I am in a profession that does not allow a great deal of vacation time. That being said, I want to go somewhere to relax and be pampered. I don't go on trips to spend a lot of time away from the hotel/resort and so I look for high quality.
I found this high quality at Royal Palms. From the check-in to check-out, the experience was nothing but five star. Staying in the Royal Suite, the first impression was the spotless appearance and the high quality of the room. The hosts were very helpful and friendly.
The morning breakfast was excellent and better than some of the ones I have had at guest houses in the past. In addition, I was able to make coffee in my suite so my morning started off well.
The pool and jacuzzi were well maintained as were the pool side chairs/tables. Towels were readily available and were in good condition.
The Royal Palms is high quality and I believe meant for a different guest group than some of the Lauderdale guest houses. If you are looking for a "hook-up" resort with loud dance music, cruising areas, and a "frat-boy" atmosphere, this is not for you. If you are like me and wanting to relax by the pool, read a book, and take a break from a busy life, then this should be your first choice.
I slept well every night there and found the bed comfortable and the bathroom/kitchen/living room furniture and appliances were all clean and in good condition. A CD of relaxing music was in the room which is nice for those who want to take advantage of the sound systems.
And in reference to some other reviews, I don't know how someone could say that the Royal Palms is not as close to the beach as most of the other gay resorts since it is steps away from the Venice, Worthington, Alcazar, etc. If you want to go the beach, it is an easy walk or drive.
In closing, the Royal Palms provides a resort for gay men who value quality, privacy, and above all quiet relaxation. This is a resort for mature discriminating professionals and I look forward to returning very very soon.
