i was there with my boyfriend. first time in fort lauderdale and first time in gay resort. it was not the high season so only 2 more couples were there so it looked empty. the rooms are very very clean and big enough. the service is perfect. we got a list of all gay clubs/bars/restaurants in the area and honest and good recomendations as well. however, the breakfast was a bit poor for the price, but better then not having it at all. a bt far from the gay beach but it seems that all gay resorts are
i think we will get back there next time.

Stayed at the Royal Palms for a long weekend in Ft. Lauderdale. We've stayed there before and always are treated like royalty. The property is immaculate, the pool is great, and the staff are exceptionally helpful. We'll be back!

Cons:

The hotel is dated, the updates shown in pictures on internet, are not in every room. We had a small bathroom with a simple pedestal sink. No frills. The decor is simple at best. The couch is covered in palm tree fabric, the drapes in the same fabric, etc... Looks like a set from the Golden Girls, circa 1990. The pictures are simple prints that are surprisingly hung too high on the wall. (should be eye level of an average sized person, the person that hung these, must have been 8 ft. tall)

The pictures of the hotel were obviously taken with some type of telephoto lens which elongated the pool and property. It is a rather small property.

The breakfast too is simple at best...packaged danishes, bagels, coffee...nothing special.

The entire place is small, so the variety of clientele is limited.

Pros:

The best customer service I have ever experienced. Each employee at the resort, greeted me with a handshake and an introduction. Each employee continually asked what they could do to make our stay more comfortable.

The place is super clean. Windows, walls, mirrors, pictures, etc...very clean

The linens were comfortable.

Free poolside drinks during the afternoon. When we ran out, asked John if there was more, and more were promptly made.

Likewise while lounging poolside, was offered additional, fresh towels on several occasions.

Free water, candy, popcorn, snack items, etc.. provided.

Impeccably landscaped property. The area was small, but because of the landscaping... was private, and seemed like a much more remote resort.

The size of the hotel, while a con in some ways, is also a positive. We got to know each of the guests and would easily recognize them out and about. It was an intimate setting, to relax in.

The location is fantastic, several blocks from the beach, and maybe 10-15 minute walk to the gay beach.

Overall, fantastic experience...a little disappointed that our room was not as up to date as the ones on the website. And, we even paid extra for the Royal Suite...assuming the larger, more expensive would be the most up to date.

We will definitely stay here again for our next visit to the area. Kudos to the staff for making it a fantastic stay

The Royal Palms advertises itself as a five palms awarded property. Not so, in our experience! My partner and I have stayed in a number of other five palm awarded gay resorts and the Royal Palms just does not measure up!

The staff are friendly but this does not overcome the fact that the room furnishings are mediocre at best and the breakfast fare unimaginative and lacking in healthy options. There is no gym or lounge area in which guests can mingle. The grounds are okay but they are overlooked by other buildings; an issue for some guersts in a clothing optional resort.

Overall, the Royal Palms is equivalent to a standard Holiday Inn in terms of what is provided. There's nothing wrong with that, if that is what is expected. The Royal Palms' advertising proposes to offer much more, but fails to deliver and that is the problem!

The Royal Palms is a great small hotel! The grounds and pool are immaculate and the attention to detail by the staff is impeccable.

The rooms are very nice and incredibly clean! Upon check-in a personal, hand-written note is waiting in the room thanking you for choosing to stay at the Royal Palms.

While not the closest resort to the beach, it is a very "walkable" 2 blocks. Free beach chairs, towels and sun block are available for use.

The entire staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this resort and KNOW that I will stay there upon a return trip to Ft. Lauderdale. I have stayed at other similar resorts in Ft. Lauderdale and this one is tops!

  • Liked — Attention to detail, cleanliness, comfort
  • Disliked — Not the closest resort to the beach, but close enough.
