Let me start by saying that I was extremely excited to stay at this resort, despite many of the negative reviews about the staff. I am a very positive, optimistic person and I just knew that our stay was going to be perfect....That said, I'll begin with the many positives I experienced.....

This hotel is beautiful. The view is perfect, the decor is excellent, the atmosphere lovely. The vicinity to the beach is irreplaceable. We were upgraded to an oceanfront room upon arrival, which started the trip off right. The concierge, David Tapp, is excellent. He is extremely helpful and friendly, a huge asset to the resort. The food is very good, restaurant service fine. The room was spotless and spacious. I had an absolutely flawless stay, until my last day.....

Unfortunately, I experienced a security issue. An item was taken from my room, almost certainly by housekeeping. At first, the front desk staff acted as if it was my fault I had something stolen. Then, the insisted that I "misplaced" it. Let me just say, I am 110% sure I left this item in my room. I never left the hotel all day, except to go to the beach. They showed no concern and definitely no apologies. The response was "do you want me to call the police?" I was not even in the least bit rude to the staff, although I should have been, considering the way they treated me. I am not going to name names on here because I do not want to discredit anyone-as I understand everyone has bad days. BUT there is a serious problem with customer service at this hotel. I am thoroughly disgusted. I was told that the manager would contact me, but have heard nothing. I absolutely hate writing negative reviews. I know that some people look for things to complain about and I am absolutely not one to do that. I had no complaints until this incident. I feel that something needs to be done because the personell at the Grand Pelican is seriously lacking.

If you stay at this resort, I am sure you will enjoy your stay. Friendly advice: NEVER leave anything in your room that is of any value whatsoever. I realize that there was a safe deposit box in the room-as the front desk manager RUDELY reminded me after the incident-that I could have used. But the fact is, I didn't. I trusted the hotel and the staff-and personally thought nothing like this could happen at an upscale facility such as this one.

This resort needs a complete personell replacement, from the top down. As I said before, David Tapp-the concierge, was the only person that showed any concern or recognition of my problem, which was appreciated.

If Overall: Hotel was excellent. Unfortunately, service was incrediblly terrible.. I'm sure there are Super 8's with better management and personell.

The location of this hotel is great as it has a direct acces to the beach not likely other hotels where you have to cross the street first. We had booked a double room, king size and ocean view. Quite surprised that, upon arrival, out of 9 windows of the superb room, only one had a partial view on the ocean ! We have asked for a change but we were answered that this is the type of room they give when booked through internet ! As I said it was not acceptable, after one night they changed our romme and is was not perfect but better (side view). Without saing anything to us the packed all our belongings , removed everything from the previous room and stored the whole luggage. Quite surprising ! Moreover the lost everything and it took them 1 day to find the luggage ! A jacket was still missing when we left. I sent 10 messages without one answer while back in France. I had to ask my lawer to move to get, at last the information that they found my jacket , asking if I would accept to be charge for the carriage to France! Unbelieable is n't it ? After 2 weeks I finnaly received my jacket by ordinary mail, poorly packed ! Not a word of excuse, no apologize....hope this does not happen often here...Hotel is nice, service terrible and they should also not charge for towels at beach .

This hotel is so fantastic. My husband and I stayed here for our 6th wedding anniversary. Every year we stay at a different hotel in and around the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area for our anniversary and the Pelican Grand was BY FAR the best hotel ever, even better than a Trump owned hotel we stayed at last year. The location is perfect, the staff is perfect and the rooms are perfect. The pool was really good too. The lazy river and the walk-in pool were perfect for kids and adults alike. Even though this was an "aduly only" weekend for my husband and I, we are planning to go back with our children because they will definitely have a great time. The room we stayed in had the most gorgeous view of the ocean as did our balcony and when it stormed Friday night, we had such an awesome view of mother nature at her wildest. My husband and I loved it so much we even booked a room for the Ft. Lauderdale Air and Sea show for next May. The property is less than a mile from the center of the show and from your room you have a front row view of the airplanes and boat races. We can't wait to go back!!!

A coworker and I were in Florida on business for a week so we decided to tack on a 1 night stay on the beach to have a little relaxation. We come from cold Washington State so a day of sun on the beach was great. The published room rate is $259-$379 per night, but we got a great deal on Expedia for $179 . We had room #731, on Saturday May 12th.

The hotel has a pretty décor, different than most modern hotels with a slight southern plantation look. It has a big beautiful porch with lots of seating that wraps the beach side of the hotel and overlooks the beach. Great place to enjoy your coffee or a drink in the evening. The service was great from check in to check out. The rooms are pretty, comfortable, and stylishly updated. Again the style is more “old fashioned” so it isn’t the modern look you get at most beach front hotels in Miami or Ft Lauderdale, but nothing is worn or dingy. The pictures probably demonstrate that pretty well.

We didn’t eat at the restaurant or the pool, but there was food available by the pool during the day, as well as a restaurant. I did get coffee in the coffee shop, it was just ok. We had a drink in the bar on Saturday night. The pear martinis were fabulous!

We walked north a couple blocks and then inland a block or 2 to a water taxi stop, and then took the water taxi to the main part of Ft Lauderdale. I highly recommend the water taxi for a great view of the homes along the waterway. We had dinner at Sloppy Joes (very good) and drinks at Fat Tuesdays (love them) and then walked back to the hotel. Most people would probably think it is too far to walk, maybe about 2 miles, but we enjoyed the walk along the beach. It was long, but flat and easy – I walked it in flip flops.

We spent the next day at the pool and beach. The pool was smaller than I expected and pretty crowded. Lots of kids enjoying the lazy river. We couldn’t find 2 chairs by each other, so we went down on the beach and it was less busy. Drink service on the beach was pretty slow. I think the one waiter was covering the pool area and the beach area.

One thing not to miss is the view from the rooftop deck of the hotel. You can see the beach stretch for miles in both directions. This is where they hold events, such as weddings.

We only experienced a couple minor problems during our stay. The Internet didn’t work, which was not a big deal to us at all. The only reason we even tried it was that we wanted to look up directions to a restaurant – and the front desk helped us with that. The second problem was a little worse. We didn’t realize when we booked it that it was Mothers Day weekend. The hotel was hosting a mothers day brunch, and upon checkout we had quite the problem getting our car from Valet. It took nearly an hour. People were everywhere waiting for their cars with no place to sit an wait. I am sure on a regular day it is fine.

Overall a very enjoyable stay.

This hotel is exactly what you want when you're away from home. When you view the hotel on the strip it clearly stands out as the finest looking on that stretch of beach. It's a beautifully maintained establishment with beautiful decoration. I had the ocean side suite and I couldn't have been more pleased with the room which was spotless when I arrived. Whoever hired the staff at this hotel should get a bonus because the everyone from the cleaners to the front desk were so attentive and all seemed to want to provide top notch service. My friend lost her cell phone somewhere between the beach and pool and in a snap there were three staffers assisting us in finding it, which they thankfully did. The meals and dining room staff were absolutely great and the expansive breakfast buffet was a wonderful way to start the day. I wouldn't hesitate to give this hotel my highest recommendation and I feel that I got more than what I paid on my package deal. If I had to stretch and say anything negative I could only say that the pool wasn't that large but who cares when the beach with free chairs was only steps off the rear balcony. I loved this place and so will you.
