I stayed three relaxing nights at Pineapple Point in July 2004, having just spent a few nights at the similarly luxurious Flamingo Inn Amongst the Flowers, which would make an ideal beach-focussed counterpoint to Pineapple Point's more pool centric appeal.
You HAVE to check this terrific resort out, it must be the best high end men-only resort in North America.
I managed to get a great out of season deal, about $159 per night, for a room right next to the reception. This was the cheapest, so in season this place is pricey, but in my opinion worth every penny.
Pineapple Point gives a restful feel as you enter the lush gardens of the gated compound, with good security and *great* staff (cute, too!) who went out of their way to assist in any way possible. There is plenty of parking outside.
The grounds and buildings are charming, well maintained and the British West Indies style rooms were cosy, spacious, and offered every amenity you could imagine for a four star hotel.
Luxurious cotton sheets, great comfy beds, quiet a/c and a fan above the bed. One side of the wall had a library of interesting books to peruse during my stay. Bathroom had a shower only but was spotlessly clean and modern. There is a TV and VCR, with ample "educational" selections available on loan from the reception.
WiFi access is available free. Expanded Continental breakfast and fruit is available every morning in the lounge. There is no restaurant, but most residents order in together at lunch, and dine by the sparklingly clean pool. Those with suites have the option of taking lunch at the outdoor sitting areas in front of their rooms.
There is a jacuzzi, well equipped gym and massage is available on site. Though an adult resort, any alternative activities were discreet and confined to late at night. There are other places in Fort Lauderdale which cater to that more effectively. Clothing is optional, though only about half the guests availed themselves of this possibility.
The only slight drawback is that this property is not close to the beach, being about a ten minute drive back across the bridge. This suited me fine, having already had a few days by the sea, and the pool at Pineapple Point was so nice you did not feel like leaving.
Wine and canapes are in evidence compliments of the management every evening, which is a great opportunity to meet your fellow guests. Given the room rates, most were professionals in their 30s, 40s and 50s, with many pilots although as a late 20s guy I still felt welcome and not out of place.
You will find plenty of "Airliner World" and other aviation magazines around the property, which is an indication of the owner's former life as head of crew training at a major airline.
It was more like visiting someone's home than a guest house, and I cannot recommend it more highly; I had a great stay and will be back next year.
On leaving my car battery failed; at no charge the reception assistant used his own AAA membership to call a tow truck and had my vehicle jump started, staying late on a Sunday evening to ensure I got away OK. Superb service, above and beyond the call of duty, and typical of the superb attitude exhibited by the staff.
It is a little tricky to find if you are driving, so get good directions of you are planning a trip, or use SatNav if you can get it on your rental.
