There were some positive things about visiting Cocobelle but some of the things that others mentioned didn't quite match our experience (eg. friendly service). The booking was very straight forward and simple, it was fairly easy to find, reasonably close to the beach (can walk), the rooms were very clean and homely and the owners were friendly and inviting/understanding to a certian degree.

When we arrived the owner was very eager and excited about our stay. She had our paperwork ready and a handful of towels prepared for us to go to the beach. I can't say anything negative about the hotel, but it just wasnt our taste...it's obvious that many others liked it. For us, our dislike may have been due to the lack of quietness & privacy, people walking by the windows, noise in the pool area and insufficient window coverings to be private.

The owner did take care of the hotel & you can tell by the cleanliness of the rooms and the property. For the most part, the stay was enjoyable but the only thing that made it not go so well was the large roach my 3 year old found in the kitchen area. She discovered it as we were looking around the room. During the entire stay, she did not want to walk around on the floor because she thought the bug would get her. If anyone out there who has kids & who's kids has never encountered a bug, especially the floridian cocroaches that are about 3" long... it is definately a scare. I'll admit, even my husband and I were somewhat uneasy about the incident. Was there more of these guys lurking around? Although it was almost dead, the legs were still kicking. My husband and I were okay and could have managed to stay the nights that we booked, but it was obvious that my daughter wasnt. Upon calling the owner, she was very apologetic and removed the bug immediately. That was great & we appreciated her honesty and explanation. What we didnt know at the time was that my daughter was very traumatised by the whole experience.

What we didnt appreciate was the rudeness that we encountered as we asked to check out the next morning. The owner acted like she knew what we had to go through that night to console my daughter. I'm sorry, but we waited 5 years to go on vacation, we planned for 4 months to book our hotel and our stay during our week long trip in Florida, it was our first time in Florida and wanted to make the best of our stay. It was our 5th wedding anniversary and we were not going to stay in a place that *everyone* in the family felt comfortable at. We barely spent time in the hotel and the time we did spend, was spent mostly on the bed with my daughter and for a quick change of clothes.

We apologized that we didnt want to stay & for the inconvenience, we offered to pay any cancellation fees and for the night that we stayed. We were NOT looking for anything free or to get away from paying for anything. We just wanted to stay somewhere else, even if it meant paying for the entire time we originally booked. But we were rudely told that "I dont buy your story". Who is she to judge our family and the care that we have for our children. If our child is not comfortable, we're *not* going to ruin our vacation by staying. Tell us what we owe & leave it at that, refrain from judgemental comments because it's just not good customer service! We're paying for our night & any other fees, but we would be paying a bigger price by staying here & not enjoying our trip.

I'm sorry, but if you're looking for a place with customer service, you might not find it here. They're apparently very friendly, that is if you have no concerns.

We stayed at the Cocobelle for 3 days after our cruise ... to wind down before heading home. I read many reviews on tripadvisor and although the hotel looked small we decided to take a chance. Thank goodness we did! What a gem!

We arrived just before 11am (well in advance of our 3pm check-in). They let us leave our bags in the office, offered us the use of the pool and gave us some suggestions to pass the time while our room was cleaned. Dorothee said she would ask that our room be cleaned as quickly as possible ... and I did indeed overhear her letting the staff know that we were waiting for our room. When we returned 2 hours later, still way ahead of check-in, our room was ready.

We were in unit #8, a one-bedroom. Room was VERY clean, very nice. Comfy bed. Full kitchen. Just enough space. Loved the private patio off the back. The only downfall was that we did not rent a car and there is no grocery store within walking distance. We didn't get to take full advantage of the kitchen.

Owners were very knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Our son enjoyed playing with their son Billy. It was nice that he had someone to pass the time with.

On our last day our flight did not leave until 8pm. Again, Dorothee graciously let us leave our bags behind while we walked down the beachfront. When we returned she let us use the office bathroom to change into our swimsuits and use the pool until nearly dinner time. They even called us a taxi (the driver knew Dorothee by name).

Our stay FAR exceeded our expectations. Others have posted that the area was a bit "rough" ... which it does appear, but we did not feel unsafe. And with the Bonnet House right behind you, it was a beautiful quiet place to stay.

Highly recommend! Thanks to Dorothee and staff for making the final days of our vacation wonderful!

We just got back and loved the Cocobelle. I have to agree with other poster that the area is in transition, but with a car you can get anywhere.

There's a CVS and a giant maill right over the bridge on Sunrise.

We felt completely at home at the Cocobelle. It was safe, clean and quiet. Our son loved playing with their son in the ver nice clean warm pool. I particularly loved all the beautiful tropical foilage.

The beach is about a 2.5 block walk. And it's a beautiful beach. We bought cheapo snorkeling gear and saw some itty bitty fish that my son just loved.

We would love to go back some day.

This hotel is great - small, quiet and close to Fort Lauderdale Beach. Our room (no. 7) was clean and quiet, and the pool-area was secluded from the road, with partial shade all of the day.

My only negative comment is about the area in which the property is situated. The hotels is about 5 minutes walk from the beach ( 2 blocks), but in walking to the beach you walk past a number of empty old-style hotels and empty plots. The area looks as if it is being regenerated - there are several large condo/hotel construction sites on the beach. I felt a little vulnerable outside of the hotel, so we decided not to walk around after dusk. In the daytime however, I felt more confident, so walking to the beach or water-taxi wasn't an issue.

We caught the water-taxi from Seville Street (about a 10/15b minute walk away) and happily used it's service to meander to the riverfront at Las Olas, stopping off for an IMAX film and an ice-cream, before taking the water-taxi to the other end of the service for an early dinner at Shooters. Our captains, Glenn and Janet, were great and certainly deserved their well-earned tips for their entertaining commentary throughout the trips.

In conclusion, the Cocobelle Resort is a great place for a few days by the beach and is very convenient for the water-taxi service, but be aware that the area is stilll a little rough around the edges.

This place is fantastic. We stayed for two nights before our cruise but wish we had stayed longer. Place is spotlessly clean and well presented. We couldn't fault our room and I'm sure if we had a problem it would have been rectified immediately. The owners are extremely helpful and very accomodating. We asked for a fold-away bed as our sons decided they wouldn't sleep together in the same bed and we were given one at no extra cost.

If you're undecided where to stay, don't be, you won't regret staying here. Can't wait to go back (without the children next time!).
