“Great atmosphere and fun food”

Mai-Kai Restaurant & Lounge

Jul 20, 2008

I love the Mai Kai. I used to go all the time when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale. It has a fun atmosphere and great even if you go for drinks and appetizers.
Dining outdoor in the gardens can be very romantic.
Try the lobster bora bora out of this world. Loved it. Also the Nams are very, very good and different. They have a after dinner drink(can not remember the name)and it is frozen with icecream and west indies spices. Wonderful. By far my favorite frozen drink I have ever tasted.

I liked the show and the atmosphere but for the price the food was not up to par. I did not have any problems with my meal I would just expect more for how much you pay!

I know the Mai Kai is a mecca for every tiki-file to visit at least once in their life time. And that's all it's going to take for me.. once in my life time.

The food was passable but more expensive than what it was worth. The staff was both helpful and well, just bad. We were seated outside on a cold and raining night. We asked to have a table inside and was told that it was colder inside. We asked again and told there was no seating. All of this information came from our waiter. I finally went to the desk and asked to be have a table inside. He says 'no problem' and within seconds we're seated inside where there was plenty of room and it was much warmer!

the Mai Kai is something you should see once. It's a flavor of the by gone days when people sit and sipped cocktails, ladies dressed in tight fitting bodices and poofy skirts and men dressed in thin ties and slim fitting jackets. The Mai Kai today needs a good cleaning and needs to be brought back to it's former glory.

For the adventure of being transported out of the humm -drumm of everyday dining and entertainment, you cannot miss the MaiKai.
Exotic ambiance, fantastic, slow roasted food, cooked in tradtiional Chineese ovens, drinks fit for royalty and the class of an old-school supperclub, oh, and tropical garden walks to-boot... it can't be beat!

For over 50 years, the MAI KAI in Ft. Lauderdale has been presenting outstanding drinks and food along with its amazing Polynesian show. There's so much history it's hard to know where to begin. For cocktails, the 2-for-1 happy hour before certain dinner seatings is a must. Here's a tip: both your drinks have to be the same order, but if you switch with someone you can try a few.

A night at the Mai Kai can be pricey, it's not for every day. But if you're celebrating anything at all, the fantastic food, drink and decor are worth it. Try the Barrel O'Rum!

Also: reservations are highly recommended.
