“Great location and staff!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

My DH and another couple spent two days post cruise in a two bedroom oceanview suite. We have stayed at various hotels pre and post cruise but this was the first time at this Hilton facility. We really like this location as it is within walking distance to some very good restaurants and is right across the street from the beach. The pros: Great staff! from the check-in staff, room service, bell-hop, even the cleaning staff, was very friendly and helpful. We were treated very well and staff was accomodating in every aspect (from early check in to bringing dishes, extra coffee packs, etc). The restaurant, though small, had very good food. We ate there for breakfast and lunch and enjoyed it very much. Loved having the kitchen and living room for the extra space. the kitchen has no plates, utensils, etc but they will deliver them upon request. Even though our room was not an ocean front room, we had a great wrap around balcony with plenty of chairs and lounges and enjoyed the intercoastal and partial ocean view very much. We could see the cruise ships entering and leaving the port each night.
The cons: the rooms were very worn and dirty. Carpet was stained and dingy, light switches were all smudged, hair and gunk was in one of the tubs, moldy caulking around the tub, I could go on. thankfully we had some clorox wipes that we could wipe down some of the dirt. It was really disappointing as it could have been very nice had a bit more attention to detail was done by the housekeeping staff.
I rated it very good for all the other qualities but the staff really needs to address the cleanliness of the rooms.
the cons:

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

I stayed at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale with my 1 year old son and mother for a week in March. Before our holiday, I searched extensively for a rental house in southern Florida, then hotels in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area. We were very happy with the choice of hotel: very close to the beach, far enough from the loud bars but not too far from the restaurants, great pool area and wonderfully spacious rooms with a kitchen, a must for our cooking morning oatmeals for my son. All of the staff we had contact with were courteous, too. I would recommend this hotel (and Fort Lauderdale) for anyone, but especially for those traveling with kids.

A few tips to make your stay even better:

1. If possible, make a stop at the nearby Publix supermarket on your way to the hotel. There's one on the way from Fort Lauderdale airport, it's large and has good prices. You can pick up some breakfast food and drinks and even sand toys for the little one (though they have some at the pool for loan). The closest supermarket is another Publix 40 mins walk away (by Galleria Mall), though a CVS is only 15 mins walk.

2. The kitchen has no pots or plates in it when you arrive for hygiene reasons. You get them by calling in-room service (there's a note about that) about what you need. They will get you dishwashing tablets or liquid and a toaster too, if you ask for them. But you need to do the asking yourself.

3. Like in many other pool resorts, people "reserve" sun beds in the morning, then head out to breakfast etc. This is even more frustrating when you have a kid who's exited to use the pool but has only 45 mins before meal-time or nap (i.e. no extra waiting time). Keep this in mind and do the same yourself!

4. Take use of the great services nearby: the Sun Trolley bus will save you money and energy as it only costs 50 cents per ride and will take you to Galleria Mall or Las Olas shopping street & restaurants Thursday through Monday. Water Taxi will do the same, but along the beautiful water ways. A day hopping on and off will cost 20 dollars but close to 5 pm you might get a discount. And the drivers double as great tour guides!

We had a 1 bedroom ocean view and the room was very clean although the carpet had 2 large stains. The kitchen is great but you must call the front desk for utensils, plates and pots. There was no toaster which was surprising.

We had to call housekeeping for sheets for the sofa bed but they did come within a few minutes. We had to call frequently for an extra bath towel as we were a family of 4 and they only fill the bathroom with 3 bath towels.

The Internet is expensive- they charge per device so we went to the cafe in the lobby that had free wifi- you must ask for the code.

The pool over spring break was packed as people seem to claim chairs with towels and then don't show up till noon. You need to arrive before 9 am. The pool staff was great at helping you find chairs and umbrellas. On the Saturday afternoon we were there, they had a dj by the pool. But no dj on the next day Sunday.

Valet parking was expensive but staff were very quick and we usually called ahead for the car.

Overall staff was very friendly. The hotel is about 6 blocks from the main bars/ restaurants.

I was fortunate enough to stay here two nights using Diamond certificates on the way to a company trip. My wife and I did not pay for the fees everyone talk about, but do your homework, you will pay for lot's of extras if your are going to stay at resorts. Upgraded to a suite, no complaints with a great ocean view. The beach is beautiful and just across the street. The staff was great, very helpful in everyway, we only ate breakfast at the hotel, but it was very good. Easy walk to the south to other restaurants and shops along FLB Blvd. Great job Hilton, classy property!

I cannot believe all the whining on this site about fees. All the large high end hotels charge for internet, parking etc. It comes with the territory. If you want free internet go to the motel down the street. Now back to this hotel - wow! The facilities are higher end Hilton quality. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and it was well worth the extra costs to have the extra room and the kitchen facilities. The pool was great (although the wind did not cooperate), the beach is across the street (which is consistent with the entire strip of hotels), the gym and spa and restaurants were great. What differentiates this hotel from all others (and I travel a lot - I am a Gold member with most chains) are the people. From the moment you arrive you sense the over the top customer service. It is difficult to describe...you just have to experience it. Other hotels can learn from the management and workers at this hotel! Great job!

I am a meeting planner and I planned a meeting at this hotel for 20 people. They wanted to stay "on" the beach. Across the street is as close as you can get for Ft Lauderdale beach in this area because the beach starts right on the other side of the street. So you can see the beach from the front of the hotel and if you have a room on that side of the hotel. There are a lot of restaurants, bars, and little shops near by. Great street to walk down and you'll see a ton of people jogging, walking their dogs, etc.

The hotel is very nice! The lobby is very small but they do have a little sitting area and they have a cafe attached. The gentleman who checked me in was very friendly and professional.

My room was very nice but they upgraded me so I can't speak to a regular room. They did an outstanding job on my meeting. I highly recommend it to others for business.

A couple of the elevators were down the first day I was there but they had a staff member in the only one working operating it to get it moving faster, which I appreciated.

If I have another group that wants to stay in Ft Lauderdale, I will definately rebook here.

Room Tip: Try to get a beach view!
