My husband and I recently returned from a stay at the Pelican Grand and were very pleased. The location is perfect. It is a couple of miles north of the "tourist" area and cruise ships so very quiet. It also gave us a virtually private beach. The hotel is very elegant, a Southern Plantation Style with large floral arrangements, wainscoting, orchids, large fans, and rocking chairs everywhere. There is a large back covered porch with a great ocean view which made is nice to watch the afternoon showers, drinking wine and rocking in the chairs. The rooms were tastefully decorated including a huge bed with a pillow top, extremely comfortable. We had a microwave and refrigerator so a trip to the grocery/liquor store saved us some money. The pool is a little small but we were really there for the beach. There is a little inter-tube river that the kids really enjoyed also. There is not a swimup bar but there are waitresses and the bar is right off the pool. The beach was fantastic. There are lounge chairs provided and you can rent an umbrella. There is a beach attendant that will assist you. There are no waiters at the beach but the hotel is 30 steps away. Bring snorkel gear. We saw several fish, a sting ray, and a barracuda right off the beach. There is also tons of coral and shells. The only draw back is the parking. Be prepared to pay $12/day because you have to valet. Also, if you are leaving at a peak time, be prepared to wait for your car. There are parking meters where you can pay for 3 hours at a time but they are diligent about ticketing ($25/ticket). There is an icecream store/cafe on sight, a must, and one very nice restaurant, and the bar serves food also. We received free breakfast tickets when we checked in which included the buffet. They sell time shares at the hotel but we were never approached and didn’t have to sit through a demonstration. Overall, we are extremely pleased with the hotel, the food, the amenities, the location, the beds, and the beach. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

We just spent a week, and thought the hotel was great. Never before have I encountered such a wonderful staff, who went the extra mile to serve us. The room was more than I had hoped for. The bed was THE most comfortable I had ever slept in. We were a bit disappointed that we had one king rather than two queens, but since the mattrress would have passed the wine glass test, it was not a problem. The panoramic view from our end unit room was great: city, canals, and ocean. Only a balcony would have made it better. The beach was just steps away from the back porch of the hotel. The porch with its many rocking chairs and overstuffed wicker was relaxing. We spent most of our days at the pool and lazy river...absolutely loved the lazy river! I just don't get the $12/day for valet parking. The valet staff were very courteous, but I grew tired of tipping.

  • Liked — pool area, lazy river, beach
  • Disliked — no balcony, $12/day valet parking

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend at the Pelican Grand and our experience was very disappointing. By reading the reviews on this site, I was expecting an enjoyable relaxing weekend. What we got was anything but relaxing. At first glance the hotel is very beautiful. The location is actually quite desirable...right on the beach (the beach turned out to be the only good thing about our stay here). However, the first issue with this hotel is that they force you to valet. If you are a guest at the hotel you are expected to pay $12 per vehicle per day. However, if you are a visitor you only have to pay $8. Someone tell me the rationale for that one. There are about 8 parking spaces out front that are metered parking that you are free to park in, but it will cost you almost $10 each day and you must pump quarters into the meter all day to keep from getting a ticket. A word to the wise, if you choose to use the metered spots, stay on top of the meter! The begin patrolling them at 8am, and they mean 8am. My husband got a $25 parking ticket at 8:10am. To top off the mandatory valet problem, checking out is utter chaos. It took a ridiculous amount of time for people to get their cars. And when your car was finally brought up, they parked other cars ahead of yours so you weren't able to move anyway. There are many other issues with this hotel other than the parking. We recieved vouchers for free breakfast each morning, but were unable to use them due to their breakfast serving policy. We called down to see when they serve breakfast until. We were told 12, but when we went downstairs at 11:30 we were told we couldn't use our vouchers because after 11:30 they only have buffet. The following day we attempted to use our vouchers again only to be refused because they were only serving breakfast buffet for Father's Day. The pool was incredibly warm as was the lazy river. The rooms were decorated nicely, but the bed left much to be desired. The sheets used in this hotel are very bizarre. At first we thought it was some sort of rubber or plastic covering underneath the sheet to prevent staining, but when we went to remove it we noticed it was actually part of the sheet. I felt like you were sleeping on crunchy tissue paper. The sheets also had a very worn feeling to them (like an old t shirt that gets the little balled pieces of cotton all over it). The room was clean for the most part, but the back of the bathroom door had strange splatters on it. I didn't even want to hazard a guess as to what that could have been. We have stayed at many beach resorts in Florida, since we are residents here, but this was by far the worst we have ever stayed in. They are trying to sell the rooms as timeshares or condos for about $400K. I didn't even think they were worth the $1000 we spent on our weekend! We will certainly never be returning to this resort.

What a great hotel! It is very clean and lovely. The people were nice and the vallet are wonderful, very friendly and quick! The hotel just has such a great charm the way its decorated. The lazy river and pool were nice and the hotel is right on a private like beach. It also has a wrap around porch w/ rocking chairs. It is away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to drive.

We stayed at the resort from May 30 - June 3, 2007. I'll sum it up by saying our stay was simply fantastic. Before booking our trip to the Pelican Grand Beach Resort, I read many, many reviews posted on this Web site.

My husband, our three-year-old son and I were very impressed with everything. We arrived early (11 am-ish) and our room was already ready for us. I had called ahead and mentioned that we would be arriving early. I did not expect our room to be ready when we arrived but that we'd have to wait a bit - this was not the case. It was so nice to be able to get into our room right away after having just flown for the first time with our three-year-old.

Our room was perfect - we stayed in a queen suite on the 7th floor - the separation between the 2 rooms was excellent for traveling with a toddler. One room had 2 queen beds, TV, desk and chair. The other room had 2 sofas - one pulled out into a bed - a tv, frig (not a tiny one but a good-sized one), microwave, table and 2 chairs and door to our balcony which looked out over the ocean. The rooms were divided by a wall of windows and a door. The windows had blinds, so at night, we could put our son to sleep in the "bedroom" and we could stay up in the "living room".

We used room service quite a bit and the service was excellent - no long waits and the room service attendants were very pleasant. My husband and I ordered 2 non-alcoholic drinks with our dinner one evening and the staff, knowing we had a child with us, sent up an extra straw for him. That says alot to us. We were highly satisfied with the housekeeping of our room. Our housekeeper, Ramona, was very friendly when we happened to be in the room when she came. And the view from the balcony was absolutely fantastic - beautiful sunrises.

I tend to have trouble sleeping when we are away from home but the beds/mattresses in the room were so comfortable that I had no problem sleeping at all (not even on the first night).

We enjoyed having access to the beach directly from our hotel. It's important to know that there is no life guard at the beach. We saw some teenagers have real trouble getting back into shore (rip currents were strong that day). Folks just need to be smart and careful.

I think the best feature was the Lazy River. We spent quite a bit of time tubing. The pool staff were very friendly. The pool was perfect for a non-swimming toddler. My son could walk right in as far as he (or I) felt comfortable.

David, the concierge, was also very helpful - he arranged for a car rental for us, provided a screwdriver when we needed to fix a toy :-), and gave us suggestions on what to do on a rainy morning.

We plan to return to the Pelican Grand Beach Resort and highly recommend it.
