Although we booked directly on Starwood's webpage and got a confirmation Email on the day of our arrival our resevation was gone when we arrived. No big deal, since the hotel was not completely booked, however we almost spent 30 minutes at the front desk.

Upon arrival we realised right away that in this area there is a lot of high-rise construction going on (which you just can't see on the hotels webpage just like the four-lane road between hotel and beach...) and made sure that our room is not on the "wrong-side". So, ask for a quiet room. We did so and really heard nothing from the constructionside.

The kitchen in the room is large enough to cook for a party of four and all the necessary silver, plates etc. are available and were as clean as you would expect it.

The bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub is large and the amenities are of high quality (Gilchrist & Soames).

Cable-LAN is available in the room, some areas also offer WLAN.

The fitness-center is small but the equipment (5 cardio-machines) and weigh-lifting areas are well maintained. The pool is small but clean and rarely used so that you most-times find some space to relax.

The staff is average: some are very helpful and kind, whereas others seem to be new and less caring. Always an annoyance are the high fees for parking but that is probably something you have to stand.

The beach is clean (although not managed by the hotel) and the water-taxi-stop in a wlaking distance (10-15 minutes) so that you can easily reach Las Olas.

So, is this a four star / five star property ? Yes, it is definetly four star: the rooms are well maintained, clean and have a very nice decor of dark woods with light colored walls and carpets. The marble bathroom is large and the kitchen superd. Public areas are also nice and in a modern decor. This place definetly benefits from its -relatively- small size and that it is a little further away from Ft. Lauderdales "Las Olas-Boulevard (10-15 min by car). It is therefore quieter than the larger places in the area. Is it five star ? I don't think so since the hotel sometimes lacks the extra twist to be five star. I would say that it is between 4 and 5 star and testing -rate-wise- the limits.

Was really looking forward to our stay at the Atlantic, the web site was great, however when we arrived they had given away our room......even though I had a reservation and had called to say we would not arrive till 11:30 that evening.......they said we would now have to move during our stay......and that they had upgraded us....when in fact we were not upgraded at all.......the next day they did move us to a suite.......

The service at the hotel pool was quite slow....they ended up buying us a round of drinks........same experience at breakfast......

It is too much effort to stay at this hotel..they are always playing catch up....next time I am back in ft lauderdale i am going to try one of the new hotels that are going to open..........

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights recently using Starwood points (a good value here, as rates seem to stay north of $400 a night- a bit overpriced). We had an oceanfront Grand Deluxe room just below the Penthouse floor. Room was 4 star luxury- outfitted with high quality furnishings, kitchenette (which we used more than once), large bathroom.

The hotel is just on the cusp of the hotel cooridor of A1A, which is nice... you're walking distance from the hustle and bustle but far enough away to not have to deal with nighttime noise. The bed was disappointing, surprisingly- I expected something on the level of Westin's Heavenly Bed but it was closer to Sheraton's Sweet Sleeper. Service was very good overall, with the valets and bellman being particularly prompt and courteous.

There are 2 other Starwoods in the area... the Sheraton Yankee Clipper and Yankee Trader. Avoid both- they looked unbelievably outdated. A St. Regis and W Hotel are both going up in the same 1-mile area, so that will make 5 Starwood properties in that stretch.

FYI: almost all hotels on A1A are not beachfront. The beach is nice, but has nothing on nearby beaches like South Beach.

We booked a 2-nite stay at the Atlantic with American Express. Overall a very good experience. Altho the property is actually 3 years old, it still feels very new, and the rooms are gorgeous.

The Pluses:
- arrived at 1pm and the front desk staff checked us in early (altho it took some urging on my end)
- received the american express upgrade to a 1-br suite with a side view of the ocean. the finishings and furniture in the suite were beautiful - marble flooring in the entry foyer, huge bathroom with separate shower and tub, balcony off the living room with nice chairs and a table, very comfortable bed and sheets.
- the pool area is very nicely maintained and set on the fifth floor of the hotel with a great panoramic view of the ocean
- pool food service was quick and the food was fairly (in fact modestly) priced and good
- beach chairs available at the beach across the street through a third-party vendor (just bring your own towels from the hotel pool)
- the hostess at the hotel restaurant was super nice and the outdoor seating area with a view of the ocean was extremely pleasant. the breakfast food was excellent - especially the continental breakfast which included a massive fresh fruit plate.
- room service was very prompt and even brought a table cloth and candles when we told them we wanted to eat dinner on our balcony

The cons:
- little service items took a few calls to rectify (ice maker wasn't working, phone in LR wasn't working properly)
- no food service on the beach (since the beach area isn't actually serviced by the Atlantic).
- there is a lot of construction going on in the area, including a Trump condo going up just south of the hotel. Whereas our room had a side view all the way down the beach, once that tower goes up the view will be gone.

Stayed here in 2/07. Our room was clean, not overly large but a good size. It had a kitchen area that has more than everything you need to cook in your room. It included a small fridge, stove, pots/pans, coffee maker, utensils etc...

Beds were very comfortable. Our only complaint was the service. For the price I expect responsive, prompt service and did not receive that here. Some examples, service by the pool was extremely slow. Our ice maker in the room wasnt working so we called for someone to come fix it and nobody ever came so we had to call for ice and tip the person 3x. Other than that, the property itself is very nice. I would recommend it.
