One of a few hotels in Ft. Lauderdale directly on the beach. Beautiful porch runs the length of the hotel just over the sand - plus lazy river and pool. Lovely rooms and great views. All the rooms ending in '04' are on the corner looking out over the ocean and to the north, the balcony is over the pool below.

INSIDE DOPE: Read this before the “hotel” owners do. This is a hotel/condo, meaning that some rooms are owned privately and are for rent directly to you. You get all the services and amenities of the hotel for a substantial discount. You might be paying $290 a night (winter), but what you don’t know is the person in the unit next to you is paying $180. Call the Pelican and ask for Maureen Sallustio the owners representative for a list of condo owners. The ‘condos' are the hotel rooms that have been sold to individuals and are for nightly rental directly from the room owners as well. Check vacation home sites for nightly rental of these rooms as well! VBRO(dot)com $99 a night (summer) for some rooms! You must rent directly from a room owner to get a real discount.

I styed in a Queen Suite (two queen beds, a separate sitting room, and balcony). The room was very nice and clean. The hotel is right on the beach and there are rocking chairs on the deck where you can just relax and watch the sunset. The beach is breathtaking, the water was calm and clean. The lazy river was relaxing as was the pool. I have stayed at this hotel twice and just booked it again for an upcoming trip.

After reading the reviews here, my mom and I decided to stay at the Pelican Grand for a mother/daughter weekend. We had a large room on the 2nd floor. The downside on the 2nd floor is you don't have a private balcony, you share with everyone on the 2nd floor. We had two king beds in our room which was nice. Housekeeping didn't vacuum during our stay. Otherwise the room was pretty clean. We had lunch at the restaurant on site and I highly recommend their salads. Breakfast was just okay - we had a package that included a free breakfast each morning. We arranged transportation so we didn't rent a car and didn't have to pay for parking. It was very easy to get around--cabs are plentiful. The first day we took a cab to the Galleria Mall and had a facial at the Red Door Spa. Very relaxing and worth the $$. We spent the next morning at Las Olas Blvd doing shopping and had lunch at the Cafe de Paris which was very good. Afternoon we relaxed on the beach and ordered a frozen cocktail. Our highlight of the trip was an excellent dinner at the Blue Moon Fish Company (make a reservation). The service and food was first rate. Try the Prosciutto & Sundried Tomato Wrapped Brie...delicious!! I did like the hotel and would stay there again.

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times over the past 5 years but things have changed. There is no longer an omelet station for the breakfast buffet , only stale hockey pucks for scrambled eggs and no more pancakes or waffles either. It is now up to $24 a day to valet park your car (it used to be $12). They have happy hours at the bar every afternoon but the drinks are half the size and loaded with ice cubes and $8.50 for a half size drink. In the evening a coffee with a shot of Bailey's was $11.50. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms nicely decorated, very friendly staff and a beautiful veranda overlooking the beach. But we don't think we'll be back again. It's gotten way too expensive!
