We had a two night pre-cruise stay at the Atlantic using Starwood points October 12 and 13th and found that it lived up to it's reputation as a five star hotel in every sense of the word.
We were cheerfully greeted by the res clerk and told that as SPG gold members, we had been upgraded to a 9th floor 1BR suite overlooking the ocean. The bellman assisted us to our room - explained everything and offered his services should we require any help as well.
The room was huge and extremely opulent with a lovely contemporary decor - modern furnishings - absolutely huge bathroom with a large soaker tub/double sinks/separate w/c and the largest shower I've ever seen - must have been 6'X3'! The bathroom amenities were Gilchrist & Soames - not that I was familiar with them but my wife indicated they were very high quality which they indeed turned out to be.
Bed was comfortable - fully equipped kitchen with microwave/fridge etc and the standard Starbucks coffee. The balcony overlooked the pool area and the ocean and had a small table and two chairs. Just a wonderful view!
All the staff we encountered in our two night stay were friendly and greeted us as though we had had been there for months. We had lunch and breakfast in Trina's and the food was excellent - expensive, but what you might expect in a hotel of this calibre. The concierge and front desk staff greeted us each time we passed by and were very pleasant. We enjoyed one morning at the pool and the bar steward was extremely attentive and genuinely friendly as well. We both agreed that we could not have selected a better venue to prepare for a Caribbean cruise!
We did encounter a noise issue from the next room about 1:30 in the morning of our second night which did not subside and a call to the front desk resulted in an expedient resolution to that problem.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone and can't wait to return!

My work recently brought me to Ft. Lauderdale so I decided to stay on the beach. My experience at the hotel was smooth from check in to check out. The valet guys were attentive and the bellman Lacel from Jamaica was friendly and cordial. The way a bellman should be. Nadine checked me in right away and what a bonus. It's a Starwood hotel so I get my Starwood points too! Great!

Found the rooms to be huge and the bed was wonderful, big plushy pillows, cool sheets, etc. The in room coffee was Starbucks so I didn't need to go out for it in the morning and the mini bar was stocked with gourmet goodies.

I ate in Trina's and had the flatbread pizza. It was very good and was a "signature item". The restaurant was slow but I think I was there in the off season. It's great for people watching as it's right on the street level where you can watch everyone pass by on the boulevard.

I went for a run right along Ft. Lauderdale strip which is outside the front door. The hotel is in a great location. Minutes from downtown and Las Olas with shopping, restaurants and nightlife and to Broward where most of the corporations in Ft. Lauderdale are. It's also only minutes away from the airport.

Unlike another tripadvisor reviewer, I had no one knocking on my door so maybe that was a fluke. I had a wonderful stay and would recommend this hotel for business travelers, couples and for weekend family getaways. Also, I took a look at the spa but didn't have the time to have a treatment. It looked divine!

  • Liked — Great rooms, beds and Location
  • Disliked — Nothing I can think of

My husband and I stayed at The Atlantic for 4 days in August, and I must admit that I was a bit concerned about it prior to our arrival, mainly due to some negative feedback that I had read here. We were originally booked into the Pillars, but due to upcoming renovations, they called me and had cancelled our stay. So, I opted for The Atlantic, and boy, am I ever glad I did! We LOVED it! The hotel is beautiful, the service was awesome, and room service was great as well. If I absolutely HAD to post something negative about the hotel, my only complaints would be that parking is priced too high, and the housekeeper never replaced the soap in the shower or bathroom sink-she just left the soap we had used the day before (rather annoying, but not tragic). We hated to leave, and will definitely stay there again someday!!

First, I really liked the hotel and had a very nice stay. Howver, there were a few things that made it miss the mark for me for a really top level hotel.

When I arrived, they said they had upgraded me to an ocean view suite (hurray!) but that the room wasn't quite ready. The desk clerk said they needed housekeeping to do a "walk through" and it would be just a minute. She would come and get me when the room was ready. She walked me over to a couch in the lobby, was super attentive, and I was thinking, "wow, this is a good sign!"

