I was very disappointed in our dinner at Casa D Angelo in Ft. Lauderdale on June 28th. We arrived early without reservations but the dining room was empty. We were seated outside on the sidewalk (for those of you who have NOT been to Ft. Lauderdale in June, it's HOT). The overhead fans helped but it was still warm. We were told we would have to sit outside because I was wearing jeans and my friend was wearing shorts. While eating we noted an elderly man arrive using a walker wearing blue and white striped shorts being seated INSIDE. Then a young lady with very tight blue jeans entered with an older couple and they were seated INSIDE. Then a middle age lady wearing spike heels and a skirt short enough to be embarrassing entered with a gentleman and they were seated INSIDE. I paid the check and went back inside to question why others who were not meeting the dress code were allowed inside and was told "they had reservations!".

(Of note, when we asked for more bread, we were told that only the first plate of bread was complimentary. I assured our waiter that we could and would pay for more bread.)

I have been to this restaurant before with friends for special dinners and was very disappointed to find out that the dress code does not include EVERYONE, only select people.

Call for reservations to avoid being embarrassed !

This is definitely the best restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale!!! In this place you can find a large variety of excellent dishes... carpaccio, soups, salads, pastas, rissottos, lamb, beef, seafood and desserts. They offer some dishes that are not in the menu. The service is great and the staff is very friendly. I recomend to make a reservation and to bring your wallet, this place is pricey, but it is worth every penny!!!

Tasty Italian fare. The restaurant is very small but pretty - too bad it is located in a strip mall.

I heard a lot about Casa a'Angelo and was anxious to give it a try.

We were seated immediately and the host and hostess were very friendly.

The restaurant boasts an extensive wine list with many reasonably priced selections.

We began with some focaccia and some bruschetta. Neither was especially good. The focaccia was flabby and somewhat insipid. The bruschetta was pedestrian (not well seasoned, bread was not good quality or thick and the tomatoes were not ripe or particularly tasty.

We ordered appetizers. The broccoli di rape was done extremely well (probably the best thing we ate). This is a compliment to the chef since we rarely find it cooked properly here in the US.
Our prawns were a somewhat over grilled and tough.

Our server was an American and his pronunciation of the dishes was amusing.

Pesce became Pesh, Mozzarella became Mozzarell, etc. Since there were Italians working in the restaurant, I am not sure why they haven't told the staff how to pronounce the dishes properly.

We ordered a variety of dishes and found them all to be done well, but they were not exceptional.
The pappardelle were lacking in seasoning and the tomatoes had cores that had been left in. We weren't offered grated cheese or pepper; we had to ask. The other dishes were good, but again, were not exceptional.

We ordered Tiramisu' for dessert. We were told it was from the chef's mother's recipe from Salerno.
It was odd, and lacked the usual characteristics of a great tiramisu'. We were searching for the savoiardi but couldn't find any.

I have had the same dishes in several New York restaurants including Trattoria dell'arte and Babbo. Casa d'Angelo isn't in the same league. It is a good restaurant; I would say a B-list restaurant (good), but certainly not an A-list restaurant (excellent), and certainly not the best restaurant in town. It boasts a good wine list and many reasonably priced options.
