I had the opportunity to stay in Fort Lauderdale twice in the past 6 months, and I'm very glad we did it right the second time with the Pelican Beach Resort.
The first time we went down, we didn't realize that the majority of hotels in Fort Lauderdale are not actually on the beach. We stayed at the Yankee Trader the first time down and were really disappointed in that hotel. This time going down, we knew we wanted to be on the beach and it was a decision between PBR and the Marriott. After reading both hotel reviews, PBR seemed like a better choice. If you take a look at some of the photos I've posted, I think you'll see we were happy with the decision (these are views from our balcony - we were upgraded from a city view to an oceanfront suite. SWEET is the appropriate word!)
We have stayed at some nice hotels, traveled to Hawaii for a honeymoon and the views from our balcony were among the best we've seen. The patio in the back of the hotel as well as the pool area deserve kudos too. Really beautiful.
Rooms were spacious, and one thing I liked about the bathroom was that the shower curtain rod was curved - it sounds like such a minor detail, but it felt as though you had tons of room in the shower/bath.
Other nice things - valet service. All you had to do was place a call from the room when you wanted your car and you would walk downstairs and it was ready. I can see where if you had to go out a couple of times a day it would get tiresome, but we spent the whole time on the beach and only went out for dinner really, so it was great.
We didn't find the staff to be overly friendly as in other reviews, but the service was adequate. We also found some "leftover" things from previous guests as in another review (a grape by the television) so I think it's accurate to say that the maid staff isn't 100% incredible. But the room was very clean otherwise and we enjoyed it immensly. Two TV's and an incredible balcony made up for the grape.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend a dip in the lazy pool for anyone in need of relaxation. A definite grade of "A" in my book.
