I booked 3 nights in the New Zealand House as a pre-cruise stay. The rates for the stay was excellent and came in at about 60% of what I was being offered elsewhere. I was a little worried about this - it just didn't add up that the most popular place on Trip Advisor was also going to be the cheapest. However, I had nothing to worry about.

The property is off one of the main roads in FLL and there is free parking outside the property for about 8 cars. It can get a little congested there in the evenings but nothing really to worry about. I rang the doorbell and was greeted by Ric. Immediately I felt at ease and welcome. After registering in the office I was shown to my room. I stayed in the North Island room which had a view of the pool. The room was spacious and very clean. I loved the attention to detail in the room and the fact that they left little things like DVD's, Magazines, Books etc and changed them each day.

The Bathroom was a good size and was spotless - cleanliness is my number one requirement in anyplace I stay and I had nothing to worry about here.

A light breakfast is served each morning - self serve of a pre-prepared dish. There are some tables and chairs in the shaded area for you to eat at. The pool is a good size. It's not Olympic but It can easily accommodate everyone who wishes to use it.

The property is smaller than I imagined. The website appears to make the grounds look massive but it is in fact a compact site. There is beautiful shrubbery all around and it is very private. It is clothing optional and there is no chance that you care going to "scare the horses in the street" by appearing naked around the pool.

Warren was SO attentive. Each afternoon he came around to everyone and offered cocktails and drinks. And he kept coming back to refill. I was waiting for the massive cheque to arrive but it was all on the house - a lovely touch.

Regarding location - there is a Walgreens and some fast food places two blocks over but in reality if you want to see anything of the area you will need a car. This is true for just about anyplace you stay in Fort Lauderdale! I rented a car from Enterprise which is one block away from the New Zealand House. I would suggest that you call and reserve something though - I ended up taking the only thing on th plot - a pickup - which was a lot more expensive than I had hoped. A reservation would have saved a lot of money. Wilton Manors is about 8-10 minutes drive away and you can do it by taxi if you like. I tried walking on my first day - not to be advised unless you like to really work out those legs!

OK - on to the negatives... Hang on - I'm thinking...

I'll be back!

I will always check here first when in Ft Lauderdale. The room was immaculate and cleaned daily around my schedule. In room fridge/microwave, great bedding and chairs, bath facilities plus porn selection (DVD's, mags) rotated daily! Selection of free drinks by the pool brought with a smile. Secluded feeling with well placed greenery allows clothing optional relaxation. Warren was delightful, did everything he said he would, wanted to make sure I truly relaxed and enjoyed myself, and made sure I had been introduced to the other guests. Great location, plenty of assigned parking. You simply cannot go wrong here and I travel for a living so I know what matters!

This wonderful and affordable little guest house is halfway between the beach and Wilton Manors, but not at either. Thus, the owners have endeavored to add little touches that set it apart. These include, among other things, complimentary drinks (all afternoon) at the pool and gay DVDs and magazines left in the rooms (and rotated daily). Most importantly, the owners are exceedingly friendly and their friendliness tends to carry over to their guests, most of whom I found to be entirely devoid of "attitude.' I only met one of the two owners (Warren), but I really was treated almost as if I was a guest in their home. The room was nicer than at a beach guest house I stayed at previously, The WiFi connection worked well (not always the case elsewhere). There was a mix of couples and singles, and everyone seemed to feel comfortable -- with or without swimsuits. It was a bit less cruisy than some of its competitors, but I imagine that varies. If you're looking for an exceptionally nice, comfortable, and friendly experience, I couldn't recommend it more highly. I hope to return soon.

This was a grand start of a great holiday.
The hotel is very small, clean, very comfortable and the hosts are the best around. Very friendly and accommodating.
For example, as I forgot my cell phone charger, they got me their private one to use.

I was traveling solo, but immediately had contact with my fellow guests and hang out with them the whole time.
Warren does serve great cocktails late afternoon at the pool.

If you are looking for a laid back friendly comfortable, non cruisy but very sociable place to stay in FLL go to New Zealand House! I'll be back again!
