I would recommend The Cabanas, hands down, to anyone considering a trip to Fort Lauderdale. Aside from the fact that the location (Wilton Manors) is ideally situated for shopping, night life and the beach, this resort guesthouse has the perfect mix of amenities, charm, comfortable rooms and a very casual, relaxing atmosphere.

The owners and staff are extremely down-to-earth, personable and professional guys, and make every effort to address the needs and complete comfort of their guests. The manicured gardens and tropical landscaping make it feel like a private resort, and the pool area and outdoor jacuzzi are perfectly situated for convenience and privacy to all of the guests. The steam room was also great - very hot within just a few minutes and very clean!

There just seemed to be so much attention to detail, in every aspect, and all of the other "little things" that can really count toward a great experience.

I loved coming over to the cafe each morning, and being able to grab fresh coffee, some fruit, and pastries, and check my e-mail on the PC with high-speed internet and maybe read the paper in the courtyard garden. The complimentary continental breakfast was always nicely presented, and included a great assortment of fresh items.

My room was awesome--nicely decorated and furnished with an "at home" feel, including a small kitchenette, extremely comfortable bed and DVD player for the TV. The staff was outstanding about providing housekeeping and towel services.

What I loved the most was the quaintness and friently feel overall--I met several other guests during my stay, who were all great to visit with and get to know. I plan to keep in touch with some of them that I was able to spend more time with.

In summary, this place and the team of guys who run and manage it, are definitely a class act. There will be no question as to where I stay on my next visit to Fort Lauderdale -- I can't wait!

. . .where I felt like I was not ready to go home.

My and my partner decided our first trip together should be in Fort Lauderdale. Not knowing where to stay, we want something that was gay friendly, just in case my boyfriend actually had the urge to hold my hand in public for once, (which that and more happened).

We planned to stay for five days during the week. Upon arrival, we noticed it was very well secure with automatic gate access to the property. The landscaping was well done and each day we noticed one of the employees trimming trees, power washing the brick paths, etc. Great first impression.

John, the owner took time out of this day to walk the property with us and showed us the 2 pools, jacuzzi, and steamroom. We got great use of them, especially in the evening. Since we had no idea what to do for dining and entertainment, John marked up a map for us to give his recommendations of what we could do. The property is conveniantly located close to most of the gay friendly bars and other businesses.

There were many floor plans, and we got one with the queen bed and kitchen. I saw some had a small living rooms too, while others did not have a stove and sink. The rooms sported a TV/DVD setup and they offered movies to be checked out in the front office, of all ratings. The showers had room for two, and each day the towels where replaced to fresh ones. They even have outside showers with hot water. Did I mention the property is clothing optional? :)

They offered WiFi and access to a common computer for emailing or internet surfing in a building that was next to the main office. That also served as the spot for breakfast items they provided each morning.

One of the highlights is the three kayaks they let the guests use on the waterway. While you are out cruising the canal, you can see iguanas, exotic birds, and if you are lucky, even manatees.

Hands down, we loved it. I could think of something to complain about, but I'd be lying. I would not change a thing. Both my partner and I will be back, if not over winter, definately next summer.

I just returned home from a wonderful stay at the Cabanas GuestHouse! It was my first time staying in Fort Lauderdale, and John (the owner) gave me lots of suggestions of places to visit and things to do. The Cabanas is located very close to the Ft Lauderdale night life, and just a short bike ride to the local beaches.

The Cabanas has bikes which guests can use to ride around town. I rode to the beach with the directions that John gave me. It was a scenic and easy ride. I love the Ft Lauderdale beaches and the bike ride was a fun way to get there! The Cabanas is located on one of the many canals in the city. I enjoyed watching the sun rise and set over the beautiful canals.

I enjoyed the easy access to a PC which enabled me to take care of some on-line banking, plus I was able to e-mail my family back home.

My room was very clean and comfortable, and the pools and other facilities at the Cabanas are well maintained. I enjoyed the pool and sauna during my stay. There was one rainy day, and as I came running into the office (soaking wet) John was ready with a towel for me to dry off. The Cabanas knows how to treat a guest!

I enjoyed my stay at the Cabanas and I'm looking forward to another visit soon!!

The Cabanas was nicely located a short drive from the center of gay life in Wilton Manors. Within minutes, you'll be at some of the coolest bars/clubs, restaurants, and shopping available. Plus there is a 24-hour Walgreen's just down the street. As for the guest house itself, I have to say it's just "not bad." My room was clean enough, but it could have done with a coat of paint to at least cover up some areas of decaying wood. And when the air conditioner and exhaust fan are filthy with dust, you have to wonder what's lurking elsewhere. My room came with a little fridge and microwave, which was nice. Providing me with a bottle of water or two might have been a nice touch. They did provide a couple of plastic cups for use with whatever beverages I purchased on my own -- but these were not replaced after they were used on the first day. Finally, despite it being a holiday weekend and the host telling me the place was nearly full, I never saw more than a couple of other guys the whole time. Very quiet and reserved is a good way to put it. I wouldn't say don't stay there, but next time I'm in town, I'll look for a nicer place first.
