“Unusual setting, great food and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

I liked everything. If the weather was hotter it might be uncomfortable but I do not know. Juan the manager made my trip (he works at Royal Palms too) - great huy in both roles. One minor glitch was addressed and the staff took steps to ensure we were satisfied.

“Another great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013 via mobile

We were wondering what to do for dinner and used TA to find somewhere new to try out - the Plaza Bistro sounded intriguing!

Yes, it's set in a disused lot - but they have made it look so cool you would never guess. It's a great looking space.
Happy hour half price bottles of wine - can't be beat. We had a very nice Pinot Noir.
The food was very good - we shared the calamari appetizer (so did most of the other tables), then had a steak flatbread and chicken Parmesan. Everything was made from scratch and was delicious. Although we were stuffed, we shared a wonderful chocolate mousse. This was accompanied by a lovely tawny port.
The service was excellent - thanks to Liz and Orlando who were very welcoming and friendly.
Overall it was a great experience - we will definitely go again.

“Great food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

This felt like a little bit of Tuscany just next to FL beach. The atmosphere is great, the food was some of the best I've had in the US and the service was very good. We went again on a Friday night and it was clear the staff we're struggling with the busier pace but the food was still excellent. It's all outdoors (feels like a pop up restaurant) so I'm not sure how they'll cope if it rains.

“They did WHAT to the tennis courts?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

A short 2 block walk from Aqua (check our my 50th review!) is Plaza Bistro, part of the North Beach Village development. I'd love to tell you that the entrees are great - but we could never get past the starters and flat-breads!

Calamari ($12) - even for those who don't like calamari. Lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned and a nice surprise are the breaded pimento pepper strips that hide in the paper cone its served in. We loved this - enough to order it twice in the same visit.

Grilled Caribbean chicken skewers ($12) with a really tasty mango curry dip, just the right amount of heat - another winner.

Flat-breads - we tried, and scarfed up, the chicken rustica ($10) - grilled chicken, mozzarella cheese, bacon, sauteed red onions, think very thin crust pizza, but better, much better.
Also had the steak aioli, ($12) grilled steak with a creamy parmesan sauce, mushrooms and mozzarella. Save room for dessert...

Chocolate mousse ($10) light as a cloud, great chocolate flavour, worth the price, however...

order the Key Lime pie ($7). The correct colour (yellow, not green) velvety texture, great graham crust and the right balance between sweet and tangy, and it comes with a mango sorbet on the side, which in itself is like a cup of frozen sunshine. This one is a winner.

So, here are a three things you need to know about Plaza Bistro. Take a deeep breath. Ready?

#1 The space was a tennis court. Seriously. They painted the surface, put in some potted cedars, nice table and chairs, some LED lights, speakers, umbrellas and created a very cool, VERY inviting space that you would walk right past had you not read this review. And they pack it away every night at closing. No kidding.

#2 - and this one really took us by surprise. The food is all prepared from a food truck...And they do a heluva good job on it. We don't get food trucks here in Toronto, some archaic rule about, blah-blah-blah. But anyone living in a city that has embraced the food truck world knows some of these folks are turning out some amazing plates. These guys do. And if it's a quiet night, the chef will run plates out to your table, see how things are going.

#3 - something called 'Happy Hour"? A foreign concept in Ontario, but in Florida, everyone has a happy hour. Plaza Bistro discounts the starters, the flatbreads and ALL THE WINE by 50% between 4 and 7 pm.

We went to Plaza Bistro twice in two nights, as a couple, then with some friends we had met in town. They were staying longer than us, and would be going back again.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday they often have live music, best make a reservation. Talk to Orlando, he runs the place and has done a brilliant job with it. Well done sir.

So find this place, and tell your friends.. .on second thought, don't.
I don't want to be turned away next time I'm in Fort Lauderdale.

“Dishcrawl visits The Plaza Bistro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

I plan events with a company called Dishcrawl in the Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach area. Our most recent event in October featured 4 restaurants in the Fort Lauderdale Beach area.

The Plaza Bistro was the second stop of the night. We walked their from the Red Dog Cantina, the walk gave us time to admire the Atlantic ocean and take in the amazing ocean breeze. The Plaza Bistro is a hidden gem right off the beach that is only open for dinner. It’s truly worth finding this restaurant because they offer gourmet food under the stars in their outdoors restaurant. The space, which used to be a tennis court, is filled with white fairy lights that create a very romantic setting. General Manager, Orlando, was our waiter for the evening and Chef Justin along with his team cooked up a feast for us! We started with Thai Chicken Salad. The salad was perfectly mixed with peanuts, red cabbage and thai chicken. The second taste was their Pizza Rustica, which is made in their 750 degree pizza oven. It is topped with chicken, bacon, red onion, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. The pizza was delicious and the bacon really added a wonderful touch to the pizza. Finally, we were served Caribbean Shrimp on a bed of Cilantro Rice. The shrimp was full of flavor and the cilantro rice was a perfect accompaniment to the bold flavors of the shrimp.
The Dishcrawl guests said that this was one of their favorite restaurants of the evening and we pleasantly surprised of the quality of food that is served out of this not traditional restaurant.
