Took my wife for a quick weekend trip to Ft. Lauderdale to just get away from the stress of work. The hotel is very new, modern and clean. We had an ocean view king room and it was great. Lots of space, comfortable bed and nice size bathroom. Be sure to hit a convienence store or grocery store on the way in to stock your fridge
with drinks and to have some snacks. No vending machines on site and the nearest store is about 5 blocks away. The kitchenette has everything you need to cook or warmup something. It was nice to have a few snacks if need be. We had room service for breakfast and a quick snack one afternoon and both were good, not great but good. We
spent our days on the beach and not at the pool so i cant comment on the pool but the beach was great. You can rent 2 chairs and a umbrella for $35 for the day. Not a bad deal all in all. Everyone at the hotel was polite and helpfull when needed. As far as the noise from the construction goes, yes there was some noise on Saturday but it wasnt that bad and wasnt any louder than the typical traffic on A1A. If you want absolute peace and quiet then this isnt the place for you but i would say none of the hotels in this area would be because there is plenty of traffic buzzing back and forth. Once nice thing at the hotel is the airline check in machines in the lobby. You can check in and print your boarding pass right there.
We also ate at Shula's on the Beach right down the street. We had an appetizer( calamari and it was great), I had NY strip( and it was ok,
very tender but not alot of flavor), wife had surf and turf(again ok but not great), split a twiced baked potato(kinda dry) and two deserts (chocolate cake- great out of this world, key lime pie- pretty good. We each had two glasses of wine also and our bill was a little over $200 with tip. We enjoy eating at upper end resturants such as Ruth's Chris, Morton's, etc.. and I have to say that Shula's was good but not as good as the others. We also ate at the Sea Watch on the Ocean. We had tempura shrimp appetizer(fantastic), both of had the shrimp stuff sole( very good). We had two pina colodas and a vodka cranberry and our bill was $90 with tips. It was a bit of a trip out to this resturant but we had a great view of the ocean and beach. It was very crowded even at 5:30 with mostly a much older crowd.
Lastly, we did go make a donation at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. They only have poker tables and slot machines and the slot machines seemed to be very stingy and I didnt see or hear anyone jumping for joy in the 5 hrs we were there and it was extremely crowded. The place was very nice and clean but I suppose that is to the amount of money they are keeping for themselves. We have gambled at alot of casinos across the USA and this one seems not to pay out much at all.
Just our experience here, who knows you might win a million. Wife says to dont go to the casino and go to the beach instead.
