I don't get it. The place is fine, but it's no better than your generic mediocre chain hotel with a pool. A step below a Marriott or maybe two. Normally I don't complain about this kind of hotel but:

1. It's $180 a night.
2. It's rated #4 in all of Fort Lauderdale?

If that's really true, that's a pitiful statement for Fort Lauderdale! At $100 a night I'd be saying that this is a good deal, probably giving it 4 "stars". But I think it's time to break some misapprehensions.

There's nothing nice about anything you can walk to from here. There is a decent looking German restaurant, so maybe that's an exception. Other than that you've got a grocery store, 7-11, McD's, Wendy's, Subway, thai hole-in-the-wall, chinese hole-in-the-wall, liquor store, laundromat, etc. There's a Walgreens not too far away.

The breakfast is exactly what you'd find if you roamed the corridors of Costco and purchased the cheapest things you could find. Their hot food is nasty greasy sausages, cheese omeletes, and such, that clearly went from freezer to microwave to counter. Stick with the cinnamon buns which aren't exactly high-quality but at least are tasty. And for the coffee, no whole milk let alone cream, just 2% or fat-free for the cereal or CoffeeMate, and not a Starbucks in sight! 8-)

Their Internet connection doesn't seem very reliable. Both evenings of my two-night stay were painfully slow. I called the front desk who explained that they have to reset it occasionally, and that does seem to have helped, so if you stay here and it's a problem don't hesitate to call down.

They do offer a shuttle from the airport. They wouldn't send the driver until I had my bags (reasonable for a busy airport since they can't park), and then told me it would be 15 minutes. It was 35 minutes. If they'd told me I would have just taken a cab for $10 - $15.

And other minor things, like only one elevator seems to be in service, and the hot water tap takes a full minute to get hot (5th floor of 5), and until then is colder than the cold water tap, and the glasses are just plastic cups.

I don't want it to sound like I'm horribly particular. I stay in worse and don't complain. it's just for the #4 hotel in the entire town and for $180 per night (plus tax) I expected something more. Mind you, if all you need is a no-brainer hotel for one night between flight and cruise, the hotel is fine if overpriced. But I spent an extra night and probably would've been happier somewhere walking distance from downtown / Las Osas, or the A1A beach area.

“WOW - LOVE the service at this hotel”

Holiday Inn Express Ft. Lauderdale Airport/Cruise

We stayed at this hotel prior to our cruise. It was within walking distance of the cruise port (about four blocks). The hotel has FREE airport pickup and the employee that came to get us was so sweet and friendly. He greeted us with a handout the hotel had prepared of restaurants and other attractions in the area.
In all, we stayed two nights at this hotel - the night before, and the night after, the cruise. The employees were incredibly friendly - whatever we wanted, they had. The rooms were impeccably clean and were stocked with a microwave, fridge, snacks, and bottled water. Every time we wanted anything, an employee jumped all over our request. They even called us after we checked in to make sure everything in our room was ok. The breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn Express breakfast, PLUS hot eggs and breakfast meats for my non-vegetarian honey.
The hotel is close to the convention center, airport, and downtown Fort Lauderdale/River Walk, in addition to Port Everglades. The only complaint i had was that the hotel was WAY too cold - over air conditioned! But of course, we had climate control within our own room.

we stayed here for 1 night before our cruise, the location is great, very near to cruise ship port, the hotel provides a shuttlel which is a bargain at $7 per person. The best happy hour i have ever come across beer/wine and subs absolutely free between 6 and 7, great breakfast and all for a very low price. Yes the place could do with a little updating but it is clean and the staff very helpful.

Several shops opposite, the road a little hazardous to cross though!

Woud recommend hotel or a budget break or pre/post cruise.

Fabulously comfortable beds.

Well worth the money

“Convenient for cruise ship passengers”

Holiday Inn Express Ft. Lauderdale Airport/Cruise

We've stayed at this classy little place twice, both times before a cruise. Although they now charge ($7 per person) to shuttle you to your cruise ship, they still pick you up at the airport for free. Our Priority Floor room had a small sitting area, microwave, coffee service, very comfy bed. A forgotten razor was quickly replaced with a trip to the front desk. On Thursdays there is a simple Manager's Supper, which was Subway sandwiches, chips, beer and wine. . . not exactly Chasen's, but better than traipsing out to a restaurant after a long day of flying.

“Disappointing”

We spent one night pre-cruise here. It's a dated hotel and worn around the edges. No hot tub. Small pool. Long hot dangerous (no cross-walk) walk across the street to some markets (Winn Dixie and liquor stores.)

No eateries open nearby after 10pm. Rooms were clean, but scratchy sheets, thin towels and old fashioned air conditioning. Airport shuttle people were very nice; front desk staff inconsistent in their level of helpfulness. Breakfast was okay.

All this for $270 a night on AAA rate. Seems high priced to me for such a run of the mill establishment. I really wouldn't stay here again.

Don't be scared if you've booked; it's clean and vaguely safe-feeling; just don't expect any level of "extras" or super comfy beds or efficient and quiet air conditioning. If you are "celebrating" anything, this is not the hotel. Feels like a stopover point between flights.

Not looking for luxury certainly, but I don't quite see what earns it such high scores on this site. I'd opt for something else next time.
