“Nice resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We spent only 2 nights in this gay resort and we regretted , we had not spent more time there.
The location is great, very close to beach and city centre. Rooms are comfortable, equiped with cofee maker, DVD etc. They are spotless , very clean. The communal area is enjoyable pool and jacuzzi. The provide event a breakfest with quite a wide selection of items. The staff is friendly and attentive. We met a lot of funny people and the atmosphere is very friendly. Definitely worth staying there!!!

I lost count of how many times I've stayed here but when you find perfection, there's no need to go elsewhere.

This time I had a 1 bedroom suite which is larger than many 1 bedroom apartments. The large living / dining room had new furniture from the last time I had this room. The kitchen has everything except for an oven (it does have a modern 4 burner smooth top stove). The bathroom was updated and large and the bedroom was larger than my bedroom at home.

The grounds and room were impeccably clean.

The breakfast was great for a place with no food license with 3 types of juice, 2 types of bagels, cereals, yogurt as well as other items.

The staff is top rate. Very helpful and engaging when you need them and very respectful and non intrusive when you don't.

I will always stay at the Grand!

Third time back to The Grand. Absolutely a great location at a great price.

Good mix of singles and couples - most of them are returning also which means something to the owner and his staff. People want to come back and look forward to the time away.

Rooms are extremely clean and well furnished. The Spa staff and manager JD are on top of their game. Best service and are polite to the guests at all times.

Happy Hour on Thur-Sat provides the time to get to know others. Lots of places to walk to and eat in the area but having a car there is no problem either.

Feel safe at night and know that if you need something - just ask. It's never a problem.

Great service with a smile.

The Grand is a good example of how far gay resorts have come since the days of second-class accommodations. Staying at the Grand is a first-rate experience, thanks in large part to the friendly and attentive staff. The resort is very well located if you choose to be at the beach (and why wouldn't you?), and is clean, comfortable and a good value. We send special thanks to Herb, who took care of a potential glitch in a very classy way. Well done. We will stay here again....

My first visit to Fort Lauderdale, and I split my stay between The Grand Resort, and the Royal Palms.
Arrived late and checked in with Jim, who escorted me to the room, followed by an extensive tour of all the facilities. I had booked a courtyard room- but Herb had upgraded me to a poolside room, and very nice it was too.
Stylish, comfortable, spotlessly clean, mini kitchen, coffee maker, iron, microwave, safe, TV air con, CD / DVD, ceiling fan, everything you could possibly need.
The rooms either side were occupied, but I never heard a thing. Pool towels laid out every morning on all chairs and ample supplies all around.
The rooms have a reasonably priced mini bar, as sadly there is no bar in the complex, so the place does not have a focal point, and at times can appear souless. Maybe a daily happy hour would help?
All he staff were great, but seem to only speak when spoken to.
Used the Spa facilities too, which was very nice and professional.

Two distinct areas, poolside and courtyard, the latter being clothing optional - although when I was there that facility didn't seem to be popular.

Pretty good complimentary breakfast too - juices, tea / coffee, pastries, cerials, fruit and yoghurts.

Got the impression the resort is more "comfortable" with older couples rather than young singles.
Fort Lauderdale is pricey this time of year, but Grand Resort was competitive and much cheaper than Royal Palms, which I found a bit "scruffy" in comparison to Grand Resort.
Would I stay here again ? Most definetly.

We had a Grand stay for 5 nights mid Feb including spa treatments which made the vacation even more relaxing than normal and will return.

The Stay - Arrival - very clean and well presented resort behind the wall you can feel your tension melt. Check in was easy then we were whisked off to our pool view room on the 2nd floor. Note - no tour was offered or given of the resort as mentioned in previous postings. We had booked the 5 night spa package and there was some sparkling wine ready chilled in the room waiting.

The room was clean - very modern lines with everything you need in a good hotel room - walk in shower - good soaps - small fridge - stereo system - large walk in closet - bed comfort was ok - with good linen - plenty of pillows. One small issue we had was the size of our TV although flat screen it could have been larger < it may have been a 23 in >. We checked out some of the other rooms and they had larger TVs - so maybe that is being worked on but was mentioned to the staff.

Resort - split into two defined areas - front is by the main pool with rooms on two levels with pool views. The main office, breakfast room, gym and sun deck are located in this part of the property. This area has an open feel which we loved. Behind that is another building with three levels - these are the courtyard rooms - by the hot tub - fountain and this is also where the Spa is located. It feels more private and enclosed than up front but not our style. Two resorts in one :-)

Breakfast - is a fairly good - coffee is great - juices available also - food has to be of the pre packed variety as I dont think FL law allows it not to be unless a food license if in place. The selections of food - cereals - yogurt - bagels - cream cheese - muffins - danish - boiled eggs and some fresh fruit. It was relaxing eating out by the pool in the morning.

Happy hour on Thu - Fri and Sat evenings include wine and some light snacks.

The Spa - fantastic and professional. I had a body scrub and massage which was out of this world by Richard who has very talented hands and is a handsome bear. A facial done by Trent who is a part time entertainer oand took the facial to a higher more relaxing level. Ultimate professional team lead by JD.

The Staff - something is obviously working as things seem to moving like clockwork. The resort is immaculately clean and the rooms are serviced daily and very well. The staff is lead by Herb who is a consummate leader and a pro at customer service. Some of his charm would not go lost on a few of the staff however who seem to wonder around efficiently and sterile like robots more than human eye contacting customer service people. Almost aloof but I don't think it is meant that way. I am sure Herb has his finger on the pulse and those people will come in line under his guide.

The Guests - a good mix of early 30's - 60's - couples and singles. Was not a bathhouse feel - with some light sexual tension.

The resort is two short blocks from the Atlantic and is surrounded by many other of the gay guest houses. It is a clothing optional resort but clothing is "suggested" at the main pool. There are no such signs by the hot tub :-). The naked gay beach is about a 30 min drive away - so if that is where you want to be you will need a car.

We ate at numerous places during the visit - one of mention within walking distance is the Casablanca Cafe - no reservations allowed - get there early and its worth it.

Will we stay here again? YES. A questionnaire of follow up was sent by the resort which I sent back and they genuinely are looking for ideas to improve anything for future guests.

Thank you Grand :-)

Room Tip: We will again choose a poolview room for our next stay as we liked the open air feeling it gave.
