My husband & I recently returned from a lovely weekend away at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort. After reading many reviews on line & looking thru the pictures, it was just as we had hoped it would be & we felt like nothing was misled. (although be careful when booking vacation packages thru travel sites such as expedia, Travelocity, etc... I ended up finding my own airfare & booking the hotel directly (romance package) for a little less than what was advertised on the various travel search engines AND the cancellation policies were more reasonable. ) The hotel was lovely, quaint & clean, the staff was hard working & very friendly. Our room/suite was larger than most of the other big name hotels charging the same price ($474/nte). We didn't bring the kids, but could have easily with the way the room was laid out. The only downside to the resort we found was the pool area was a little small. The chaise lounges filled up quickly & were crammed so close together it made it difficult to get in & out of them. Of course we understood & appreciated the resort's effort to accommodate as many guest as possible. Fortunately we had great weather, so we continued onto the beach where there were plenty of chaise lounges available. The lazy river was fun.
We followed advice from other traveler’s review & took the water taxi as means of transportation to dinner one night ($11 per person to ride all day long). What an unexpected, pleasant surprise that was. It was a nice evening, so we walked (1 mile?) from our hotel to Shooters Cafe which is the first stop on the route. (Departs 30 minutes after the hour at this stop) NOTE: Rather than walk down A1A, we walked thru the quiet residential street in between A1A & the ocean. We didn't time it, but if I had to guess it was maybe a 20-30 min. pleasant, walk. From Shooters Cafe (stop 1) to stop no. 9, which was where we got off to have dinner, it took about an hour from Stop 1 - Stop 9. (add another 20 minutes if you go all the way to Stop 11 (River walk). It goes by quickly however, as the crew is quite entertaining giving fun tidbits of info about the yachts & mansion we saw along the way. After dinner we caught the outgoing water taxi on the way home which took us thru stops 10 & 11(River walk that looked like fun) before turning back to reverse the route. When we returned to Shooters (stop 1) it was late so we opted for a taxi back to the hotel ($5.00).
Another nice compliment to the resort was we arrived at the hotel early Friday morning (10 am). To our surprise our room was ready. (We have never had that happen) so check-in was very smooth. We noticed Sunday as we were checking out; it seemed to be a much busier day at the hotel.
We would recommend this resort to others.
