My wife and I live in Indiana and we needed a beach getaway after a long winter. After spending several hours on the internet searching and reading reviews, we settled on the Hilton Ft Lauderdale Beach Resort. It was a great decision.
Service:
Believe the hype, the service there is outstanding. From the guys working out front, to the front desk staff, to the pool attendants and restaurant staff, EVERYONE was extremely friendly and helpful. Having traveled all over the country and the world, the service at the Hilton was among the best I've ever experienced. We were greeted with smiles and warm hello's at every turn. I was truly impressed - someone has trained this staff well.
Property:
Newly renovated, South Beach chic meets 50's modern. The hotel was clean and in very good shape. Our room was comfortable and virtually blemish free (one tiny stain on our carpet near the bed). The layout of the rooms was nice with a great sitting area with large, flat screen TV and another nice flat screen in front of the bed on the dresser. Also had a nice kitchenette area with a microwave, sink and even a single stove top. And a spacious fridge. Plenty of room in the bathroom to get ready and a great shower head with perfect pressure. The beautiful tub with jets seemed like overkill (does anyone actually use those?).
Pool & Beach:
Pool area was very nice - well planned with plenty of room. Great areas to lounge with variations depending on your desired sun level (everything from platform beds, to lounge chairs to cabanas). We never had problems finding spots and if we did, the pool attendant was quick to solve the issue. We were greeted periodically with cold towels and even someone offering to clean our sun glasses (that seemed a little much, but it was a nice touch). Our complaint about the pool: it was freezing. If you advertise a "heated pool", then it should be heated. Doesn't need to be warm, refreshing is fine, but that pool was cold. Several people mentioned that to the management, so hopefully it has been corrected. Beach was across the street - fun to look at from the 6th floor pool area. There is a beach attendant and we went down there twice to enjoy the water and sand. As soon as we arrived we were offered towels. Oh, and on our way out the hotel door to the beach the valets were quick to give us water bottles - another nice touch.
Food Options:
OK, overall the food was quite good. We ate breakfast/brunch there every day and had good experiences. Lots of cold and hot options. Nothing too fancy, but very nice and the service again was great. We also had dinner there on our first night. Very good experience again and the food was very good. BUT, and this is important for anyone thinking about their pocket book, the restaurant is REALLY overpriced. Our brunch bill (with tip) came to $65 each morning - not terrible, but a bit high in my experience for the food/menu, especially when you consider we did not have any alcohol. Dinner on the otherhand was outrageous. My wife and I each had two drinks, we each had an appetizer, each had an entree and that's it. Total with tip came to $175. It was a very good meal and I know this is a holiday destination, but that was pretty crazy we thought. So it was the last time we ate there. Other good spots: Casablanca Cafe just down the street and if you like Cuban food, you'll love Mario's Catalena restaurant. It's a 10 minute cab ride - you won't regret it. Mario is a wonderful host and the food was outstanding. And if you like Mojitos, they are spot on there.
Overall we had a wonderful experience and will definitely plan to stay at the Hilton the next time we are headed to Ft Lauderdale.
