I booked 3 nights in the New Zealand House as a pre-cruise stay. The rates for the stay was excellent and came in at about 60% of what I was being offered elsewhere. I was a little worried about this - it just didn't add up that the most popular place on Trip Advisor was also going to be the cheapest. However, I had nothing to worry about.
The property is off one of the main roads in FLL and there is free parking outside the property for about 8 cars. It can get a little congested there in the evenings but nothing really to worry about. I rang the doorbell and was greeted by Ric. Immediately I felt at ease and welcome. After registering in the office I was shown to my room. I stayed in the North Island room which had a view of the pool. The room was spacious and very clean. I loved the attention to detail in the room and the fact that they left little things like DVD's, Magazines, Books etc and changed them each day.
The Bathroom was a good size and was spotless - cleanliness is my number one requirement in anyplace I stay and I had nothing to worry about here.
A light breakfast is served each morning - self serve of a pre-prepared dish. There are some tables and chairs in the shaded area for you to eat at. The pool is a good size. It's not Olympic but It can easily accommodate everyone who wishes to use it.
The property is smaller than I imagined. The website appears to make the grounds look massive but it is in fact a compact site. There is beautiful shrubbery all around and it is very private. It is clothing optional and there is no chance that you care going to "scare the horses in the street" by appearing naked around the pool.
Warren was SO attentive. Each afternoon he came around to everyone and offered cocktails and drinks. And he kept coming back to refill. I was waiting for the massive cheque to arrive but it was all on the house - a lovely touch.
Regarding location - there is a Walgreens and some fast food places two blocks over but in reality if you want to see anything of the area you will need a car. This is true for just about anyplace you stay in Fort Lauderdale! I rented a car from Enterprise which is one block away from the New Zealand House. I would suggest that you call and reserve something though - I ended up taking the only thing on th plot - a pickup - which was a lot more expensive than I had hoped. A reservation would have saved a lot of money. Wilton Manors is about 8-10 minutes drive away and you can do it by taxi if you like. I tried walking on my first day - not to be advised unless you like to really work out those legs!
OK - on to the negatives... Hang on - I'm thinking...
I'll be back!
