We (a couple with a 7 year old daughter) loved our time at the Pelican Grand. We had (for a ridiculously cheap price, during a sale on Expedia) an oceanfront suite on the corner, looking both out to the ocean and down towards central Ft Lauderdale. The room was very nice and spacious, and we enjoyed the balcony overlooking the ocean. The hotel seemed to be in very good shape, and the overall building, with a sort of island colonial look about it, was very nice; the breezeway in back was very nice for relaxing in the shade when we'd had enough of the sun.

The location was perfectly convenient for us. We see a car as a necessity in Miami and Ft Lauderdale (as much as we normally like walkable, urban places), so given that, the location is great.

One downside is that the pool area is quite small, the pool itself is small, and it is absurdly warm, like beyond bathtub warm. Our daughter liked it, though. The lazy river is great for kids, as long as parents are in control (there were no real problems while we were there). Overall, I can imagine this area getting way too crowded in high season.

However, that is easily fixed: go to the beach! The beach is clean and wonderful, so that is where we spent most of our outdoor time. We enjoyed walking a long ways north along the beach, and my wife also went running along the beachfront promenade in the mornings.

We did not have any service issues (some people freak out if it's half an hour before the pool closes, and the towel person isn't there, so if you have to get a towel from the front desk; for us, that is not a service issue) other than once in the restaurant for breakfast - one morning, they had a complete breakdown (probably related to an event that was being catered), and it took an hour and a half to get our eggs and pancakes. However, that appeared to be an isolated event, as the rest of our time there was trouble-free.

This is easily the most enjoyable (other than the pool) hotel we've stayed at in Miami and Ft Lauderdale, and we would certainly stay there again.

My boyfriend, and I had a wonderful vacation, and can't wait to go back. We had an ocean front king suite that was clean, and cozy, and the view from our private balcony was absolutely perfect. We watched the sunrise every morning, ate a delicious complimentary breakfast each morning (booked through expedia), and spent all of our days on the beach. The crystal clear ocean is warm, calm, and a total dream for beach lovers! We had romantic dinners in the hotel restaurant every night outside overlooking the ocean. The food was decent, staff was friendly, and very accomodating. We have no complaints, and our only regret is that we didn't venture out to see more of Ft. Lauderdale. Next time we'll book a longer stay, rent a car, and see more of the area. I thought from reading some reviews before we arrived that this place was going to be infested with kids, and that we were going to be disappointed, but we booked mid august (off season), and couldn't have had a better time. This Jersey couple is looking forward to their next stay at the Pelican Grand. :)

Our stay at the pelican was wonderful. We could not have asked for a better place to end our cruise. The rooms were great, the staff was friendly and nice. The food in the restauraunt was great. The bar wait staff was great and could not get you enough. The only down fall was that it is kind of far from downtown Ft. Lauderdale but who needs that when you have a beautiful beach with crystal clear water right in your front yard. It also has a wonderful pool and lazy river. It is one of the only ocean front hotels in Ft. Lauderdale. I think it is one of the nicest beaches I have ever been to. Crystal clear water, no seaweed and very little rocks in the water compared to some of the other beaches I have been to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!

We (a family of 4) stayed at the Pelican Grand from July 10 to July 12 prior to our cruise on the Liberty of the Seas. The place is wonderful from the view from our oceanfront queen suite balcony to the relaxing lazy river to the beautiful porch overlooking the ocean. Everyone we encountered on staff were extremely friendly and made us feel welcome. From the time we arrived and Enrique took our bags to our room to the time we asked for the best breakfast in the area (the Floridian on Las Olas) from the concierge, we were treated wonderfully. The place is extremely clean and well-kept. Our room was very large with glass doors separating the bedroom from the living room area. The bedding was also very comfortable. It is important to have a car so that you can travel throughout the Ft. Lauderdale area (the resort is in fact located in a residential area with few stores within easy walking distance as previous reviewers have mentioned). The beach is comfortably wide and extremely clean. Even the water was very clean the weekend we were there. I would not hesitate recommending this resort to anyone, and in fact, we plan on returning sometime soon. The positive reviews of this resort were absolutely correct.

We stayed in this hotel at the suggestion of the American Express Platinum agent who helped us book it. We arrived and were greeted by the valet who helped us with our bags into the lobby. Check-in was very easy. Took the elevator up to our spacious room with a big bed that had an iron style backboard. This had a very southern homey feel to the room that was decorated for a woman. We ordered room service and the food was very good. The bathroom was loaded with amenities, the shower was hot and had a powerful spray. I liked the lace shower curtain also. The balcony had a dual view of the ocean and the city. This is a very nice upscale area with lots of restaurants and a mall close by.
