A coworker and I were in Florida on business for a week so we decided to tack on a 1 night stay on the beach to have a little relaxation. We come from cold Washington State so a day of sun on the beach was great. The published room rate is $259-$379 per night, but we got a great deal on Expedia for $179 . We had room #731, on Saturday May 12th.
The hotel has a pretty décor, different than most modern hotels with a slight southern plantation look. It has a big beautiful porch with lots of seating that wraps the beach side of the hotel and overlooks the beach. Great place to enjoy your coffee or a drink in the evening. The service was great from check in to check out. The rooms are pretty, comfortable, and stylishly updated. Again the style is more “old fashioned” so it isn’t the modern look you get at most beach front hotels in Miami or Ft Lauderdale, but nothing is worn or dingy. The pictures probably demonstrate that pretty well.
We didn’t eat at the restaurant or the pool, but there was food available by the pool during the day, as well as a restaurant. I did get coffee in the coffee shop, it was just ok. We had a drink in the bar on Saturday night. The pear martinis were fabulous!
We walked north a couple blocks and then inland a block or 2 to a water taxi stop, and then took the water taxi to the main part of Ft Lauderdale. I highly recommend the water taxi for a great view of the homes along the waterway. We had dinner at Sloppy Joes (very good) and drinks at Fat Tuesdays (love them) and then walked back to the hotel. Most people would probably think it is too far to walk, maybe about 2 miles, but we enjoyed the walk along the beach. It was long, but flat and easy – I walked it in flip flops.
We spent the next day at the pool and beach. The pool was smaller than I expected and pretty crowded. Lots of kids enjoying the lazy river. We couldn’t find 2 chairs by each other, so we went down on the beach and it was less busy. Drink service on the beach was pretty slow. I think the one waiter was covering the pool area and the beach area.
One thing not to miss is the view from the rooftop deck of the hotel. You can see the beach stretch for miles in both directions. This is where they hold events, such as weddings.
We only experienced a couple minor problems during our stay. The Internet didn’t work, which was not a big deal to us at all. The only reason we even tried it was that we wanted to look up directions to a restaurant – and the front desk helped us with that. The second problem was a little worse. We didn’t realize when we booked it that it was Mothers Day weekend. The hotel was hosting a mothers day brunch, and upon checkout we had quite the problem getting our car from Valet. It took nearly an hour. People were everywhere waiting for their cars with no place to sit an wait. I am sure on a regular day it is fine.
Overall a very enjoyable stay.
