My wife and I live in Indiana and we needed a beach getaway after a long winter. After spending several hours on the internet searching and reading reviews, we settled on the Hilton Ft Lauderdale Beach Resort. It was a great decision.

Service:
Believe the hype, the service there is outstanding. From the guys working out front, to the front desk staff, to the pool attendants and restaurant staff, EVERYONE was extremely friendly and helpful. Having traveled all over the country and the world, the service at the Hilton was among the best I've ever experienced. We were greeted with smiles and warm hello's at every turn. I was truly impressed - someone has trained this staff well.

Property:
Newly renovated, South Beach chic meets 50's modern. The hotel was clean and in very good shape. Our room was comfortable and virtually blemish free (one tiny stain on our carpet near the bed). The layout of the rooms was nice with a great sitting area with large, flat screen TV and another nice flat screen in front of the bed on the dresser. Also had a nice kitchenette area with a microwave, sink and even a single stove top. And a spacious fridge. Plenty of room in the bathroom to get ready and a great shower head with perfect pressure. The beautiful tub with jets seemed like overkill (does anyone actually use those?).

Pool & Beach:
Pool area was very nice - well planned with plenty of room. Great areas to lounge with variations depending on your desired sun level (everything from platform beds, to lounge chairs to cabanas). We never had problems finding spots and if we did, the pool attendant was quick to solve the issue. We were greeted periodically with cold towels and even someone offering to clean our sun glasses (that seemed a little much, but it was a nice touch). Our complaint about the pool: it was freezing. If you advertise a "heated pool", then it should be heated. Doesn't need to be warm, refreshing is fine, but that pool was cold. Several people mentioned that to the management, so hopefully it has been corrected. Beach was across the street - fun to look at from the 6th floor pool area. There is a beach attendant and we went down there twice to enjoy the water and sand. As soon as we arrived we were offered towels. Oh, and on our way out the hotel door to the beach the valets were quick to give us water bottles - another nice touch.

Food Options:
OK, overall the food was quite good. We ate breakfast/brunch there every day and had good experiences. Lots of cold and hot options. Nothing too fancy, but very nice and the service again was great. We also had dinner there on our first night. Very good experience again and the food was very good. BUT, and this is important for anyone thinking about their pocket book, the restaurant is REALLY overpriced. Our brunch bill (with tip) came to $65 each morning - not terrible, but a bit high in my experience for the food/menu, especially when you consider we did not have any alcohol. Dinner on the otherhand was outrageous. My wife and I each had two drinks, we each had an appetizer, each had an entree and that's it. Total with tip came to $175. It was a very good meal and I know this is a holiday destination, but that was pretty crazy we thought. So it was the last time we ate there. Other good spots: Casablanca Cafe just down the street and if you like Cuban food, you'll love Mario's Catalena restaurant. It's a 10 minute cab ride - you won't regret it. Mario is a wonderful host and the food was outstanding. And if you like Mojitos, they are spot on there.

Overall we had a wonderful experience and will definitely plan to stay at the Hilton the next time we are headed to Ft Lauderdale.

I attended a conference at this hotel for business. i found the staff was very professional and went the extra mile-the room was clean and modern, the pool was wonderful- i think i would come back with wife but w/o the kids for a relaxing getaway- but the kids would like it to, there is plenty to do around the area-for family or just the two of us-

i give this high marks!!

After having read about bed bugs in Fort Lauderdale, I was a little leary of visiting, no matter where we stayed. But this hotel was new and clean so I had high hopes and wasn't disappointed.

This is a very pleasant, clean, modern hotel. Wonderful view, great location.

Mark the doorman gave us many tips on where to dine and he didn't steer us wrong.

The $29 valet parking is a royal pain, but it's typical of hotels in the area.

The Hilton is directly across the street from the beach. This isn't a big deal unless you plan to send your children to the beach alone in which case they will need help crossing the street.

The pool area is on the 6th floor -- there is an odd assortment of people wandering the hotel in pool attire, thongs, puddles in the elevator, barefoot people in the elevator and hall... I found this odd but then it may have something to do with where I'm from.

The restaurant is nothing to write home about. I would recommend going elsewhere for dining.

The rooms are new, clean, modern, attractive, with two flatscreen tvs, lovely kitchenette and wet bar, and a spacious balcony with a table and two chairs (our faced south towards the construction of the new W hotel, but since it was the weekend, we heard no noise from the project).

The bathroom is clean and modern, although ours had some sort of odd yellow stain on the cabinet under the sink that housekeeping should have removed, and the shower although it had a rain shower head appeared to be water-saving and the flow was strong but thin and needle-like so it took a little longer to feel I had gotten the sunscreen washed off. They did provide plenty of towels so we didn't have to ask for more.

I understand from having done some research, that the water in Fort Lauderdale is indeed pale green at some times of the year (this is not unique to the hotel) so when we filled the jacuzzi tub it was a strange color, but no need to panic. I wouldn't worry about it being safe to drink or bathe in.

