My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a quick get-a-way from fridged Pennsylvania from Feb 28 2013 to Mar 4 2013. Upon arrival we were met by very friendly valet staff and easily checked in. We then went to our room to unload our stuff. Room was nice, there however was a strange hand print on the wall. Not sure about that. It remained for our entire stay. While reading through the in-room hotel guide, I came to read that the ENTIRE hotel and property were smoke-free, including balconys, verandas..etc. There was a long list of areas you were not allowed to smoke, and it was made rather clear in the book that this was strickly enforced and violators would be fined for each infraction. I am a smoker and my husband is a non-smoker and neither of us see anything wrong with smoking outside. I understand in the rooms makes it stinky and I do not smoke inside my own home. We went downstairs and I approached the front desk and said that I had read all over about the no-smoking policy but I was curious where exactly I was ALLOWED to smoke. Also could I smoke on the beach? The answer I got was yes to the beach and I could smoke beyond their brick driveway, which put me almost in the interesection of A1A. In the evening I tried to go down the stairs instead of take the elevator so that I could "sneak" outside, not possible. Once down to the 1st floor one side opens right up to the valet station and the other side is an emergency exit only, therefore before bed I was traipsing through the lobby in my flannel pjs.
We had dinner at the resturant, very tasty! It was cold while we were there which is not the hotel's fault at all, just was kind of a bummer.
Glad we did decide on a rental car because there really isn't anything close/with in walking distance.
To eat and/or drink at the hotel is rather expensive but pretty much what was expected from a beach resort hotel bar and resturant. You're definitely paying for convenience. One Mai Tai and one Bud Light Bottle = $23.00 FYI.
Sevice was great, quick and friendly.
I understand that the smoking thing is a personal problem and I shouldn't do it anyway but this is not something that I found out before we went. Had I known they were so strict about it I would NOT have booked this hotel. I would have been very disappointed had we paid extra for a balcony thinking I could smoke out there only to find out that that was not allowed. (I'm not a rule breaker) I just feel this is something that should be very well advertised when looking at this hotel as an option. Usually smoke-free hotels have a designated area, and I've never heard of outdoor areas, like private balconys, being included in the "smoke-free" area. Unless you in a hospital.
By the way, I wasn't the only person standing in the intersection of A1A for my nic fix.
If you are a non-smoker, hate people who do and want a relaxed place to stay , this is it for you.
