We stayed at the resort from May 30 - June 3, 2007. I'll sum it up by saying our stay was simply fantastic. Before booking our trip to the Pelican Grand Beach Resort, I read many, many reviews posted on this Web site.
My husband, our three-year-old son and I were very impressed with everything. We arrived early (11 am-ish) and our room was already ready for us. I had called ahead and mentioned that we would be arriving early. I did not expect our room to be ready when we arrived but that we'd have to wait a bit - this was not the case. It was so nice to be able to get into our room right away after having just flown for the first time with our three-year-old.
Our room was perfect - we stayed in a queen suite on the 7th floor - the separation between the 2 rooms was excellent for traveling with a toddler. One room had 2 queen beds, TV, desk and chair. The other room had 2 sofas - one pulled out into a bed - a tv, frig (not a tiny one but a good-sized one), microwave, table and 2 chairs and door to our balcony which looked out over the ocean. The rooms were divided by a wall of windows and a door. The windows had blinds, so at night, we could put our son to sleep in the "bedroom" and we could stay up in the "living room".
We used room service quite a bit and the service was excellent - no long waits and the room service attendants were very pleasant. My husband and I ordered 2 non-alcoholic drinks with our dinner one evening and the staff, knowing we had a child with us, sent up an extra straw for him. That says alot to us. We were highly satisfied with the housekeeping of our room. Our housekeeper, Ramona, was very friendly when we happened to be in the room when she came. And the view from the balcony was absolutely fantastic - beautiful sunrises.
I tend to have trouble sleeping when we are away from home but the beds/mattresses in the room were so comfortable that I had no problem sleeping at all (not even on the first night).
We enjoyed having access to the beach directly from our hotel. It's important to know that there is no life guard at the beach. We saw some teenagers have real trouble getting back into shore (rip currents were strong that day). Folks just need to be smart and careful.
I think the best feature was the Lazy River. We spent quite a bit of time tubing. The pool staff were very friendly. The pool was perfect for a non-swimming toddler. My son could walk right in as far as he (or I) felt comfortable.
David, the concierge, was also very helpful - he arranged for a car rental for us, provided a screwdriver when we needed to fix a toy :-), and gave us suggestions on what to do on a rainy morning.
We plan to return to the Pelican Grand Beach Resort and highly recommend it.