The location of this hotel is north of "Beach Place" and the noise. It's near the Atlantic Hotel. You can walk two blocks and catch the water taxi on the intercoastal to the Riverwalk. The taxi can let you off at Las Olas which puts you in the heart of the dining/restaurant area. We ate at "Mango" which was a good value (not upscale - just average American fare). There wasn't a line and we were seated immediately.

The following night we drove north up AIA to Blue Moon Fish Co and had a fantastic, romantic, sunset dinner on the porch along the intercoastal. If you have a car, check this place out. The bartender is great and we had a good time chatting with the local snowbirds as we waited for our table.

If we return to Ft Lauderdale, we will definitely consider staying at this hotel again.

  • Liked — The room, the balcony, being able to walk to the beach and the water taxi
  • Disliked — The valet parking fee, and the dining room is SMALL for the size of the hotel - skip it!

We just returned after a 6 night stay at this lovely hotel. The thing that made it stand out was the outstanding staff and the service they provided. All requests were handled immediately and in a friedly manner that was not overbearing.

Room: As Hilton Gold members, we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite. The furnishings were new and tasteful, the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was luxurious with seperate waterfall shower and whirlpool tub. There were 2 flat screen TVs and a galley kitchen. We did cook a bit in the room and called down to request a kitchen set which arrived quickly. There is twice daily maid service and the housekeeper removed our dirty dinner dishes during the pm service.

Food: We only ate breakfast at the restaurant. The food was good, especially the cold buffet which included fresh fruit and interesting cheeses and baked goods. There was also a hot buffet including omelettes, hot meats and potatoes. Our gold "complimentary" continental breakfast did not give us access to the buffets. It was a 4.00 upgrade for either the cold or the hot buffet or 12.00 (I think) for both. There is only one restaurant in the hotel but there are many choices within walking distance, many of which have al fresco ocean views.

Pool: The pool staff was fabulous, towels were plentiful and during the day they passed out little goodies such as cool face towels and small dishes of ice cream. The pool itself is rather small but pretty. In order to get a prime lounger, you have to be downstairs early. At 8:30 am the pickings were slim. Also, the pool area beccomes shady by 3-4 pm so sun worshippers beware.

Beach: This is part of the Ft Lauderdale public beach but you can rent chairs and umbrellas from Hilton for 10.00. The beach staff folds up the chairs at 5 pm which I found a bit annoying since I wanted to enjoy the beach a little longer.

Exercise: There is a clean, moderately sized gym with lots of excellent Precor machines. My son found the number of weight machines lacking but there were plenty of free weights available. We did not use any spa services.

Parking: Only annoyance. 29.00/day plus tax and valet only. A pain if you you want to go out daily for meals. sightseeing, shopping, etc.. The valet staff couldn't be nicer but a lower price and ability to self park would have been nice. There was no 24 hr public parking around so my guess is this is the deal at all of the Ft. Lauderdale resorts.

For those who want to play tennis or golf, I wouldn't reccommend this hotel but if you are loooking for relaxation, excellent service and a good night's sleep, I doubt you can do much better. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Definately not a 4 Star Hotel. I'll start off with the maid service and or lack there of...Our maid would never leave enough towels and if you left something hanging on a towel rack to dry...she would not leave the towels for that rack....On one occasion our room was not maid up until well after 4 PM....and only after we notified the front desk...what seemed strange though was we shared a common hallway with another room and the maid was exitting the hallway as we arrived from the beach after 4 PM...we though nothing of this...thinking she was cleaning the adjourning room...until the occupant of the adjourning room returned at 11:30 PM and had to call for house keeping...SINCE HIS ROOM HAD ALSO NOT BEEN CLEANED...so my question is...if the maid was not cleaning the rooms....what was she doing??

Not a big deal...but in a 4 Star Hotel you would not expect the carpet to be lifting between rooms as our's was by the bathroom...and other areas of the room...unless of course you enjoy stubbing your toes on the tacking.....

The Pool and Pool Deck area are definately toooooooo small for a hotel of this size....for as in any resort...there are people who arrive early and stake out the prime locations for them selves...leaving towels/books/etc...on their chairs...only to return several hours later...of course...if you are not an early riser....you are left looking for a place in the sun....or going down to the beach...and the weekends...it is more like a sardine can...than a Pool Deck...as they bring out the extra chairs they have stored for the late risers...
squeezing them in between the already overly crowded guests...

Smoking...although there is no smoking in the enclosed restaurant...
once you go outside to eat....anyone can smoke... and they do....this includes the Pool and Pool Deck area...which amazes me....for as your children are eating/sitting/playing your neighbor can smoke away as your child iand you inhale the smoke...is this what they call Children Friendly or do they mean Children Deadly????

Overall...this is a nice resort in a great location...but for a 4 Star Hotel...it just does not cut it.
