My husband and I stayed at the Pelican Beach Resort for a week and it was exactly what we were looking for! It was our honeymoon and we just wanted to relax on a beach and enjoy the scenery. It was by far the best hotel resort on the Fort Lauderdale strip. It was clean and welcoming; the staff was very friendly and helpful. Pictures on their website are very accurate and not enhanced at all. The sand on the beach was not overly special, but the water was clear and beautiful. We had a large private balcony overlooking the ocean and that was enjoyable; and worth the extra money! The bed was soooo comfortable!!! Our room was kept clean; as soon as we left there would be someone coming by to clean up after us. They had a great lazy river and a huge pool. We didn't encounter a lot of children which was nice for us, but I could definitely see why families would enjoy it. The restaurant within the hotel served delicious food. Everyone we spoke to there was having a great time. It was really easy to vacation there. We highly recommend it.

We stayed two nights in a king suite / oceanview (Room 322) July 30/31.

From the time you walk in- it is so pleasantly designed- so professionally handled. I kept saying to myself, I can't believe this is a best western.

Our room was magnificent-- large spacious beautiful room- that wonderful ocean sound right off your balcony.

Very neat and clean!

Go and eat at Shooters down the street a few blocks(the Concierge will give you directions- we walked the first night)- wow was it ever good- and very reasonably priced considering some other options nearby.

  • Liked — The cleanliness! Atmosphere!
  • Disliked — Having to valet park- but can't be helped.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Look on their website for 'specials" - we stayed two nights in a suite for only 199/nt

I'm not exactly sure why, but I didn't love this hotel. The rooms were clean and updated, the view from the 10th floor was wonderful, and the staff was pleasant, but I didn't feel comfortable there. I think maybe because it didn't fit my notion of a laid back beach hotel. Other than that, there were a few specific items that bothered us: My husband called the bed the "bedwetters" bed because it had a crackley plastic mattress liner; the lazy river closed at 5:00 (tough to explain to the kids when we checked in at 6:00): expensive valet parking; too much seaweed on the beach; and no casual place to eat dinner if you don't want to or don't have time to change out of swimsuits. I don't want to talk others out of staying at this hotel, it just wasn't for us.

Just came back from a great week at Pelican Beach. Booked a one bedroom suite which worked out well for the five of us (two nine year olds and 12 year old) as it had a small fridge, microwave and and a TV in each room. The balcony view was spectacular and we were entertained by several distant lightning storms out over the ocean at night.Great staff all around and we did not encounter the damp rooms spoke of in an earlier review. I frankly don't think you will ever have a bone dry room in Florida in the summer, there is just too much humidity. Excellent, clean beach and be sure to take your sandals to the beach as the sand was unbelievably hot. If you decide to take a stroll on the beach at night I would recommend walking north and not south as the public beach section starts about 200 yards south and there were some characters around not necessarily for family viewing. As a side note the resort has dropped the Best Western name as it is currently upgrading the resort to offer a mix of condos and holiday facilities.

  • Liked — Location on beach, facilities and rooms
  • Disliked — lack of self parking
  • Tips/Secrets: — bring your food and booze to save some cash as rooms have fridge and microwave

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, and it was so peaceful! The entire staff went out of their way to make sure you as the guest was comfortable and satisfied. I was there for a personal vacation, rest and relaxation, and that was what I got. I had a one bedroom, there was a separate sitting area, and a balcony that faced the beautiful ocean on the 9th floor. I would recommend this hotel for anyone that is planning a getaway vacation!
