Just back from a 5 night stay at this Hilton Oceanfront Resort. It was great. Check in/checkout was a breeze. Stayed in a 1 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath oceanview room. It was a real plus to have that extra half bathroom because we had a babysitter watching the kiddies sometimes. The room was more than spacious, the deck was huge, and it was nice to have a full kitchen. The pullout in the living room was very comfortable which is not common as far as pullouts go. They supplied a crib for the baby too. The beds are super comfy and they have a ton of pillows on the bed which vary in levels of support. Our room was cleaned daily and at night the cleaning lady came by again for turndown service which was nice.
We cabbed over to the Publix on 17th St. and Cordova and got all our soda and snacks in, and the bellman loaded all our groceries from the taxi trunk and brought it all up to our room. Pretty seamless.
The one thing that stands out in terms of this property is service. All of the staff seemed to be actually happy to be working there and everyone was super friendly. Everyone working there seemed to work really hard to try to make everyone happy.
The towel staff (Paola and Dave) were great b/c they found chaise lounges for you and set up towels on it and even pillows sometimes. They also set up umbrellas next to you if you preferred the shade. Paola was just so sweet, patient, and super nice in a genuine way it seemed. She is the one who bears a strong resemblance to Catherine Zeta Jones. She was great. We gave her a nice tip because she was so helpful (we noticed that people didn't seem to tip her which was too bad). I think all resorts should have chair/towel concierges like this because it prevents wars erupting from chair hoggers, etc.
We used the workout center every day--it was great for me because I use the cardio equipment mainly. My husband is into weights and he said it was a little light on the weights though. All the equipment is brand new with the cardio theatre which I enjoy.
One downside is that the entire time I was there the steam sauna in the women's bathroom was "temporarily closed for repair."
There is free coffee all morning long right inside the Ilios restaurant with to go cups and lids.
The restaurant called "Ilios" was fine for breakfast. They have everything one could possibly want and then some if you get the buffet. Being Hilton goldmembers, we receive breakfast vouchers but that only gets you a cup of coffee, OJ, and toast and a fruitcup (which otherwise would cost 17 bucks). For 11 more dollars you can upgrade to the full buffet which they try to get you to do. The kids can eat whatever they want without having to pay any upgrade fees. My husband upgraded two mornings; I never did. I kind of think it is ridiculous that for OJ, toast, and a fruitcup they attempt to charge 17 bucks (plus tax and tip)! Even more I think is ridiculous that this is what the big "breakfast included vouchers" is comprised of! Anyway, I find when I pay for a buffet, I eat so much more so I declined.
We went to Ilios once for dinner and it was outrageously priced. A dinner salad was ten bucks, my entree was 36, the lowest priced glass of wine was 12, etc etc. I don't mind these prices if this is incredible food but it just wasn't anything like that.
The Bellman were really great too. Mark was great at giving us recommendations for area restaurants and the like. They gave my girl a lollipop a few times and offered to let my little girl play with some of their beach toys when they saw us walking out to the beach.
The pool was a little disappointing because I read on the boards that they had a zero entry pool. This is not true. Their pool is an infinity pool, however. It is very nice and they have a few hottubs too. I was disappointed though b/c my little girl likes to just play at the entrance to zero entry pools and I was disappointed to see I was given bad advice.
There is a cute little restaurant called Casablanca Cafe which is just a short walk down from the hotel. They have great views and great food. We went there for lunch a few times. It seems to be really popular place to go. We had lunch twice by the pool but the menu is rather limited and it was a bit slow to come out.
We used the babysitting service recommended through the hotel called Christian SItters. That worked out great for us and allowed us to have a balanced vacation where we could not only enjoy our children but also a little time to ourselves.
One thing is that a few times I called the concierge for a food delivery recommendation and each time they started with "Ats'a pizza." We tried it and it was terrible. Dough Boys pizza is 100X better we found. They also recommended an Angelos Restaurant which we thought was kind of marginal. We went to pasta panini or something like that on Los Olas and it was sooo good. It was about a $10 cab ride each way to Las Olas.
I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to get away, families, couples.
