“Don't do it!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

If you read this review and are even thinking about taking this ferry to Freeport, DON'T DO IT!! This boat is not made for this type of trip, yet they continue to operate it as though it is. On our trip to the Bahamas, it was windy. Of the 200 people on the boat, 75% of them were throwing up. The bathrooms can't handle the traffic - it's a nightmare. Do yourself a favor - take an airplane!!! You'll think me one day....

“Ferry trip was great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

It was a smooth ride and very relaxing! Be prepared to go to the sleep. The slight rock of the boat will rock you right to sleep!

“Waste of time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

I took the Baleria with a friend for the 1 day express trip. Upon arrival to the port we waited over an hour in a large room before we could get onto the ferry. Luckily the sea wasn't rough so we didn't get sick. The ride took about 3 hours. Once in the Bahamas there wasn't much to do. There are taxis waiting at the port to bring the visitors to a beach, which is quite small. I've seen much nicer beaches in the Bahamas... The restaurant on the beach is really over-priced for what they serve. The boat departed at 6:30 (it was late) and got into Fort Lauderdale around 9:30. Going through customs was hell!!! We waited for about 1 hour and a half while the guys at customs talked amongst themselves. They also gave prioirty to go through, so all the international travellers had to wait till all the US citizens had gone through. Considering the time and the money spent on this trip, it is not worth it!!!

“Great way to travel, just check ocean report before you book”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

We bought tickets for this Ferry on Groupon, buy one get one. "Price was right" The check-in was a bit slow. (Just pack your patience) They tell you to get there at least two hours in advance and they close the doors exactly one hour before, just like they say on your tickets. Little un- organized in the beginning but once you get past check in, everything went like a breeze. Three hours later you are docked in Freeport. They let the passangers that are staying just for the day off first, so you get a good 3 1/2 hour visit. Everyone is so friendly. We will use this form of transportation again. One suggestion, if you get sea sickness, take something for it, and check the weather before you book, we had 6 to 8 inch waves, but rocked most of us to sleep. You can relax going and on the way home, very comfortable. You won't be disappointed. Lots of fun. See you in the Bahamas...

“Interesting Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

So, if you are prone to seasickness, it is best not to go on this Express Ferry! My husband and I traveled over to Freeport for a 2 night stay and we both did fine. The boat left on time each way. Overall, the staff -on and off the boat- were helpful and friendly. The ride over was a rough one for many passengers! Many people were vomiting, but I don't believe rough seas are the fault of the Balearia. We were told on the phone that we could take our own food, which worked out great. The food selection offered on the ferry is not great! Our ride home was much calmer. Most people watched tv (shark and Great Barrier Reef documentaries), read or slept the whole way. We were a little bit ahead of schedule, but had to remain onboard for about 40 minutes and wait for customs and immigration officers, which again, I don't believe was the fault of the Balearia. We traveled with a Groupon, so the price was definitely right. I would rate this experience good for us. There should be a rating between average and very good. If you don't get seasick, it is an interesting way to get to the Bahamas.
