We stayed at the Ritz in Fort Lauderdale which just 6 weeks ago was the St. Regis. This hotel is in a great location. We had views of the intercoastal and the Atlantic from our balcony which was huge. We has a suite which was decorated impeccably and was so beautiful except for the teak furniture which was weathered a bit but still comfortable and great to sit in and watch the ocean . Our suite has 2 baths, luxury linens and products. We ate breakfast in the room 22% gratuity added and 80.00 later wow. But the food was great. Can not say that about the resturant on site....I oredered the braised short ribs and 2 grilled scallops on top of japanese sweetpoto puree and carrot pearls........very expensive ands it looked like dogfood when presented ...not kidding. The scallops we ontop of the puree whiche looked like alpo....Now it did taste good and it was nice to eat ourside and service was great . But we had to eat outside due to AArp yearly meeting in the dining room which was full and loud very loud and it was our aniversary dinner. Skip Cero and have brekfast in bed. Or better yet go walk to Cassablanca right on the triangle. Great food and good price. The pool was okay and pool staff okay not overly attentive but fair. Did not use spa or workout room but they looked very nice. Here is the best part. The concierge desk was great and helped my husband arrange flowers , my favorite champage, chocolate covered strawberries, and covered the bed in rose petal in a heart shape. They were the best!!!!!! Here is the down side and another poster confirmed oit. It was $649.00 plus tax about $50.00 for the corner ocean view suite, which was very spacious but still a bit pricey. Then added to that was a daily fee of $30.00 to valet park and $14 for daily internet and to top it off all this money for a room with walls that felt like a $69 motel. Yes we heard all our neighbors. We heard people cough and it felt like they were in the room with us. Let alone the other sounds of you know what. The walls are way way too thin and it really drove you nuts! Okay I really do not want to offend any one since I have no concerns at all and was not bothered by this but the beach across the street is partly a gay beach and if you have small children the lobby is full of nude murals .....many nude murals. We are not bothered by this but other travellers may be and this is a full disclousure report.
In summary, the hotel is beautiful and will no doubt get better as Ritz continues to manage it but it is expensive, the restaurant is way too pricey ( should have the chef go back for presentation) and the staff is not what we have become used to at other Ritz Carltons. The concierge desk, however, is simply outstanding and very attentive to special requests. Russ Messer contacted my husband on his own and set in motion all the special things that he did for me during our anniversary celebration. He is a real winner but all the concierge staff was excellent. Beware of the thin walls, though. Take earplugs or better yet the Ritz needs to start handing them out!!!!!!!!!!! Really this is a no-kidding problem