I sat in the lobby and after 10 minutes, I went up and told her I was going to the bar to get a drink while I waited. The other desk clerk looks up and says, "oh, here's her keys" and hands her the package that was laying on the counter. She doesn't appologize or explain. And who knows, maybe it was just completed that very second...

I confirm that breakfast is included in the rate, that I want a late checkout, and I've just gotten off a long flight and I'm going to nap before I have to go out that evening so I don't want to be disturbed, etc. All confirmed, no problem, in your record...

And the hotel is completely dead, it's not like they are dealing with a rush. Apparently lots of people cancelled out because of a hurricane warning during the week. There is no one in the lobby and no one checked in the entire time I was waiting.

I get up to the room and 45 min later someone calls to welcome me. That's nice, but I really needed the nap. 45 min later someone is knocking on the door with drinks - again, really nice, and they look really pretty, but now I've had 20 min of sleep instead of 2 hours. Yeah, it's my fault, I should have put the do not disturb sign on the door, but I didn't, I thought telling the desk clerk would be enough.

And really, it's a lovely room, terrific view, great bathroom (except for the dim lighting, but that's everywhere), kitchen area with ICE!!!, GREAT bed, amazing linens and pillows. It all looked brand new.

Next morning, I get a call at 9AM (on a Sunday morning!) waking me up asking if I want a late checkout. Well, yes, I do -- and I wanted to sleep in! 30 minuntes later, housekeeping is knocking asking when I will be out of the room -- ok, this time the do not disturb sign is out, so that's really just sloppy.

When I do get up, I go to breakfast and have the "where's your breakfast voucher", "what voucher" discussion, and the lovely young waiter is very nice, but it takes him 10 minutes to confirm that breakfast is indeed included in my room, and yes, they forgot to give me the voucher. Really, there is only one other couple having breakfast, it's really empty. What is taking so long!? I go to the pool, do stuff, go back to the room around noon and the key doesn't work. OK, sigh, that happens. I go down to the desk, where the desk clerk asks, "oh, do you want a late checkout?"

So in all -- the room, amenities, everything was great and I had a nice stay. I'm not upset or put out in any way, and I'd go there again. But I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, and that's the difference. They could have hooked me in, and they didn't. It's too bad, too, because everyone seemed really nice, and they were trying really hard, but it just missed the boat for me.

This was our 3rd stay in this hotel since it opened a couple years ago, and it was definitely not up to the standards of our previous two visits.

Check-in used to be handled by an agent while seated in the lobby with a complimentary drink, so my family and I sat in the lobby waiting for someone to help us for 10-minutes or so until we realized this policy had obviously changed. The fabulous upgrades we had received on our previous visits as part of SPG were apparently not available, but I couldn't tell for sure as the check-in agent didn't speak alot of English and didn't seem as familiar with the room types in this hotel as we were.

This hotel used to offer a complimentary bottle of wine each night which was always a nice surprise to see what you might get. It was never an expensive bottle but was always interesting and quirky in some way, but apparently that policy has changed as well.

The extra services we requested were handled immediately and attentively, but the point is we always had to ask for everything directly. Not one person, in four days at the hotel, asked how we were doing or if we needed anything, all conversations were initiated by the guest. It was the opposite of warm and friendly.

The hotel seems to be aging quickly as well. Our room showed signs of curling wallpaper, water damage/stains in the caulk joints at tub and shower, carpet wear, and bird/insect damage to exterior stucco and paint evidenced from balconies.

We did not use the restaurant or spa services on this trip, but we've eaten at Trina's many times and everything we've ordered in the past has exceeded our expectations. It's pricey, but in-line with other touristy restaurants in Lauderdale. While the spa services were nice and reasonably priced, the amenities of the spa (gym, steam room, sauna, hot tub) available to hotel guests are always a hit with me. I hope these areas are being maintained better than the rooms.

All in all, I am disappointed that the services at this hotel seem to be dwindling while the prices seem to be going up. We've never considered staying anywhere else in Lauderdale over the last three years, but this last trip to the Atlantic has opened the door for their competition...
