)
The resort had a nice pool and lazy river (no, despite the previous post, there were no dipers floating in it!!). It was clean, and the kids really enjoyed it. The beach was just a few steps away. The resort provides towels & chairs for both. The pool area is a bit shoehorned in, but since this is "off" season it was no problem. They ran short of towels a few times but restocked in no more than 15 min, just a minor hassle. There is a large veranda with many rocking chairs facing the beach, and soft rock/caribbean music playing. It was a nice place to take a break. The lobby was also comfortable, air-conditioned and they had board games to check out. They have computer stations with free internet & printing capabilities, as well as eternet connection & internet service from the room if you bring your laptop.
One downside was the 15.00/day parking charge, they should just include it in the hotel rate rather than irritate everyone with it. That being said, the staff was very responsive in retrieving our car & we felt great being welomed back by the valets upon our return.
One special thing during our stay was that we had the opporunity to watch a wedding (&rehearsal) take place on the beach. The Pelican resort seemed to have everything set up well, with a wedding coordinator directing the whole affair which from our perpective went off without a hitch (no pun inteneded :))
The hotel is located on A1A about two miles north of Las Olas, and there is a nice walkway that runs from the hotel along the beach. It was great for a walk or jog.
Overall our experience was very positive, we would definately stay here again.
