We stayed at the Pelican Beach from July 22-27, 2005. We could not have had a better stay. The front desk was always helpful and we never waited for the valet. My 6 year old son loved the lazy river and we did too. It is not the biggest but it does the job. I used a noodle to float. That worked better than the tubes. The noodles were provided for free. They also had sand toys for my son to use at the beach for free. We did not have the smoking problem that some others found. We are non-smokers and I believe that the hotel cannot stop people from smoking on the beach. We had to sign an agreement about the fine if caught smoking on the property. The problem is the smokers who are smoking should have more respect and not throw their butts in the sand.
The pool and lazy river were busy on Saturday but on the other days there were not many people using it. There was a high school reunion going on that weekend and they had a party on the roof top. We never were bothered by it or the people. As a matter of fact I went to the top to check things out and boy what a view from here. It's really a cool place to have a reception of any kind.
We had a King Room/Suite. What a beautiful room! My 6 yr old slept in the pullout chair bed. I would not recommend this chair for anyone older than a young teen. I guess it depends on their size. I as an adult would not find it comfortable to sleep in. My son thought it was cool. The king bed was great. My husband is 6'4" and whenever we can get a king bed we try to make it work.
We only ate at the hotel three times over our 5 day stay. It is kind of expensive but we enjoyed our dinner on the balconey of the restaurant and we also had breakfast one morning. Our other meal was just a late night quick meal in the bar which also was good. They give out "free" popcorn in the late afternoons which was a nice touch. My son frequented the ice cream parlor each day. When we were there it was open until 11:oopm. I will recommend a great restaurant right on Sunrise Blvd. not far from the hotel. It is called Il Molino and what a wonderful Italian Restaurant. I would definately go again and I am sorry I didn't discover it earlier in our stay.
Overall we had a relaxing time. The hotel does not have everything a typical resort may have. But it was clean, quite and right on the beach. The only thing I would say negative was it does not have a hot tub. I would have enjoyed relaxing in one in the evening. But all in all I would definately come back.
