I don't ordinarily provide restaurant reviews, however, in this instance I felt compelled to share my recent experience at New River Pizza & Grill. I'm from Sydney, Australia and holidayed in the United States for the first time visiting Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. I had the opportunity to dine out daily in cafes and restaurants, some of which were high end dining venues, while others were casual and inexpensive. Without going into specifics of my various restaurant experiences, I'd rather talk about the most positive experience that I encountered at New Pizza River & Grill in Fort Lauderdale.
First and foremost, the food was incredibly tasty. My partner and I shared a mix of appetizers and entrees. For the appetizer we had the most delicious shrimp cakes and we also shared a serving of the Penne Pasta (which was really an entree serving). It was divine, sauteed with shrimp, scallops, garlic, diced asparagus, tomatoes, mushrooms, and in a cream sauce, topped with parmesan cheese. As we were given some time for the appetizers to settle down, out came the weekly special Fig, Pancetta and Blue Cheese Pizza .. wow, what an extraordinary mix of flavours!
The service was so friendly and the staff were very attentive throughout the evening. Small details like providing chilled water on our table and refreshing it regularly was a nice surprise. The restaurant had a great non-pretentious ambiance with lovely background music and dimmed lights which created a nice intimate feel. We didn't feel rushed to eat and leave (as we were made to feel in a number of other restaurants, surprisingly the high end ones).
The cost was unbelievably affordable, great food, service and overall a lovely experience. I would highly recommend New River Pizza & Grill to any visiting tourist, and to the locals, you're missing out if you haven't yet been!
