There are many beautiful hotels in Ft. Lauderdale and surrounds and this hotel is beautiful as well, but what makes it special is the friendliness of the staff. The staff acts like they are really happy to be there and it makes you happy to be there! The Best Western Pelican Beach is a brand new hotel sitting right on the beach. There is the old Pelican Beach as well. We stayed there from March 17 - 23, 2005. The first two nights we spent in the new hotel which of course is new. What could be bad. But the rest of the trip we spent in the old hotel which we liked better than the new one. We had a king suite overlooking the ocean with a little kitchenette and dining area that looked up the coast of Ft. Lauderdale. We could see the sun rise out one window and set out the other. Their private beach is beautiful and the only thing I would say about it is that acess to it should be easier than down the stairs. I saw several people who had trouble navigating the stairs down to the beach. The bar is very nice and the food there is delicious. The night manager, Doug, drove my husband and I back to Ruth Chris's steakhouse where I had left my purse and saved us from having to cab back there. It's a nice walk or jog down the road to go to Las Olas and other Ft. Lauderdale beaches. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Don't let the words "Best Western" turn you off. It's as god as Hyatt's Pier 66.
