I don't get it. The place is fine, but it's no better than your generic mediocre chain hotel with a pool. A step below a Marriott or maybe two. Normally I don't complain about this kind of hotel but:
1. It's $180 a night.
2. It's rated #4 in all of Fort Lauderdale?
If that's really true, that's a pitiful statement for Fort Lauderdale! At $100 a night I'd be saying that this is a good deal, probably giving it 4 "stars". But I think it's time to break some misapprehensions.
There's nothing nice about anything you can walk to from here. There is a decent looking German restaurant, so maybe that's an exception. Other than that you've got a grocery store, 7-11, McD's, Wendy's, Subway, thai hole-in-the-wall, chinese hole-in-the-wall, liquor store, laundromat, etc. There's a Walgreens not too far away.
The breakfast is exactly what you'd find if you roamed the corridors of Costco and purchased the cheapest things you could find. Their hot food is nasty greasy sausages, cheese omeletes, and such, that clearly went from freezer to microwave to counter. Stick with the cinnamon buns which aren't exactly high-quality but at least are tasty. And for the coffee, no whole milk let alone cream, just 2% or fat-free for the cereal or CoffeeMate, and not a Starbucks in sight! 8-)
Their Internet connection doesn't seem very reliable. Both evenings of my two-night stay were painfully slow. I called the front desk who explained that they have to reset it occasionally, and that does seem to have helped, so if you stay here and it's a problem don't hesitate to call down.
They do offer a shuttle from the airport. They wouldn't send the driver until I had my bags (reasonable for a busy airport since they can't park), and then told me it would be 15 minutes. It was 35 minutes. If they'd told me I would have just taken a cab for $10 - $15.
And other minor things, like only one elevator seems to be in service, and the hot water tap takes a full minute to get hot (5th floor of 5), and until then is colder than the cold water tap, and the glasses are just plastic cups.
I don't want it to sound like I'm horribly particular. I stay in worse and don't complain. it's just for the #4 hotel in the entire town and for $180 per night (plus tax) I expected something more. Mind you, if all you need is a no-brainer hotel for one night between flight and cruise, the hotel is fine if overpriced. But I spent an extra night and probably would've been happier somewhere walking distance from downtown / Las Osas, or the A1A beach area.
