This place is just plain AWFUL!!!! Description on another restaurant review page indicates that Jade Palace has won accolades from local press critics. Well, in my opinion, those press critics must have been pretty darn intoxicated when they gave Jade Palace any kind of accolades! Perhaps the accolades were for worst service ever, lousy food, overpriced entrees, tiny portions, highway robbery on the price of sodas, and truly unpleasant ambiance!
My family and I decided we wanted Chinese food after attending an event in the Fort Lauderdale area. When we searched for the nearest Chinese restaurant on our GPS, it listed Jade Palace as the closest, so we decided to give it a try. Yes, the Oriental decor is pleasant, but that's exactly where the enjoyment ends.
Upon arrival, waitress was EXTREMELY aloof and didn't t give a hoot about making us feel welcome. Attitude reflected that she was performing a favor by having to serve us. We should have walked out right there and then, but we were really hungry and just decided to order. When the food was belligerently brought to our table, we were shocked at the size of the portions for a cost of $16 a piece! We enjoy eating Chinese food as a family, and have always ordered only two different entrees, plus a fried rice to feed two adults, and two kids. The amount of food served perhaps would have been enough for two individuals on a portion-controlled diet, but not sufficient for a family of four hungry people!!! I mean, the portions were SMALL!!! Now, about the food itself... soggy and salty best describes both, the Pepper Steak and the Orange Chicken. Actually, the dishes tasted almost identical. In fact, if I had blindly tasted the two, the only way I would have been able to tell them apart was because the textures were different! I guess when you eat at Jade Palace EVERYTHING REALLY DOES TASTE LIKE CHICKEN!
To top it all off, we had country music blasting through overhead speakers, while a football game was aired on a TV directly across from our table. When another customer asked the pompous, Caucasian, blue-eyed, white-haired, English-speaking manager if the volume could be raised on the TV, the manager blatantly replied, "No!" I was appalled! Woo-hoo! Accolades for BEST AMBIANCE EVER!!! (Not!)
OK, back to OUR service... asked waitress 3 times to bring us more soda, but she returned with our check. When I inquired as to whether or not she had already charged us for the additional sodas I had requested, she told us she hadn't, then returned to the kitchen to modify the check and FINALLY brought us the sodas I had ordered over 20 minutes before.
Now, for the final shocker... how about paying more than $3 for a can of Coke??? We ordered 6 Cokes in total, for a charge of over $18 for darn sodas!!! I then realized that the price for sodas was not listed anywhere on the dining or drink menu. Our bad! We should have inquired before being slapped with the insult!
Well, needless to say, we left the overly exuberant and sweet waitress a tip fit exactly for her!
Overpaid $60 for crappy food and even crappier service! Do yourself a favor... Don't throw your money away here! If you want to have a pleasurable dining experience, cross the street and go to the 'well-known' Asian Restaurant located at the Galleria. Wish we had! To sum it all up, this was at the top of our worst dining experience ever!
