FT. LAUDERDALE FLA. PELICAN BEACH RESORT from douglas ga. "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL & WELL APPOINTED HOTEL ON THE BEACH."... My husband, myself & two of our grandchildern stayed at the "PBR" in May, we stayed four days,& loved every moment of it. the rooms were very comfortable. mattress was so comfortable, we ordered one & and love it. The view of the ocean & down the beach was breathtaking. The restauant & ice cream parlour was also a frequent stop. The childern loved the lazy river & pool. You don't have to drive anywhere if you don't want to, you can catch the city bus right across the street,& and go to the Galleria Mall & Los Olas shopping area, the River Queen etc.

Let me start with something nice. The views are beautiful, the rooms are well maintained and very nice, the hotel is gorgeous, the pool area is great. But beauty is only skin deep. We only stayed 1 night with Pelican Beach and we have been treated with extreme rudeness from some of the staff (including a front desk manager). Our early check in request was ignored and we waited for almost 4 hours for "our" room to be cleaned. We had expected to wait and had no problem with this but were told it could become available at any time. So every time we checked back with the front desk, we were treated rudely as if we were inconviencing them. Finally, we got into our room and were showed great courtesy by the bellman, who showed us around the room and told us the front desk could recommend some restaurants in the area. We called the concierge and were re-routed to the front desk, where they told us they did not know what restaurants were open (since the hurricane had hit a couple of weeks ago), not everyone has power back. We asked if they could find out and they wanted to know how they would do that. Then we were re-routed to the front desk manager who continued to be extrememly rude and assumed we were calling to switch hotels/rooms and didn't want to give us any information. We were appalled at the staff's lack of courtiness as well as customer service. An A+ to the bellman who went above and beyond his duties. There are many hotels in the Ft. Lauderdale area and we suggest you stay elsewhere.

We stayed at Pelican Beach in March and loved the hotel, the people, the service and the feeling of the hotel! So it was our first choice again in October and the stay was equally as pleasant! It has such a southern charm to it with the colors, the interior design and especially the porch with the rocking chairs! What a wonderful place to relax at night - have a drink, rock in the chair, feel the warm ocean breezes, listen to the roar of the ocean and soak in the beauty of the moon on the water. The food was great - try the Asian salad for lunch!! Looking forward to staying there again until our condo is finished! We highly recommend a stay at the Pelican Beach!!!!!

I visited this hotel after a week’s stay at The National in Miami Beach. I booked this hotel based upon the reviews within this web site. The hotel is very new and the most impressive 'Best Western' hotel that I have ever seen.
My room was on the 6th floor. Initially I was allocated a room that over-looked the road at the rear of the hotel. After requesting an upgrade ($25 extra per day) I was moved to a suite which overlooked the ocean. The suite included a very spacious bedroom, bathroom and sitting room area with a balcony. The room was spotless and cleaned every day. It also included 2 TVs, 2 double beds, a radio, fridge and microwave. The choice of decor was not as trendy as the contemporary style you will find within Miami as the hotel was designed to be a typical Floridian themed accommodation. The food at the hotel was of a very high standard and I ate there every day. Unfortunately, the choice was very limited and the menu never changed. The hotel also included a lovely ice cream parlour where you could buy ice cream, newspapers, magazines, crisps and sweets. Next to the reception was also an area that provided FREE internet access. This was really good and I used it daily.
The pool area was very clean. As the pool is right on the beach it is very windy which means that you cannot sit underneath an umbrella without it blowing away! Due to this there was very little shade for hot days and young children. The pool itself comprised of a normal sized pool (not very deep) and also a lazy river. The kids loved the lazy river as the hotel provided inflatable rings to play with. The pool area was also supervised with two full time lifeguards. Towels were also provided free of charge.
The hotel is literally right on the beach which means no long walk if you want to sit near the ocean. Again beds and towels are provided by the hotel.

My only concerns about the hotel are:
1. Location - this hotel was based within a very residential area of Fort Lauderdale. Each day I needed a car, taxi or bus ride to eat out or shop. This is because the majority of restaurants are either within Las Olas, The Galleria or the Beach Front. I felt very out of the way!
2. Staff Attitude - The majority of staff within the hotel were lovely and provided first class customer service. However one member of staff on reception was very unfriendly and did not provide very good customer service when I needed assistance with local information and extending my check out time. I felt she really let down the reputation of hotel.
Although I had a very pleasant stay at Fort Lauderdale I do not think I would stop at the Pelican Beach again due to its location. Whilst out and about I noticed that the W Hotel chain are building a new hotel nearer to the centre. I also visited the Atlantic Hotel, which was more centrally located and very impressive.
I would recommend this hotel to guests who have children or who do mind being away from the centre of Fort Lauderdale.

My husband and I just got back from a wonderful stay at the Pelican Beach Resort. We will definitely be going back. The room was beautiful, clean, and very large. We had a gorgeous bay window facing the ocean. The atmosphere was laid back, and the staff was helpful, prompt, and professional.

We originally booked our trip on Expedia, then I called ahead to request a wheelchair accessible room since Expedia doesn't have that capability on their website. The representative was very helpful and made the change for us, which ended up upgrading us to an oceanfront room with no additional charge. The bathroom was large and easy for my husband to manuever in; however, the bench in the shower was a little too far from the hand held shower, and the toilet was a little low which made transferring difficult for him. However, we were so happy with the rest of our stay that it made little difference.

We weren't too crazy about the valet parking, but we never had to wait very long for our car. It would be nice if we didn't have to pay for that service, but overall it was a terrific vacation.
