My husband & I recently returned from a lovely weekend away at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort. After reading many reviews on line & looking thru the pictures, it was just as we had hoped it would be & we felt like nothing was misled. (although be careful when booking vacation packages thru travel sites such as expedia, Travelocity, etc... I ended up finding my own airfare & booking the hotel directly (romance package) for a little less than what was advertised on the various travel search engines AND the cancellation policies were more reasonable. ) The hotel was lovely, quaint & clean, the staff was hard working & very friendly. Our room/suite was larger than most of the other big name hotels charging the same price ($474/nte). We didn't bring the kids, but could have easily with the way the room was laid out. The only downside to the resort we found was the pool area was a little small. The chaise lounges filled up quickly & were crammed so close together it made it difficult to get in & out of them. Of course we understood & appreciated the resort's effort to accommodate as many guest as possible. Fortunately we had great weather, so we continued onto the beach where there were plenty of chaise lounges available. The lazy river was fun.
We followed advice from other traveler’s review & took the water taxi as means of transportation to dinner one night ($11 per person to ride all day long). What an unexpected, pleasant surprise that was. It was a nice evening, so we walked (1 mile?) from our hotel to Shooters Cafe which is the first stop on the route. (Departs 30 minutes after the hour at this stop) NOTE: Rather than walk down A1A, we walked thru the quiet residential street in between A1A & the ocean. We didn't time it, but if I had to guess it was maybe a 20-30 min. pleasant, walk. From Shooters Cafe (stop 1) to stop no. 9, which was where we got off to have dinner, it took about an hour from Stop 1 - Stop 9. (add another 20 minutes if you go all the way to Stop 11 (River walk). It goes by quickly however, as the crew is quite entertaining giving fun tidbits of info about the yachts & mansion we saw along the way. After dinner we caught the outgoing water taxi on the way home which took us thru stops 10 & 11(River walk that looked like fun) before turning back to reverse the route. When we returned to Shooters (stop 1) it was late so we opted for a taxi back to the hotel ($5.00).
Another nice compliment to the resort was we arrived at the hotel early Friday morning (10 am). To our surprise our room was ready. (We have never had that happen) so check-in was very smooth. We noticed Sunday as we were checking out; it seemed to be a much busier day at the hotel.
We would recommend this resort to others.

I picked this hotel based on reviews in TripAdvisor. Location is great, porch is nice, staff was generally helpful. The downside is that the construction is rather poor - leaks from door onto balcony (after rain), wet area on wall inside room, poor lighting, recessed fixture falling down. The good news is that the third room we were put in (after problems with others) had a water bed; neat experience, no extra charge. Best thing about hotel is wonderful view of the Atlantic! Location does require a car, but valet staff is very quick and pleasant.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this place. upon reading earlier reviews, I got a so-so feeling about the Pelican Beach Resort. But I was amazed when we got to our room. Everything looked new from the furniture to the paint. all the rooms face the ocean and they were all huge! I don't know the true dimensions but I would guess roughly 15 feet wide and at least 50 feet long plus a lanai. Our ("one-bedroom") room had two king sized beds in the main area. This was separated by french doors from the "living room" where there was a love seat, recliner, table, tv, fridge and nuker. Beyond that was the lanai looking down on the beach. Unfortunately, we were on an (south) end unit that overlooks their "event tent". That was troublesome since they don't enforce quiet hours until 11pm. The wedding couple had some very loud friends.

The buffet breakfast was good-- nothing to write home about but definitely not bad (bacon crispy, eggs fluffy, plenty of fruit, etc).

The lazy river was a god-send for our kids (age 1 and 3)! They loved it and since the water was warm, we were able to float with them without getting cold. The pool was good too and I liked the gradual entry from 1 inch deep to 6 feet or so at the other end. It was a bit odd to walk thru the bar to get to the pool. That's not the only way, but the most convenient as you leave the elevators to get to the pool. Unfortunately, the pool is on the wrong side of the hotel. So, the building shades the pool from noon til 3pm.

The resort's tagline is "nothing between you and the beach". Aside from a 15 foot strip of grass, they're right on. So when the shade hits the pool, just head for the beach where they even have a drink service-- very important!

Nutshell: big, clean rooms, good service, nice amenities, and close to the beach.

  • Liked — big, clean rooms and 20 feet from the sand
  • Disliked — pool shaded during the day

Having stayed in South Beach for 2 nights we decided to spend out last night in Fort Lauderdale. We drove up and just went into a few hotels to ask the price. We loved this hotel immediately. After a friendly chat with the two ladies on reception we were told we would be upgraded to a very nice room. We were. We stayed in an ocean view suite on the third floor, a beautiful room. We were allowed an early check in, and the following day, when we were flying that evening, they stored our luggage for us, and we were allowed to stay by the pool for as long as we wanted.
Positives: beautiful room, friendly and helpful staff, really good food and drinks all at very reasonable prices, lovely pool and lazy river, right on the beach with free beach loungers ($15 for an beach umbrella), bar, restaurant with nice outside terrace eating.
Negatives: small inside bar.no bar around the pool although drinks are brought to you, have to drive to see anything as there is nothing in walking distance.

We stayed at this resort for the second time in January and were just as pleased this time around. The rooms are well appointed, immaculate and the views from our room were lovely. The pool, while not as luxurious as some resorts, was better than average and the "Lazy River" is a fun option. The beach was always clean with ample chairs for lounging. We found the staff able to answer most questions and the conciege helpful. I wouldn't stay here without a car though, since most dining off site isn't within walking distance. Our car was always ready within minutes of our calling for it. Yes, you pay a daily parking fee and tips are appreciated but obviously their parking is limited. While we never dined at the hotel, we did have breakfast at the Emporium. It offers a decent variety of serve yourself breakfast items and the cashier, Ebony, is friendly and helpful. We have previously stayed at the Marriott Harbor Beach when visiting FLL and feel that this hotel, with the exception of the pool, is nicer.
