Stayed here based on TripAdvisor ratings and I must say, I absolutely loved this hotel, I feel like we found a hidden gem in South Florida here. TripAdvisor is 2 for 2 with my last 2 vacations – I’m starting to believe in this. I was nervous about a Best Western, as I prefer upscale accomodations. This hotel was upscale, but not stuffy, which I really liked. The public areas are just gorgeous. The patio overlooking the beach was great and relaxing. The pool is excellent and the lazy river is a unique touch. The great thing about this hotel is the location, it is on the beach side of A1A, no tunnles or walkways to the sand like many hotels need, just a couple of steps down from the patio to the sand and the Atlantic Ocean. Beach has a very natural feel to it and the water was pleasant, and not too rough. There was some sea weed washed up on the beach, and I would have preferred they raked the beach each day, but they might not be able to due to enviromental rules or concerns. Also the hotel is at the North end of Ft. Lauderale, which we liked, away from the crowds and busy area. If you are looking for an active beach scene or nightlife, you may want to look elsewhere.

The rooms are extremely comfortable, great sized suite, very comfortable beds, very clean. Again, an upscale feel is felt in the rooms. The one exception would be the bathrooms, just basic white tile and no nice toiletries just shower gel and shampoo in a dispenser on the wall. The ice cream parlor/snack shop is handy, and we ate breakfast at the restaurant one day, it was a very nice buffet spread, great omelete and waffle station and it was reasonably priced. Tried to go to the restaurant once for lunch, but got snooty service from the hostess and told we would have to wait, while many tables were empty – so we went to the tables outside the bar and had a nice lunch al fresco by the pool. Not sure what the deal was with the hostess – she was the only rude staff member we encountered. Everyone else was super nice and helpful. Concierge recommended a nice Italian restaurant that we enjoyed and hit the mark with the “monkey jungle” park in South Miami, which was a bit of a drive but really unique and fun once we told her about plans to go to the zoo to see monkeys.

Would definitely stay here again, and plan to look here first for any stay in South Florida.

Nobody goes on vacation to be constantly stressed and aggravated and pay 400 dollars a day in the process.I just returned from my second stay at the Pelican and the service was no better this time.(First time was last June)There seems to be a conspiracy aomongst the front desk people to be as indifferrent and hostile as possible, they make you wait while they converse with each other, no eye contact until they're darn ready. No explanations for certain policies ie no stamps, no restaurant reccomendations, no WIFI. Just a shrug of the shoulders, "That's just the way we do things" Not a helpful, caring one in the bunch. If you order lunch to go in the restaurant expect to wait, if the waitess isn't going to get a tip, she ain't hurrying.Don't even ask about housekeeping--it's abysmal.

The rooms are huge and the beach is great, (umbrellas are 15 bucks a day) I won't be hurrying back.

The hotel itself is lovely, the rooms sizable and a clean beach right out front. The pictures you see on the internet are accurate which was surprising. However, the front desk service leaves a bit to be desired. They have a ridiculous 3pm check-in time which is very bad for anyone traveling from another time zone. We asked several times upon our arrival at noon when a room would be ready, explaining how tired we were. The front desk staff could care less and we waited the full three hours. It was a disappointment to be in such and lovely (and expensive) hotel with no energy to enjoy it.
There are no doors into the main part of the bathroom in their suites and only one sink, which is a problem when having several people in the room. There are absolutely no porchlights over their absolutely outstanding decks/veranda's so the wonderful night time weather and moon on the water are prohibitive unless you want to stumble around in the dark. The pool is very small and closes at 5pm! After a day looking around you'd think they'd realize folks would love to cool off in the pool. Guess not.
The valet service is slow and surly, plus they tend to simply whisk it away before asking if you would like your bags first. Watch out!
The food is good but overpriced for the quantity. The waiters were average. The conceirge was helpful however, she went above and beyond for us. All in all, a lovely, clean hotel, but with no heart.

This is a newer hotel right on the beach just north of Sunset Blvd. They have a nice veranda for lazing around the day, but by mid afternoon the sun is past, and with wind, it can be a bit cool. The rooms are sizeable, all with good views, but our bathroom kept getting a trail of ants, even though maintenance was supposed to take care of the problem.

We were there over a busy weekend, and by Friday the place was packed and there were soooo many kids! The pool area was just overrun with children and parents chasing after them. We left our kids at home with the grandparents and were looking for a romantic getaway, which was severely hampered by all the hub-bub. So, while it is a nice resort for a family, not so nice for a couple.

The one other annoying aspect was the parking situation. They have valet parking only. So, although we would call ahead to get our car, we always wound up waiting 10 minutes or so. Also, if you come and go, you are always feeling obliged to tip the valet guys, but the hotel charges $12/day for parking, and then if you go out 2-3times a day at $1 per tip per in and $1 out it starts to add up, and is just a bit ridiculous.

So, while the place is certainly nice, and in a good location, and the beach is lovely, I've given you a head's up on what some of the negatives are. Have fun!

This hotel was beautiful and the service we had was very good. Great location directly on the beach unlike many other Fort Lauderdale hotels. Very clean rooms and great sitting rooms off of the main bedroom with wonderful ocean view. The only negatives we had was that the comfort of the bed could be improved as it was not as "cushy" as some other hotels and the housekeeping department was quite noisy outside the room while making their rounds. However, sitting on the beautiful veranda, having a nice breakfast while overlooking the ocean made up for this. The food in the hotel restaurant was also very good and the Sunday brunch was a real treat. We have stayed at many hotels including several in this area and will only book here from now on.
