Very nice, Key West type of place...a bit out of the way but once you learn the lay of the land, its very easy to get around.Very nice accomodations, pretty much on your own to wander the spectacular tropical setting....great pool.
This was my first time in Ft. Lauderdale and first time at Mary's. It was fabulous. The grounds and room were beautiful. And the staff/owner were not only helpful and gracious I left feeling like I had new friends.
This was my second stay at Mary's, because I spent the holidays there a year ago, too. Once again, I found the place relaxing, clean, safe, quiet, and affordable--all the basic qualities I look for in a hotel.
There were some obvious changes since my last visit: Because of the economy, I got an even better deal this time. I was able to stay longer and pay less than I did a year ago. After a wonderful week-long stay, I went home feeling that I got a real bargain.
The owner, who now lives at the property, was incredibly hospitable and helpful in providing the guests with rides to various points around town, for example, to the grocery store, restaurants, and liquor store. (I never did take the new downtown trolley I had heard about because the rides were so readily available.)
As a single gay traveler, for me the location is ideal--within walking distance to a well-known local gay bar (Johnny's), but off the beaten tourist path in a residential neighborhood rather than being in the thick of the action.
At Mary's this year, there were female guests around. And straight couples. With babies even! Everyone seemed cool and friendly, but their presence definitely changed the feel of the place from what used to be billed as a "clothing optional gay resort," which, to be honest, was one of the main draws originally.
The grounds around the pool are even more lush and spectacular than I remembered, making the place feel like a private tropical oasis. It really is breath-taking to sit out under the moon and stars in the warm night air, letting go of the stresses of the world by relaxing to the soothing chill-out station from the piped in XM radio... Magical.
All in all, a great place to spend your hard-earned vacation dollars. I would definitely stay there again!
Keith, at Mary's resort saved our vacation. We were staying at a nightmare hotel in Miami Beach. We called Mary's Resort and Keith (the owner) booked us immediately. He gave us a discount and even barbecued for us that night!! The hot tub was wonderful. He set it at the temperature we wanted (who does that?). We loved it so much we booked a room for Spring Break and we expect a welcome Back Party!! If you want a quiet, place with a lush garden tropical feel, this is it!!!
