as am usually a big fan of hilton family hotels and had seen the hilton under construction in ft. lauderdale for several years before it opened, my recent stay at the new hilton fll beach was a significant disappointment . the indifferent attitude of most staff began as soon as i checked in. although i am hilton diamond (highest level of hilton's loyalty program) and the hotel was not full, i did not receive any room upgrade, even when i asked for it. instead, i was given the smallest room type in the hotel and one which overlooked a huge, very noisy construction site (the north side of the hotel will face the new w hotel fll. despite representations on the hilton website and elsewhere that the hotel is full service, there is not, in fact, any full service restaurant at the hotel other than a small, informal coffee shop with a very limited menu and a tiny breakfast buffet. don't expect any friendly "hellos" from hotel staff that you may pass in the hallway either, as they have clearly had no training on guest service. further, the required valet parking at the hotel was very slow and the attendants were also unfriendly. i one time walked out of the hotel holding a parking claim ticket in my hand and toward the valet office yet for several minutes the attendants continued to chat and laugh amongst themselves before they bothered to ask whether i needed my car. the day after checkout, when i needed a copy of my bill, the front desk attendant was unable to fax me a copy for several hours and then only after 4 phone calls to her asking for a copy. needless to say, without a significant improvement, i will not stay at this hotel again and could not recommend it to anyone else. if one wants an overpriced beach hotel with indifferent staff and lousy service, you can easily head to miami where that is the norm. in ft. lauderdale, however, there are other nice hotels with excellent service that will be happy to host you during your stay, such as the riverside hotel on las olas or the wonderful lago mar on the beach.
