We arrived the day after Katrina, and the place was still immaculate! The beach, the pool, the great lazy rocking chairs overlooking the Atlantic, are even better than the photos. It's a laid back atmosphere, and you have to try the chocolate chip mint ice cream in the new parlor. Best ice cream in Florida! The room, is the size of a small apartment, very large and relaxed. The bathroom is huge as well, the ceiling fan above the king size iron bed is so inviting. And the bed, oh my, a pillow top that simply is the best bed ever! Did I mention the balcony or the fact that we were complimentary bumped up to a corner room with spectacular views from the 3 sided bay style windows? The room colors and decor, high ceilings, free high speed internet, refrigerator, microwave, complimentary coffee, the list just keeps going, are clean and new For the price, this is the nicest on the beach, and, the beach is just out the door. When we go back to south Florida, we will stay here!

My best friend and I just returned from a long "girl's weekend" away from our families and children. We had an absolute wonderful time at Pelican Beach Reesort. It was beautiful. It was clean. It was huge and everyone was helpful and friendly. When we arrived, we were very early but our suite was ready, we went right up and got ready for the beach. We were overwhelmed by the beauty, the decor and the cleaniless of the hotel and our room. The view from the 7th floor is breathtaking and we have a lot of photos to show that. The chairs were comfortable and we found the pool staff and everyone else very helpful. We enjoyed our lunches and iced tea by the pool each afternoon at 11:30, it was refreshing and the staff was wonderful. I just can't say enough about how wonderful they were. They recommended to go to Aruba in Lauderdale by the Sea and it was a blast. It has wonderful food, music and drinks. On Fridays, that is the night to go. We went to Las Olas on the beachfront and not Riverfront but we ate at Trina's...very nice...expensive but worth it. We are already planning out weekend trip for next year, if not sooner. We loved the Pelcian Beach Resort and I wish I was there now.

We stayed at the Pelican Beach from July 22-27, 2005. We could not have had a better stay. The front desk was always helpful and we never waited for the valet. My 6 year old son loved the lazy river and we did too. It is not the biggest but it does the job. I used a noodle to float. That worked better than the tubes. The noodles were provided for free. They also had sand toys for my son to use at the beach for free. We did not have the smoking problem that some others found. We are non-smokers and I believe that the hotel cannot stop people from smoking on the beach. We had to sign an agreement about the fine if caught smoking on the property. The problem is the smokers who are smoking should have more respect and not throw their butts in the sand.
The pool and lazy river were busy on Saturday but on the other days there were not many people using it. There was a high school reunion going on that weekend and they had a party on the roof top. We never were bothered by it or the people. As a matter of fact I went to the top to check things out and boy what a view from here. It's really a cool place to have a reception of any kind.
We had a King Room/Suite. What a beautiful room! My 6 yr old slept in the pullout chair bed. I would not recommend this chair for anyone older than a young teen. I guess it depends on their size. I as an adult would not find it comfortable to sleep in. My son thought it was cool. The king bed was great. My husband is 6'4" and whenever we can get a king bed we try to make it work.
We only ate at the hotel three times over our 5 day stay. It is kind of expensive but we enjoyed our dinner on the balconey of the restaurant and we also had breakfast one morning. Our other meal was just a late night quick meal in the bar which also was good. They give out "free" popcorn in the late afternoons which was a nice touch. My son frequented the ice cream parlor each day. When we were there it was open until 11:oopm. I will recommend a great restaurant right on Sunrise Blvd. not far from the hotel. It is called Il Molino and what a wonderful Italian Restaurant. I would definately go again and I am sorry I didn't discover it earlier in our stay.
Overall we had a relaxing time. The hotel does not have everything a typical resort may have. But it was clean, quite and right on the beach. The only thing I would say negative was it does not have a hot tub. I would have enjoyed relaxing in one in the evening. But all in all I would definately come back.

Although the Pelican Beach Resort is beautiful and the rooms are well appointed, The guest service was by far sub standard.
Upon our arrival we met HOURI at the front desk. Needless to say she in no way shape or form belongs in customer service...unless it involves collections, harassing consumers to pay their debts.
We have stayed at hotels around the world and have never received such terrible customer service.
The only nice part of our stay were the gentlemen in valet, the bar staff and houskeeping...they were great!
Also the hotel is 100% non-smoking...Fine. However, they would direct you to an offsite location that was not conducive to smoking unless of course you wanted to dispose of ashes and butts on the ground or on the beach!
Even the managers on duty were not very congenial.
If I were the owner of this multi-million dollar luxury hotel I would fire all of my H.R. personell and all of the front desk staff. What an embarassament for the investors of such a fine property.
Needless to say Pelican Beach Resort will not be on our list or any friends, family, distant relatives, etc. as a place for vacation.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey A. Clay

I made reservations at the Pelican Bay Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale one month in advance. I specifically asked them if they were under any type of construction and was told NO. We arrived on July 27th at about 4:00. We were able to immediately check into our room (which was very pretty and clean). But the hotel was under construction! They hammered, sawed, drilled until 6:00 pm and then began it all again the next day at 8:00 am. They also make a huge big deal about being a 100% non smoking place, but their private beach is littered with cigarette butts. It was disguisting. All the smokers stood at the bottom of the steps to the beach smoking away. You couldn't get back to your hotel room without having to go into their smoke cloud. It was truly a joke. Maybe they ought to let people smoke outside and provide ashtrays for them and they would not be littering the beach. Also they make a big deal about being the only hotel with a lazy river. Well, it was broken. They didn't tell me that either when making reservations. When I told the front desk about the construction and the beach they acted as if it was news to them. We stayed that one night and checked out the next morning. We didn't know where we were going to go, but we ended up in Lauderdale by the Sea at the Sea Lord. It had some problems too, but at least it wasn't under construction! Pelical Beach Resort overrates itself. It's not that great.
